He'll probably sign for only $5 million a year, I wonder if he'll be able to feed his family on that?? -

Article: Twins Trade Pieces Not That Valuable
Blackjack replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It will be interesting to see how Falvine clears the logjam of Gordon, Polanco, and Dozier. Personally, I hope they trade Dozier in August, move Polanco to second, and bring up Gordon. Play the young guys and see what they can do.- 57 replies

Article: Twins Close To Acquiring LHP Jaime Garcia?
Blackjack replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This keeps the clubhouse happy and the casual Twins fan happy -- hey we're trying - just not the stat happy/prospect happy TD crowd. He can't be any worse than some of the AAAA pitchers that they've started this year. -
I always made a point to listen when Johan pitched!!! You always knew that you were going to hear a good ballgame.

In my mind Gordon is absolutely on the table, if you can get the right pitching prospects back. If you don't trade Gordon then you need to trade either Polanco or Dozier. Letting Dozier walk at the end of next year or having all three on the team next year does nothing to improve your pitching, which is what the Twins really need to contend.

Article: The First Half Of The Twins Core Four
Blackjack replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Lets hope the core four can stay together and stay healthy!! It will be fun to watch them in the future!! I'm also glad that you mentioned Rosario. He has all the physical tools in the world but he just needs to clean up some of the mental mistakes.- 35 replies

Nick, nice article! It summarizes the pros and cons nicely. Two sentences stick out to me: "The fact that they're on the fringe of contention, and hardly motivated sellers, gives the Twins leverage in negotiations that didn't exist last year. If they can identify and acquire either young MLB pitchers or prospects on the brink, it's a savvy long-term strategy." "So really, if the players in this group want to make a push, they hold their destiny in their own hands." Even if they do well in the next two weeks, I don't expect Falvine to do much beyond picking up a pitcher. If the do poorly, they are in a good position to deal. I would put Kepler in the untouchable category, along with Sano. Buxton is going to be very good but I also think that he has a 50/50 chance of permanently hurting himself, I'd deal him if they have the chance.

It will be interesting to see how this management team handles these young pitchers and their call-ups, regardless if the Twins are in contention or not. When you factor in pitch limits I would guess we won't see any of them this year.

Article: How Long Is Eddie Rosario's Leash?
Blackjack replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Sooner or later Buxton will try to run thru a wall and go on the disabled list, then Granite can come up. Until then, let Rosario play, he has too much talent to give up on. Its up to Molitor and the coaches to harness that talent. Maybe he should have been pulled from the game or fined after his stupid throw??! -
I knew he was DFA'd, I was just curious to see where he ended up and whether he made in onto a major league roster.

This whole idea that the Twins are in contention and should they trade to improve or be sellers will work itself out over the next 40 days. If they are out of contention, they practically have to make some trades to improve the pitching. Trade from your positions of excess -- outfielders/Grossman; infielders/Escobar and/or Dozier. Get some pitchers that can step in next year. Hope for an injury to a second basemen on a contending team. Santana you keep unless you are overwhelmed with an offer, just because you need pitching and have no one to replace him with.

This. Every team is looking for pitching, good pitching is not going to be easy to find. Good luck Falvine!!!!! This Cleveland series just drove home the point that they need pitching!!!

Article: Twins Throw Curveball With Draft Strategy
Blackjack replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So what do the Twins do with this extra saved bonus money if some other teams drafts Enlow before 35?? How could the Twins be sure that he'd still be available at 35 or later?? -
Article: Ode To Byron Buxton
Blackjack replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'll be amazed if he can stay healthy. One major injury -- can you say Jason Kubel -- and his major strength - defense - could be gone. I hope in five years I'm eating crow and he's an all-star. -

Article: Twins Daily’s Instant Draft Reaction: WTF?
Blackjack replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Numerous posters have said that the excess can be traded later but will a shortstop prospect bring back a decent starting pitcher?? Probably not. Pitching wins ball games, the Twins need pitching. With good pitching and poor hitting you can still win games 2-1. With bad pitching you see games like last nights 14-3 blowout.- 209 replies

Article: Twins MLB Draft Preview: Kyle Wright, SP
Blackjack replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The older I get the more I realize that 'slow and steady will win a lot races'. Wright will 'hopefully' give you a reliable 2-3 starter for years. Greene could be great but he could also be a bust - the Twins need reliable starting pitching right now. I'd pick Wright. ------------------------- 30 replies

Article: Ervin Santana: To Trade Or Not To Trade?
Blackjack replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If you trade your best player when you're in first place, what does that tell your other players?? And what does it tell your fans, especially the ones that you're trying to get back to Target Field, so they'll buy more $8 beers and $10 brats?? Logically it makes sense to trade Santana -- the Twins don't have enough pitching to stay in first --- but emotionally I'd say the odds of Santana getting traded while they are in first place are slim and none. Now when July 25th rolls around and they're 6 games out, its good-by Ervin time. -
Article: What Went Wrong For Ryan Pressly?
Blackjack replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If the hypothesis is that he's not throwing the curve ball enough, yes. And I would also throw the coaches under the bus. If Parker can see this then professional baseball coaches should be able to see it!!! Plus Pressly should be told 'hey kid, you throw the ball, throw what the catcher tells you to throw, let him do the thinking for you, he has years of experience'.
