  1. Hopefully the Twins learned their lesson concerning the third base/Sano/Plouffe situation and resolve the 2nd base situation, either by trading Dozier or Polanco. Trade one of them while their value is high, don't wait until Polanco proves that he's not a player or they have a roster crunch and have to DFA him, sell high on him (or Dozier). Not holding my breath....
  2. Does anybody outside of the Twins really know what the plan for May is?? People are 'assuming' that the Twins are going to leave him relief just because he appeared in relief - but doesn't he have to appear in relief in order to work up to starting??
  3. Not going to bother going back to 3 pages but the impression I got was that people were complaining about him pitching in relief again.
  4. I think they brought Buxton back too soon - granted, it was because of an injury, but lets not repeat the mistake. Leave Rosario in AAA for a few more weeks to make sure the 'take good at bats and play smarter' lesson is learned. Plus it gives Grossman a few more weeks to prove whether he was a flash in the pan or a serviceable player. It was almost too good to be true to think that two other teams had released him yet he was a keeper for the Twins.
  5. What I was thinking and didn't explain very well was: People are complaining about him pitching in a relief role in Rochester, He needs to pitch some innings and build up arm strength before they can start him. Whether those starts come in Rochester or Target Field is debatable but to me the process should be like spring training, longer relief outings each time in Rochester, a couple of starts in Rochester, then bring him back up. Bitching about a relief appearance in Rochester is stupid, at this point he just needs to pitch.
  6. Nick, I like all five of your steps!! 6) I would also add trade Nolasco (to the Dodgers?) so Berrios could be brought up. 7) Trade E. Santana to open up another starting spot so some of the other minor league starters can get some innings, they need to see what they have - but only trade him if they can get good value in return, I still think Santana can provide some stable innings next year.
  7. He needs to pitch some innings and build up arm strength before they can start him.
  8. You're really setting yourself up for disappointment if the standard is TR trading 4 players!!!
  9. You're right its not an ideal situation but the person thats hot deserves to play and the cold one has earned the bench seat. A few days on the bench wouldn't hurt any one of the four -- learn by watching and have some incentive/motivation to work harder in BP and film study. And hopefully this situation only goes on until the trade deadline, when Plouffe is traded. Thats less than 6 weeks away.
  10. Good informative article Seth!!! You'd hope the coaches throughout the system would be preaching 'good at bats' and 'we're not going to promote you even if you're hitting .400 if you're striking out a lot.' Rosario got by with his free swinging with no incentive to change, until he flunked out at the highest level.
  11. You have four players - Mauer, Plouffe, Park, Sano - for three positions - DH, 3rd, 1st - it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to make it work. You'd always have a good bench bat and it wouldn't hurt any of them to get a day off every fourth day. Maybe they'd learn something by just sitting and watching, especially Sano and Park. Maybe a day or two of sitting on the bench would give them some motivation to work a little harder. Sano is coming off an injury, two days on and one day off for awhile wouldn't hurt. Make it work, its not rocket science.
  12. He's getting paid $6.5 million this year and next, this injury will give him more incentive to save and invest wisely, and if he's already been talking retirement at the end of this contract, this injury spells The End. He'll get the surgery done, do some rehab, make it sound like he's trying to rehab (and earn his money), but unless it goes really well, I don't think we'll see him on the mound at Target Field again.
  13. Arcia -- very piss poor defense and not hitting enough to beat out Kepler or Grossman. What does that say about him?????????????
  14. Rameriz has failed with two others teams, this year already, and he's more important than one of your top relief prospects??!!!!! Sign him to a AAA contract and give Chargois at least a week. Or bring up someone else.
  15. Yes you are probably right, I heard TR talking about Chargois and his poor debut, TR admitted that he was probably rushed, that he could have used more AAA experience. Speaking of Chargois, I thought it was pretty rude to send him down right away. That's how you make them into head cases. At least give him a few more appearances, let him get some bullpen experience, give him a chance to pitch when he's not so nervous, give him a chance to learn a few things. What did he learn from his one and done?? Nothing. It will just put more pressure on him the next time he's up. 'I better perform or I'll be sent back down'.
  16. Nice list, I guess I should be optimistic, but the ones that have made their debuts so far - Buxton, Berrios, Chargois, Kepler - really haven't done much. Not even looking for All-Stars, just average ML players, but right now they're just suspect prospects. When was the last time the Twins had a prospect come up and be a star?? Mauer? When was the last pitcher that came up and became a star? Perkins?? Big gap between stars. I guess it just goes to show how tough it is but its hard for me to be optimistic when even the top prospects are floundering. And the ones below them are years away. Maybe I'm just down on the Twins right now.
  17. Thanks Seth!!! Nice list and very encouraging at this discouraging Twins time.
  18. Its going to be interesting between now and the trade deadline. The problem is, how many veterans has Terry Ryan traded away in past years before the deadline?? Not very many.... Also, can you get more for a player now or closer to the deadline, when teams are desperate and the available players thin out?
  19. I've always shook my head about that!!! WTF??! What kind of reports were they getting from his time in AA and AAA?? Then try to teach him a new position while he is in the major leagues!!! A head shaker for sure!!
  20. Does anybody thats not a baseball GM really know what Plouffe is worth now or in July?? Only time will tell. I think you're overthinking it but -- you win.
  21. Its still supply and demand -- mainly demand in June/July as teams realize they could use some help at a position and they don't have any internal options, they've tried out their top minor league talent in April/May, they think they that they need to make a trade - hence more demand later in the summer. More demand means you can play one team against the other. The trade return may not be much but it will be higher than it is now. Teams also get a little more desperate, they haven't been to the playoffs in awhile or other teams in their division make a trade to improve, they get more desperate - more demand. And once a few trades get made, the supply goes down, less players available at that position. Supply and demand.
  22. Its simple supply and demand, demand will LOTS higher in July. And if one of those veterans is 'hot' and has 20 home runs they're worth a lot more than right now. Same for the pitchers.
  23. By July the demand for veteran players may be higher from teams fighting for a playoff spot. Or a team that has an injury. Plus playoff contenders are ALWAYS looking for pitching help.
  24. Good article Seth. As I drove into work this morning, hearing about another Twins loss, I was thinking "where are all the hot-shot prospects"? I guess patience is in order. It will be an interesting summer. I've said it before and I'll say it again, wins = more fans at Target Field = more $8 beers and $10 brats sold. The reason the Twins don't go all in and play all the prospects is that they would win 60 games for a year or three, and fan attendance would plummet. By keeping a few of the vets around, they can hope for a few more wins, .500 ball, and fans don't totally stay away from Target Field.
