    If Morrison is as good as advertised, meaning that he needs to play every day, it doesn't leave many at bats for Sano at DH. Hopefully his leg is strong enough to take the pounding of being on the field every day!!

    This is kind of my sentiment. Its no fun following a team that is 20 games out on Sept 1. You don't even bother to tune in. Last year it was listen in every game. I'd rather a team that has a competitive team every year - think Cardinals - hoping that you get a year when 4-5 players have career years all at once and propel you to a World Series vs having four 90 loss seasons in a row.

    I think thats exactly the problem, just puddling along the way he is, he'll still make many millions - on top of the millions that he got paid in bonus money.

    I hope Berrios handles the pressure (and more added pressure of being the opening day starter) and comes out throwing like the ace we all think and hope he's going to be. I'm concerned that hes going to get amped up and be horrible the first few starts.

    Is the glass half full or half empty?? I'll side with Nick and say half full, the two points that he made about saving wear and tear on Santana's arm and letting the prospects eat up those spring training innings AND even getting a couple starts are both positives.

    I like it. The Twins need starting pitching, this would be a good start, especially if Seth's 'quantity over quality' analysis is correct. Give up four lower level prospects, with the realization that only one of them might make the Twins roster some day?? I'd do it in a heartbeat.

    I think that they need a hard salary cap, it would put the smaller teams on an equal footing with the big teams, the high spending Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox. etc. Throw in a salary minimum to keep the players happy. It would make all teams more competitive and would reward teams that truly do a good job of evaluating talent. Win, win, win all the way around.

    Some of the players also have 'opt out' clauses that sends them out on the free agent market before the end of the contract. How about a team 'opt out' clause where they could terminate a contract when the player declines?? It would eliminate the concerns about a 'Pujols type' of deal. The pendulum has swung too far in favor of the players on the contracts, its time to reverse that trend.

    How about being paid for performance?? 4 million for ten home runs, 6 million for fifteen home runs, 8 million for twenty home runs, etc. If a player think hes worth x amount, then he shouldn't be afraid to earn it. The agents and GM's could figure out some standard that works for both parties.

    Its going to be interesting. My prediction is that one of the top free agents will tell their agent that they want to play, get me to camp, he'll sign, setting the bar for $ and years for 2018, and the rest of the agents will follow along. Or are the players colluding together, calling each other, telling each other not to panic and sign a 'lower' deal. Its going to be interesting!!!     So why not have surgery in October or November instead of waiting until two weeks before spring training??!!!!@#$$%$%@@!

    Not really, I already have a new Silverado but I know a lot of people that will never be able to get a new truck and when i hear about these millionaires whining about not getting a few extra million, I'm not sympathetic. Go ahead and go on strike, see how man 'jealous' fans really are sympathetic to millionaire players squabbling with billionaire owners.

    Let them strike!!! More time for fishing and camping this summer. Big babies. Making millions while the rest of us look at a new Chevy truck that cost $35,000+ and gulp. Big %$#^& babies!!

    I find it fascinating to watch roster construction - youth or veterans?? Homegrown talent or make trades or sign free agents?? Make a big splash now and 'go for it' or try to build for long-term sustained success? Trade your prospects before they fail or let them succeed (or fail) at the top level? Fascinating. Everybody has a different opinion but in the end it boils down to what Falvine decide to do.

    This. If they can sign him to a reasonable contract, do it, then trade one of the surplus of middle infielders for pitching. If he wants a longer term contract, pass, play Gordon, and spend the saved $$$ on pitching. Middle infield depth is a position of strength, use it wisely. I wonder how much the 'game of chicken' that's going on regarding the signing of free agents applies to Dozier?? Lots I think. If players start to panic and sign for less, it drives Dozier's price down.

    Thanks Tom!!! Great collection of quotes!!! I like the one from Buxton that he had never experienced failure before and just had to learn from it. Actually good quotes from all the young guys about the fact that its a process and that it just takes time to figure it out.

    I think the value of a good closer is also to not lose games and demoralize the team - does anybody remember Ron Davis??

    You make a good point. At what point do you decide to trade a few prospects because you know that a very low percent of them will actually help the club?? You would hope, since they're in your system, that you could do a better job of evaluating the prospects than everyone else.

    Go for it??? And gut the farm system??? No!!!!!!!! I'd rather see them build for some long term sustainable success.

    Two related notes: 1) It used to drive me crazy when someone would be injured but they'd decide to keep him on the bench for a few days hoping for a fast recovery -- then Gardy would be complaining about a short bench!!! Go get somebody from Rochester!!! 2) I'm not as optimistic as some people here on TD that the Twins will sign another starter so the bullpen depth is going to be sorely needed.
