  1. How long can they keep a player down at AAA for rehab?? Why were they in such a hurry to bring Stauffer back, especailly if he wasn't pitching very well? My guess is that Stauffer won't be cut loose until he actually has a few bad outings in the ML, it'll be one of the young guys sent down (don't shoot the messenger!!!).
  2. I think some credit also needs to go to Terry Ryan, he realized the starting pitching was a big factor in the Twins swoon and went out and signed Hughes, Nolasco, and Pelfrey. Unfortunately only Hughes lived up to expectations before this year. Santana probably wouldn't have been signed if Nolasco and Pelfrey had even been average. Now it will be interesting to see what TR does with his 'excess' pitching.
  3. Not sure what your point is....
  4. It doesn't matter how the MLB team is going, I think it would take at least two outfield injuries for Buxton to be called up before Aug. 1, the Twins aren't going to rush him. The same with Sano, it would take injuries to Plouffe and Escobar to get him up before Aug. 1.
  5. Seth did a better job of answering this than I could of. I looked up the Chattanooga schedule, June 23 is their All star game, I 'assume' that would also be the half way point. Another three weeks of winning together can't hurt, fostering that 'winning culture', confidence, teamwork, etc. Baseball is as much mental as it is physical, that mental side of the game needs to be developed too.
  6. Heard Rob Anthony on the radio over the weekend and his comment about promotions was something like 'we'd like to wait until the 1st half of the season is done so they can help earn playoff berths before we promote them.' When does the half season end for Chattanooga?
  7. I'd like to see how well those stellar AAA numbers carry over to the ML. He went down to AAA, didn't sulk, just worked hard, lets see what he can do. Nice to have someone like this as a back up when an injury to a starter happens.
  8. I'm enjoying it and making a point of listening to them every game. I couldn't say the same late last year and even early this year after a poor start and lots of negative comments about their prospects this year.
  9. Tough crowd here! Guy throws in an extra letter and gets ridiculed. That will encourage him to post more!!!
  10. The key has been the starting pitching, its kept them in most games, if it continues, I think they are for real. It will be interesting to see how they react to a five game losing streak and it will be interesting to see how they play against all the teams from the East. I hope we're still having this discussion at the All-Star break. For now I'm enjoying the ride!!
  11. I forget, did the Twins win or lose this game??
  12. I think the starting pitching is the key, thats why Terry Ryan brought in Hughes, Nolassco, Pelfrey, and Santana. They don't have to be great but if they can just go 6-7 innings and keep the Twins in the game, it makes the bullpen better. And with Santana coming back in July, it could be fun!!! Also have to also give Molitor a lot of credit, the players have really responded to his calm demeanor.
  13. Timing, timing, Boyer gets praise for his scoreless streak - and then gives up a run last night. With all the badmouthing of Boyer by TD faithful it will be interesting to read the comments...
  14. A decision on trading Plouffe or Sano doesn't need to be made until this winter. Plouffe can play there until September when Sano comes up, then they can split time at third, see how Sano really does field. In the long run, Plouffe is a nice player but you don't trade a potential stud like Sano. The more studs you have on a team, the better your chance at a championship.
  15. a lot of commentary on a bad short-term decision = people thinking the world is coming to the end. Phrase it anyway you want it. Posters are making a big hooha about sending Vargas down, which in the long run won't affect the Twins season, it may actually help them, only time will tell, it won't hurt Vargas, and may actually help him.
  16. Ten pages of comments, some people seem to think the world is coming to an end because a part-time DH got sent to AAA. I get it, he's a young player, he should be playing but a month in AAA won't hurt him. Hopefully he'll mash and force the Twins hand to get him back up sooner. And hopefully he'll realize that being in the majors is more fun than riding buses in AAA and will do whatever it takes to stay up. Arcia is another player who needs that message sent to him. Put in the work to be at least average defensively and stop swinging for the fences all the time.
  17. Milone has done what you ask anybody to do when sent to the minors, whether its Hicks, Vargas, or Milone, and thats work hard, get some good results, and force the Twins hand. Nolassco, because of his longterm contract, keeps starting until his results are putrid. I think it boils down to a choice between May and Pelfrey, if either one falters in their next start, they're the odd man out. Pelfrey to the pen or May to AAA, Milone up.
  18. The world isn't coming to an end just because Vargas got sent to Rochester!!!! Let me repeat that, the world isn't coming to an end just because Vargas got sent to Rochester!!!! If he goes down and doesn't do very well, then he needs more time and experience in the minors. If he goes down and mashes the ball, he'll be back. Plain and simple. When he does get back, the experience of riding the buses again will make him work harder to stay.
  19. What do you mean, 'blanket statement'. I just stated I don't want Hunter on the team next year. We have enough young outfielders that should be ready and need playing time.
  20. Tough crowd here!! He's 3-1 and the Twins won last night - enjoy it!!!!
  21. I'm just afraid that they'll sign Hunter to another year!!!
  22. I hope Aaron does well but after his past performance I'm not holding my breath. More time in the minors to face some slumps and other adversity wouldn't have hurt him one bit.
  23. Another factor is the Arcia injury. Sounds like he'll be out for awhile, throw in a rehab assignment, it could be June 15 before he is ready to return. That gives Rosario time to prove himself or fail, but it will be a good learning experience for him. Hicks gets another month to prove he's not a fluke - again. Then as others have said, there is the factor of when will Buxton be promoted to AAA? He was out for a full year, the Twins won't be rushing him, some solid playing time and solid results will benefit him. June 15 is my prediction on when we'll see a lot of shuffling of the outfielders.
  24. One month in the minors will not cure his 'head' problems. Let him work thru some slumps, let him stress out over not getting the call, let him think about how much harder he's going to work and what he will do differently when he finally does get back up. August or September or even next year is fine by me. Hunter will be gone next year, let him, Arcia, Buxton, and Rosario fight for the 3 outfield spots.
