  1. This is also my concern, until he proves that he can play smarter and stay on the field, I'm going to cringe everytime he gets near the wall. Or Sano. I'd bet even money that he won't make it thru the season injury free.
  2. Thanks for the informative write-up John!!!
  3. I'm glad the Twins are overloaded with first basemen, I don't want to see him back with the Twins.
  4. If Hicks is that good, why did Seattle waive him??!
  5. I just hope Buxton can stay healthy for a full season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I'm curious to see if Arcia can turn it around.
  7. I agree with Seth, having Kepler at AAA for depth is a good thing. Posters keep predicting Rosario is going to regress, Kepler could take his place. Buxton has yet to prove that he can stay healthy and he hasn't proven he can hit major league pitching. Sano, Plouffe, or Mauer getting hurt clears room for Kepler.
  8. I agree on Plouffe and Dozier. I never did understand why Plouffe played at SS all the way up thru the minor leagues but then hits the Show and they decide he wasn't a shortstop -- What the heck??! Sano is a different story. The Twins realized the market for third basement was weak and that the team was better off with both Sano and Plouffe's bats in the lineup.
  9. This. People are reading too much into the 'no third base' comments. I think the Twins are just trying to make it easier on Sano, concentrate on right field, don't be thinking about two positions. If Plouffe was traded, how many days of practice would it take to become comfortable at third, a position he played a lot coming up thru the minor leagues???
  10. By the time they've batted a few innings, it doesn't really matter who your lead-off hitter is, he only leads off once. Put your best batters as far up the line up as possible so over the long haul so they get the most at bats. I'd go Dozier, Mauer, Sano, Plouffe, Park/Arcia, Rosario, Suzuki, Esocbar, Buxton. Do whats best for Buxton, leave him at the bottom of the order all year, let him gain the confidence of sustained success. He'll have plenty of years to bat lead off. As far as Mauer goes, even a sub-par Mauer is better than most of the other Twins hitters, until that changes, he stays at the top of the line-up.
  11. Looks like CCO is going to ride him until he's six feet under. I've listened to Sid for 40 years, starting with his sports hero show. His mind is still good but saying a sentence is -- tough. My wife said he sounded like he was talking underwater -- after I berated her for disrespect we had a good chuckle... And its really ironic, he advertises for Starky hearing aids -- and can't hear the questions!!! Yikes!!!
  12. I can read Reusse but I certainly can't listen to him....
  13. I always thought they did Hicks a disservice by batting him first too much, the pressure got to him and then he'd tank. it will be interesting to see if Molitor DOES bat Buxton ninth.
  14. Most columnists get read by writing something controversial, that's why Greinke got added.
  15. I don't agree with that, Terry Ryan likes competition at positions, thats what Murphy is, competition, with the potential to be the starter next year. If he is better than Suzuki, he'll need to earn it on the field.
  16. The fans have spoken with their declining attendance at Target Field, which translates into less $8 beers and $10 hot dogs sold. Spend some money to have a competitive team, make more money because the fans attend more games, and have more fun because your team is contending -- or lose a bunch of games. Pick your poison.
  17. In the long term, I agree with you. Coming out of spring training, unless Suzuki is horrible, he will start, with Murphy getting every sixth game, by May Murphy gets every third game, by July 1 whoever is playing better will get the majority of the starts. If Murphy gets hot, the timetable moves up.
  18. Good review Seth!!! Thanks!!! Roster seems pretty set but still a lot of question marks - Park, Danny Santana, Arcia, Nolasco, Buxton. Will be interesting to see how it finally shakes out. Most of the question marks will probably make it out of spring training but will be on a short leash, come May there will be a lot of shuffling. Good depth!!! They can absorb and injury or two without too much angst.
  19. Only time will tell. Lets see how he does this year. Why would he all of a sudden start taking steroids?? How often are players tested??? Is every player tested every year? Or is it just a random sample of players off each team?? My guess is that he was playing Russian roulette, taking steroids occasionally and finally got caught. For the Twins sake and the fact they're committed to him for three more years, I hope I'm wrong.
  20. Thats what drives me crazy, the Twins, or any other team, should be able to void a contract if they find out a player is a roid user. And make him pee in a bottle during his pre-signing physical. Santana's performance this year as a non-roid user is another question mark for 2016 and yet the Twins are obligated to pay him.
  21. We all knew when Joe signed that big long term contract that the last few years would see a decline in performance but unfortunately the concussions sped up that process. I don't see Joe retiring early, not so much because of the money, he's already made plenty, but because the team is improving and has great potential. Every player wants to win a ring and I think he'll stick around and hope to get to the World Series.
  22. Is the glass half full or is the glass half empty?? I'm going with the half full. Every team would like to have a couple #1 starters but they're pretty tough to find, how many teams in MLB can say they even have one?? By having competitive starters that keep you in the game every night you move a long ways down the road to fighting for a championship.
  23. The older I get the more I realize that slow and steady will win a lot of races. The last couple of years the Twins have upgraded their starters to the point where there is some actual competition for the final spots and a good pitcher will get sent down. Thats a heck of lot better than trotting out the Dedunos and Hendricks of the world!! Now they're in a position to see what happens with this competition and still be competitive. The Twins are slowly moving forward to be a better team and their starting pitching is competitive enough to keep them in most games and give them a chance to win. Slow and steady will win a lot of races.
  24. Barring injuries I also predict it will be Santana, Hughes, Gibson, Milone, and Nolasco. I'd like to see what Milone can do in a full, injury free season. And having a left-hander in the rotation helps everybody. Then the fight is down to Nolasco, Duffy, and Berrios with Nolasco winning because of his contract. Right or wrong thats just the way the ball bounces. It won't hurt Berrios or Duffy to go down to the minors for a few months. Half the game is mental, show some mental toughness, pull a 'Milone' and go down and be lights out, put yourself in line to be the first one called up when the inevitable injury happens. If we hit July and all seven are still pitching good, the Twins are in a good position to make a trade that will strengthen the team farther. Other teams have injuries or are suddenly in contention, starting pitching is always in demand. Its a win, win, win situation all the way around.
