  1. Thanks for taking the time to write this up Seth!!!! Very encouraging after a 90 loss season!! Hopefully most of those young arms will make it to the majors!!!
  2. When the Twins get closer, meaning they've won 85 games and one more stud pitcher would put them over the hump, then make a trade -- but do it from a position of excess, third base, DH, or some other position of excess. They have Pinto, Arcia, and Vargas all needing at bats, and the first two are poor defensively, trade one of them.
  3. I didn't say Gardy doesn't matter, I said lack of talent was the problem. No manager in MLB history would be able to win with the starting pitching that he has had the last few years.
  4. The problem isn't Gardy - he's proven that he’s a capable manager - or lack of team chemistry - that will develop over time, the problem is the lack of talent. How many players on this team are above average major league players?? Hughes, Perkins, Dozier, Mauer. You're not going to win without a few superstars surrounded by at least average players. That list of first round draft picks is very revealing. They failed on a bunch of them – why? Now that the Twins are failing and getting higher picks, they’re doing better at picking but as far as I can tell, the same people are still around doing the drafting. That’s where the house cleaning should be done. What happens when the Twins get better, the picks get lower, will they still have the same luck?
  5. Anything you could get for Nolasco, right now, when he's at his lowest value, wouldn't be worth the piece of paper its written on. If they keep him they at least have the possibility of a servicable starter next year. Do you suppose after this cluncker of a year he'll come to camp ready to prove something??
  6. I think Buxton is feeling the pressure of being the number one prospect in baseball, trying a little too hard to live up to that billing. If hes going to live up to his billing he'll need to learn to play smarter and not harder, learn that hes not superman and can't run thru walls and run down every ball. Bud Grant had a saying about the same players are always hurt, wish I could find it.
  7. Good move by Terry Ryan, recognizing another teams excess - starting pitching - and possible need of an outfielder - and got it done. I'd even like to speculate that he offered up Willingham first but when Oakland said they'd rather have Fuld he said "Let me think about it a minute.... LETS DO IT!!!!!"
  8. hells yes -- in case i start felling fiesty and need some slack!!!
  9. What would a C class prospect be like?? Can you give me a comparable name from the Twins farm teams that you would consider a C prospect? Thanks!!
  10. "Houston will get the No. 2 pick next June in compensation for failing to sign Aiken." Will Houston also get another pick in the first round in line with where their record for this year??
  11. It did go on forever!!! I was at the game and it was slow, slow, slow, no excitement from the Twins, seems like Tampa had runners on all the time, it got to the point in the ninth inning where I wanted the game to end, either hit a three run homer and win it or lose, please don't tie it and send it into extra innings!!! (I was on a bus charter and we weren't leaving until the game was done) I guess a few timely hits would have changed my tune but I won't be rushing back to Target Field anytime soon. It was a beautiful day, interesting to see a game in person, see the defensive shifts, see the whole field and what players away from the ball are doing but that game definitely put a damper on my Twins enthusiasm.
  12. This. Sano is at least a year away, he'll need a few months in the minors to shake the rust off, let Plouffe keep playing, maybe he'll find his home run stroke again and become a valuable trading chip by this time next year. Side note: Plouffe came up as a shortstop, made it all the way to the majors, and THEN Twins management decided he couldn't be a ML shortstop!!! Why did it take so long?? Why wasn't he playing a different position in the minors??
  13. Maybe he learned some humility after his concussion, realizing his career could be over, but I listened to more than one interview with him in his younger days where he was really rude to the interviewer, rude to the point where if I was the interviewer I'd never have him back. I know I'll get barbecued here but count me as not a Morneau fan.
  14. How can you not agree with that?? Let him have some success and EARN his way back to the majors!!! I don't want to see him back at Target Field until May 2015!!
  15. I still wonder why they traded Fister??
  16. This deserves more than just a Like!!! Double thumbs up!!! Twins add a good player and its still bad, bad, bad!!! Enough to make you stop reading the comments - except its almost funny after awhile.
  17. I may have to try that 570 AM. How does the audio package work from MLB work?? Does it take a special radio? Or does it only work on your TV? The $20 would be worth it, but only if I can 'carry it with me' to the barbecue, garden, boat, etc. Can you pick up the local broadcast or is it a network feed?
  18. Try listening to one of the outstate affiliates in the fall, they will pre-empt the Twins for high school football, vollyball, etc. Very frustrating back a few years ago when the Twins were in contention. And try to find the Ron Gardenhire show on Sunday, most of the affiliates will have church services - maybe they're trying to tell me something!!! One time I was camping at a state park in SW MN, listening to a late Twins game, went into extra innings, and all of a sudden they break away for a commercial in the middle of an innning!!! That went on for the rest of the game, 20 after the hour and 20 to the hour, a commercial, it didn't matter if it was the middle of an innning. The next day I called the station manager to give him hell, he said he had no control, the station was unmanned that time of night, the signal for a commercial came over the network. The whole Twins radio broadcast has sucked since they left WCCO.
  19. I like that "too dumb to live" expression!! You can never have too much pitching, I say pick Kolek if he's available.
  20. It almost gets humorous after awhile, all the angst. I guess I'll trust the people that have been in the business for 25+ years. They want to win too. Herrmann went down, played hard, did well, it’s a good example for other players that get sent down. Plus in the past the Twins have been guilty of bringing players off the DL without enough games in the minors to be ready and they go 1 for 20 when they get back. Better to have Arcia prove he’s healthy AND prove he has his swing back. An extra week or three of rehab/pounding the ball in Rochester may actually help him.
  21. Good one!!! It made the time slogging thru this bitching about the 25th spot on the roster worth it!!!
  22. If the standard is winning the World Series every year there are going to be LOTS of disapointed basefall fans out there since only one team is going to win every year. I'd just like to see a competitive team, a team that has a chance at winning every series, a team that plays .500 ball. That will get you into the playoffs most years, ride a hot streak and a couple of good pitchers and who knows what might happen??
  23. Exactly!!! The Twins did what a lot of people on this board advocate all the time 'go with young players, play the players that will be here when the Twins team is good', they do it, then they get blasted anyway when it doesn't work out. It makes it hard to read thru the comments - but after awhile you learn which ones to take to heart and which ones to ignore. Twins management can't win. When they were winning division titles they were still getting blasted for not winning the World Series. Chill out and enjoy the games!!
  24. Good post, you hit the nail on the head!!!
  25. As I was reading thru this post that EXACTLY what I was noting, very few of the normal suspects have posted. Interesting. Seth, thanks for the uplifting post, it was getting discouraging reading all the other posts about how bad the Twins are going to be this year even before the season started. I followed you over here from SethSpeaks and have learned so much about the minor league players, info that I never even thought about 10 years ago. I never played baseball, I'm just a fan, I like having the Twins on the radio when I'm barbecueing or mowing or in my shop or sitting around the campfire. I try to plan my activities according to the Twins schedule so I'll be within reach of a radio. I hate when they play on the West coast, the games just get too late. Go Twins!!
