  1. Thanks Seth for the trip down memory lane!!! Its amazing to me the number of players that didn't sign, keeping most of those players would have made a big difference for the Twins!!
  2. He's not going to stick around for long if he keeps slamming into the wall like he did last night. “Durability trumps ability,” was a motto emphasized by my former boss, Bud Grant, the legendary Hall of Fame coach for the Minnesota Vikings. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1241443-in-sports-athletes-is-durability-more-important-than-ability Read thru the article about all the very talented players that had mediocre to poor carreers because of injuries. I hope Buxton's name isn't added to the list.
  3. Its a fine line on when to trade a prospect like Santana or even Polanco, do you wait until they have partially failed like Santana, which lowers their value, or do you trade them before they are proven anything like Polanco?? Thats why GM's get grey hair!!!
  4. They -- won't -- be -- moving -- him -- back -- to -- catcher. Take that to the bank.
  5. Mauer is not going anywhere, lets just hope he improves. He won't retire early either, with the Twins improving, he's going to want to stick with it and hopefully win a championship. Time for Morneau to retire, he's made enough money, no sense in living life with a scrambled brain. If there is any doubt in your mind, go read about Jim Mchahon, the former Chicago Bears QB. Dementia in his 50's.... Good for Dozier!!! The front office made the right move at the right time!!!
  6. Party time at TD!!! Glad to see Terry Ryan admit his mistake and eat the salary.
  7. Wasn't there just a 'free Vargas' post not too long ago?? He was supposed to be the savior and really hasn't produced since he came back.
  8. How long before the TD faithful start clamoring for Alex Meyer to be called up to the Twins bullpen??
  9. When Buxton, Sano, and other better hitters show up, Mauer will get moved down in the lineup. Right now Molitor doesn't have any better options. Leave Hicks down at the bottom of the order!!!!! The less pressure the better! If Santana doesn't start hitting SOON he'll get sent to AAA, Escobar will be the regular shortstop, and the uprising here at TD will be over.
  10. A surplus at any position is a good problem to have. Can you say 'trade chips'?
  11. I think some credit also needs to go to Terry Ryan, he realized the starting pitching was a big factor in the Twins swoon and went out and signed Hughes, Nolasco, and Pelfrey. Unfortunately only Hughes lived up to expectations before this year. Santana probably wouldn't have been signed if Nolasco and Pelfrey had even been average. Now it will be interesting to see what TR does with his 'excess' pitching.
  12. I'm enjoying it and making a point of listening to them every game. I couldn't say the same late last year and even early this year after a poor start and lots of negative comments about their prospects this year.
  13. Timing, timing, Boyer gets praise for his scoreless streak - and then gives up a run last night. With all the badmouthing of Boyer by TD faithful it will be interesting to read the comments...
  14. A decision on trading Plouffe or Sano doesn't need to be made until this winter. Plouffe can play there until September when Sano comes up, then they can split time at third, see how Sano really does field. In the long run, Plouffe is a nice player but you don't trade a potential stud like Sano. The more studs you have on a team, the better your chance at a championship.
  15. Milone has done what you ask anybody to do when sent to the minors, whether its Hicks, Vargas, or Milone, and thats work hard, get some good results, and force the Twins hand. Nolassco, because of his longterm contract, keeps starting until his results are putrid. I think it boils down to a choice between May and Pelfrey, if either one falters in their next start, they're the odd man out. Pelfrey to the pen or May to AAA, Milone up.
  16. Another factor is the Arcia injury. Sounds like he'll be out for awhile, throw in a rehab assignment, it could be June 15 before he is ready to return. That gives Rosario time to prove himself or fail, but it will be a good learning experience for him. Hicks gets another month to prove he's not a fluke - again. Then as others have said, there is the factor of when will Buxton be promoted to AAA? He was out for a full year, the Twins won't be rushing him, some solid playing time and solid results will benefit him. June 15 is my prediction on when we'll see a lot of shuffling of the outfielders.
  17. One month in the minors will not cure his 'head' problems. Let him work thru some slumps, let him stress out over not getting the call, let him think about how much harder he's going to work and what he will do differently when he finally does get back up. August or September or even next year is fine by me. Hunter will be gone next year, let him, Arcia, Buxton, and Rosario fight for the 3 outfield spots.
  18. The Twins know that another losing team means empty seats at Target Field, less $8 beers and $10 hotdogs sold, thats one of the reason they went out and signed Nolasco and Santana instead of playing the young starters like Myers.
  19. What a nice gig!!! Getting paid a million dollars to sit on your butt!!!
  20. Excellent read!!! This is why I come to Twins Daily!!
  21. 40 games. Thats normally the mantra and in this case it still applies (except for Pinto, he was injured and if he keeps hitting, he'll be up soon). 40 games gives the youngsters some time to build confididence, EARN A PROMOTION, and gives all the rejects on the roster an adequate shot to succeed.
  22. I never understood that about Plouffe, he played shortstop all thru the minors, THEN when he made the big time they decide he didn't have what it takes at shortstop. Then they're scrambling to get him to a different position, learning on the fly on the major league club. Why didn't that happen years before? Who was watching and coaching him?
