  1. Isn't that what the major league pitching coaches are paid to do?? Help their pitchers figure things out???
  2. How often do players get tested?? Are they tested multiple times per year?? Is every player on every team tested?? Are the tests scheduled or surprise tests??
  3. If Joe has a year like last year, the two big factors on whether he comes back in 2019 will be: 1) how close the Twins are to a World Series 2) wanting to stay home with his twin girls. It has to be tough saying good bye when you're heading out on a 10 game road trip. Unless the Twins are in the ALCS and just barely lose out, I think with the example set by his older brother Jake, giving up his managerial career in order to spend more time with his family, I think Joe will be done after 2018.
  4. Thanks, I needed a good chuckle with my morning coffee!!
  5. Supply and demand and smarter front offices say otherwise BUT only time will tell. If I could goto Vegas and bet on it I'd put $20 on his contract being closer to $8 million per year than $15 per year, no matter what the length is.
  6. It would be interesting to see a breakdown in revenue between ticket dollars and concession dollars. It takes butts in the seats in order to sell $8 hotdogs and $10 beers. Winning puts butts in the seats, more 'fair weather fans' that don't goto a lot of games and will splurge on more concessions.
  7. This. He'll think that he's worth $15 million a year for 4-5 years, nobody will bite, he'll end up settling for $24 million for three years -- somewhere else.
  8. As I said, he'll probably be able to feed his family on whatever he signs for.
  9. Only time will tell. The same goes for Buxton and Rosario, can they keep up the good work from last year? I'm optimistic but....
  10. With the way the whole free agency process worked out this, teams NOT handing out extravagant contracts to older free agents, I'd be a little nervous if I was Dozier. Nervous is probably not the right word, he'll make enough money to feed his family, but he's not going to get the big deal that he could have predicted two years ago after hitting a bunch of home runs. Maybe he will give the Twins a home team discount.... If not, bye bye.
  11. It would be nice to see this updated after the 2018 season, to see if the Twins really did make a mistake (or two).
  12. If Morrison is as good as advertised, meaning that he needs to play every day, it doesn't leave many at bats for Sano at DH. Hopefully his leg is strong enough to take the pounding of being on the field every day!!
  13. A picture is worth a thousand words!!! He doesn't look fat in that clip!!!
  14. I think thats exactly the problem, just puddling along the way he is, he'll still make many millions - on top of the millions that he got paid in bonus money.
  15. I hope Berrios handles the pressure (and more added pressure of being the opening day starter) and comes out throwing like the ace we all think and hope he's going to be. I'm concerned that hes going to get amped up and be horrible the first few starts.
  16. Is the glass half full or half empty?? I'll side with Nick and say half full, the two points that he made about saving wear and tear on Santana's arm and letting the prospects eat up those spring training innings AND even getting a couple starts are both positives.
  17. I like it. The Twins need starting pitching, this would be a good start, especially if Seth's 'quantity over quality' analysis is correct. Give up four lower level prospects, with the realization that only one of them might make the Twins roster some day?? I'd do it in a heartbeat.
  18. Not really, I already have a new Silverado but I know a lot of people that will never be able to get a new truck and when i hear about these millionaires whining about not getting a few extra million, I'm not sympathetic. Go ahead and go on strike, see how man 'jealous' fans really are sympathetic to millionaire players squabbling with billionaire owners.
  19. Let them strike!!! More time for fishing and camping this summer. Big babies. Making millions while the rest of us look at a new Chevy truck that cost $35,000+ and gulp. Big %$#^& babies!!
  20. I find it fascinating to watch roster construction - youth or veterans?? Homegrown talent or make trades or sign free agents?? Make a big splash now and 'go for it' or try to build for long-term sustained success? Trade your prospects before they fail or let them succeed (or fail) at the top level? Fascinating. Everybody has a different opinion but in the end it boils down to what Falvine decide to do.
  21. This. If they can sign him to a reasonable contract, do it, then trade one of the surplus of middle infielders for pitching. If he wants a longer term contract, pass, play Gordon, and spend the saved $$$ on pitching. Middle infield depth is a position of strength, use it wisely. I wonder how much the 'game of chicken' that's going on regarding the signing of free agents applies to Dozier?? Lots I think. If players start to panic and sign for less, it drives Dozier's price down.
  22. Thanks Tom!!! Great collection of quotes!!! I like the one from Buxton that he had never experienced failure before and just had to learn from it. Actually good quotes from all the young guys about the fact that its a process and that it just takes time to figure it out.
  23. I think the value of a good closer is also to not lose games and demoralize the team - does anybody remember Ron Davis??
