  1. Thats what I was also thinking as I read the article, where is the VETERAN catcher that the Twins signed to help the pitchers??
  2. I just read thru your 16-40 reviews, its amazing how many of the pitching prospects have had Tommy John surgery!!!! Do other teams have the same problem??
  3. Coulda, woulda, shoulda. In every draft, whether its baseball, football, or basketball, there are players later in the draft that outperform higher picks. Athletic ability isn't everything, motivation, education, mindset, background, etc. all play a role in how successful a player will be. How many teams passed on Trout??
  4. McKay or Wright. The Twins need reliable starting pitching, three or four good starters (with a good bullpen) will go a long way toward getting them into the playoffs. The older I get the more I realize that 'slow and steady will win a lot of races'.
  5. "Mauer: I never swing at the first watermelon." Thanks Riverbain, I needed a good chuckle to start out my day!!
  6. I was thinking along the same lines, if the Twins let him go, there would be a lot of other teams that would give him a shot, thinking that they could correct his problems. Since starting pitching is in such demand, i would demote him to Rochester and hope he figures out his problems there.
  7. I was going to stop reading some of the comments on the articles because they're such a buzzkill, they make me not even want to pay attention to the Twins -- and here I am reading them.... Bad Zoot!!!! Anybody know any good fishing or food plot forums??
  8. Not going to give you a 'like' because I don't like it, but I agree with you. Give Buxton a couple more weeks, if he doesn't show some improvement, they need to ship him back to Rochester, to gain some confidence and get his stroke back. I'd give Gibson one more start, if its as bad as the others, off to Rochester if the they think he can still make it as a starter, or else into the bullpen.
  9. Riverbain, Liked number 1!! Hope you enjoy your new TV!!! Keep up the good work!!!!!
  10. Also, Molitor needs to find spots to use Breslow and Tonkin, see what he's got. Then when the time comes - soon - to cut a pitcher, it will be obvious who should go, if one fails. And if neither one does, thats a good problem to have. Breslow is a left-handed specialist, he should be able to bring him in every other game to get out one batter. See if he can do it. If not, he's out. Same with Tonkin, find him a meaningful inning here and there, don't keep going to the same old reliables.
  11. The Twins are in a stretch of 16 straight games right now, I'll take the minority view and say they should stay at 13 pitchers until they get thru with this stretch, or at least get thru the Indians on April 20, see how the starting pitching holds up. Two or three short starts in a row, the bullpen gets overused, then they're ineffective when they're really needed -- sound familiar?? Stay with 13 for awhile.
  12. Time to give Buxton a day off (or two) to watch and learn.
  13. How do you foresee the catching being split up between Garver and Murphy?? Garver may have passed Murphy but they also need to see what they have in Murphy, in case of an injury. The 3rd basemen/Hague, is he good enough to be called up if Sano is hurt??
  14. Patience guys. I think the Twins are going with the best arms and most experienced guys right now in order to avoid another 0-9 start. That set the tone for a very bad season. The guys in AAA/AA are a quick phone call away. Patience.
  15. Show me the money. Or in the Twins case, show me the wins. Its going to take time, five years is not too long of a time frame. I hope by then that they have their system in place and that the Twins are consistently a competitive team. That's all I ask. By a competitive team I mean a .500 team that has a good chance to win every series, which will lead to competing and winning the division on a consistent basis.
  16. I think someone with Buxton's speed should bunt occasionally just to keep the fielders honest, playing in a few steps to guard against that 'occasional bunt. Another reason to bunt would be so that the player knows how to do it when they're asked to move a runner over, they're not thinking 'when was the last time I bunted' or 'how do I do this'??
  17. SI really ripped the Twins chances of even being respectable this year!!!!!
  18. My lab is like that, it chases so hard after the throwing dummy that she'll try to run thru the garden fence - and bounce off. Love her enthusiasm but last September she came back limping after trying to grab a bouncing dummy. Her leg wasn't broken but I had to not hunt her for 6 weeks, she got to sit in the kennel while I took the 9 month old pup out. I'm lucky I had a backup dog, but my productivity in the field suffered. I hope the Twins find a good backup for Buxton because its only a matter of time before he'll be called upon.
  19. Love that line!!!! Like you say, keep doing risky behavior and sooner or later its going to bite you - hard!! If I could, I'd give your post two likes!!!
  20. Recently, with a week off on surgical leave, I read a Bud Grant autobiography. One of his main points concerning his players was that durability is just as important as ability. When I read stories concerning Buxton and athletic ability vs his injury history, I think of the song by the Kinks, this verse: Superman, superman, wish I could fly like superman Superman, superman, want to be like superman I want to be like superman Superman, superman, wish I could fly like superman That is Buxton's attitude now but if he doesn't learn to play smarter he won't be much help to the Twins.
  21. Why not just put it up as an article here on TD?? Then people could also comment on it, you could see what people think, etc.
  22. More people in the stadium is a win for the Twins, there will be a few people who buy nothing but the majority of the people will buy at least one $10 beer or $9 hotdog.
