  1. Yeah he's made enough money that he could afford to walk away but there is more to playing than just money. Every player wants to say they won a championship and Mauer can see the team improving by leaps and bounds, if he sticks with it he may still have a shot at a ring. He'll be here until the end of his contract. People also bitch and moan about Mauer batting high in the batting order but until the Twins acquire and/or develop more players that are overall better batters than Mauer, he won't be batting 7th anytime soon. Even a declining ex-batting champ is better than most of the players in the Twins lineup.
  2. I also caught that interview and found it interesting to hear what he had to say about Kepler - "don't count him out". It will be interesting spring training, seeing if Kepler and/or Buxton hit well enough to make the team out of spring training. I still think its 50/50 on the trading of Plouffe before spring training. What else is TR going to say? If he says 'we're going to trade Plouffe' that will lower his market value.
  3. I would like second the idea that Duffy was a big positive. With good starting pitching so hard to come by, if he can have a full season comparable to his partial season, the Twins will really have something!!
  4. I agree, they're done looking for catchers this year.
  5. So then why all the angst and agony?? Two young guys got traded, both could flop, both could become regulars, or one of each, but only Father Time knows which it will be. My take is that the Twins filled a position of need from a position where they have lots of depth -- isn't that the ideal way to get it done??
  6. Span or any other competent outfielder isn't going to sign with the Twins with Buxton only a few months away.
  7. Looks like someone started hitting the sauce early today!!!
  8. I think its a good trade. They get a catcher that can platoon with Suzuki, maybe even start and hold the position until the young catchers Turner or Garver emerge. Hicks had few bright spots, good defense but spotty hitthing, I think hes going to end up a platoon player. Murphy and Hicks both have some upside but both could end up being platooners. It will be years before a winner of the trade can be declared.
  9. Let me be the first to say you called it!!! Good work!!!
  10. MLB trade rumors has it too...
  11. You've (hopefully) added a good player by using your cash instead of trading away players, now those 'excess' players can be traded for other team needs like catcher or pitching. Sounds like a win to me. The trade deadline could be very interesting for the Twins this year!!! By then we'll know whether Hicks has truly turned the corner, we'll know whether Arcia has figured it out, we'll see if other teams have 3rd base injuries and need a replacement. Fun, fun!!
  12. I'm amazed that there aren't more comments on this article!!! There are 18 dozen ideas floating around in various posts about Twins deficiencies and possible trades but no one wants to jump in and say how the Twins compare to the Royals... Puzzling.
  13. The Twins are a year or three away, they need to let the young guys develop and THEN go out and make that big trade or free agent signing, Probably for a top of the line pitcher. Trading for Shields was huge for them!!! It showed them the grit needed to win!!! (side note, do you suppose Shields is kicking himself for signing elsewhere???!)
  14. Nice review of the players sent out west!! Thanks!! It will be really interesting to see how Turner and Garver do, since its such a big need for the Twins. It sure would be nice to see one of them emerge and be able to split time with Suzuki by July.
  15. Morneau's rudeness was just a side comment, in my original post on this topic i wondered why you'd want to sign another 1st basement when you already have a logjam at the position?? Do you suppose Mauer will sit on the bench to make room for his buddy Morneau?? Yeah right.
  16. I like your idea Mike about freeing up 1st base but I don't see it happening, it not the 'Minnesota way'. If he keeps hitting even average, with a few clutch hits, they'll keep playing him. The only way that they'll see the end of Joe before the end of his contract is for his hitting to fall below .200, start benching him more and more, and then maybe Joe would just retire. Not likely though.
  17. Nope, never talked to him, maybe you've had the luck to talk to him after he's had his morning coffee but from what I heard he was just rude. Enjoy Colorado but don't come back here please.
  18. More importantly, why are they called 'ellipsis' and not 'dots'??
  19. I heard enough of Morneau's interviews with Sid where he was very curt and rude, almost like someone had gotten him out of bed to where my attitude toward Morneau was good riddance when he left.
  20. Plouffe, Sano, Mauer -- three players for three positions - third, DH, and first. Start Sano at third and first half the time, with either Plouffe or Mauer at DH. It lets you know whether Sano CAN play in the field and gives you the luxury of waiting for a good offer for Plouffe, either at the trade deadline or after the 2016 season. Vargas and Arcia will have to hit their way onto the roster, with the nod going to Arcia since he is out of options. Having Vargas at AAA providing depth is ok, and if he hits a ton, they'll find a spot for him on the bench. Arcia is the guy that other GM's will be waiting to snap up cheap when he gets released in May -- but its up to him. If he hits, he stays, if he gets released he'll get signed by somebody else -- and sent to AAA again.
  21. So -- if i use some other notation -- like dashes, or commas -- or something else, like another sentence doesn't that accomplish the same purpose -- improving readability?? I know its not proper grammar but spacing, dashes, commas also will make it readable too.
  22. Thinking and reading about it, is there really a logjam at the corner infield spots?? You have three players - Plouffe, Sano, and Mauer for three positions. If they want Sano to play more in the field, starting in spring training play him some at first and third, DH one of the other two, put Plouffe at first now and then. It gives you a chance to see if Sano really can play a position and buys you time to get the best possible deal for Plouffe.
  23. No, for two reasons. I didn't like the arrogant attitude of Morneau the first time around and if you're going to trade Mauer, don't get another 1st basemen, clear up some space of Sano. On a side note about Morneau, with a young family and a couple of big contracts in the bank, why is he still playing after another concussion?? The ego of some of these players is really something.
  24. My wild guess is that TR will stick around three more years. I'm thinking that after four down years, and a year (2015) where they are a little ahead of schedule, that he'd want to reap a few rewards, a few playoff series, hopefully a World Series. At the end of Oct he'll be 62, three more years, franchise is in good shape, time to go enjoy life. Just my guess. As far as off season moves, I don’t expect much this year, he’ll let the young talent mature. Maybe a Plouffe trade and that’s it.
  25. After I read the first post I clicked away, thinking the same thing - but then I came back just to see how the post evolves. We will see, and I will give my opinion at the end.
