  1. A few thousand posts about trading players leads me to believe personal likes and dislikes cloud a lot of judgement here.
  2. DeDuno pitches like the theory of pitch to contact works.
  3. They should have taken the ss Simmons with their 1st round pick instead of hoping he would be there in the second
  4. Pelfrey and Duensing must read this stuff and pitched like people who did not want to be traded.
  5. Do you give up May, Meyer or Rosario plus another decent prospect to get Kennedey
  6. Other than the Cards, Yankees and Red Sox, which team hasn't had a down cycle recently?
  7. If any of the minor league players were viewed as ready they would be up. If the team thought Collabello/Parmelee was a viable short term option as rf/1b they would be entrenched there now.
  8. Change of leagues helps a pitcher initially, see Mackey excuse for Correia's April. Short term he might get you a couple of wins you might not otherwise get. Considering that the Twins need help at the front of the rotation andd not the back, these moves matter little.
  9. Redmond would have been an upgrade over Walters. The rest, meh. To miss out on one of the multitude of DFA's is not bad. Ryan tends to shop for those types in the off season. If Redmond would have been DFA in the off season there would have been a good chance Ryan would have grabbed him. If more than a couple pan out he will pay better attention to the in season guys. The talent is at about the same level as what you got it doesn't make a difference. If you have a scout who liked him, then Ryan might have grab a dfa in season. The fan on TD, I don't think Ryan pays them much attention. Except, of course, if he is feeding :shoot:Thyrlos bad information.
  10. Not defending anybody's actions here. Part of the maturation process is learning to shut up and just say "Yes, sir". You don't have to believe a single word of it, but realize you are not going to get anywhere fighting it either.
  11. Not to derail the thread but Garza's beef with the Twins was pitch selection. In the minors he relied on his fastball. He didn't like that the Twins did not want him to throw it as much as he wanted to. The irony is that is as he has progressed in the majors he uses his fastball less.
  12. Burton was a minor league contract coming back from injury.
  13. from mlb.com Former Oakland Athletics strikeout thrower Rich Harden has stopped his latest and perhaps final attempt at a comeback from injuries. The veteran right-hander who had 181 strikeouts in 148 innings during the 2008 season called Minnesota assistant general manager Rob Antony on Saturday and asked for and was granted his release from the Twins. Harden told Antony he was done throwing live batting practice sessions because of ongoing shoulder pain. The 31-year-old right-hander had been throwing BP at the Twins' complex in Fort Myers, Fla., in an attempt to pitch for the first time in the Major Leagues since Sept. 25, 2011. The Twins signed Harden, who started in three postseason series for Oakland and the Chicago Cubs, as a free agent last December. That was after shoulder surgery caused him to miss all of 2012. "He's had a lat [muscle injury], a shoulder [injury]; he's had a variety of things," Antony said in the Twins' clubhouse at Safeco Field before Sunday's series finale in Seattle. "He couldn't get healthy." Antony said retirement was a distinct possibility for Harden, who has been the disabled list 10 times in a career that began as a 21-year-old starter for Oakland in 2003. For now, Harden will take a couple of months off from throwing to reassess his comeback chances.
  14. I don't think it was anything negative with what the Twins were doing for him. Twins Release Rich Harden - Twinkie Town
  15. I thought the trade was to clear the way for Casilla and his defense was slipping. Plus there was that marvelous no hit catching prospect to take the place of Redman.
  16. Why would anyone think a career back of the rotation guy would have value at the trade deadline? Irregardless of how he pitches this year. Last year in his walk year Pittsburg had no need for him. He would have been easily available. Nobody needing pitching traded for him.
  17. Although the who sucks worse than the Astro's contest is not one you want to win, the race to the bottom will get a little more weitd once teams start packing it in. The White Sox quit first so they may win the race. It is way to early to figure the final alignment of the top 10.
  18. The pattern shown in this thread on deadline trades is why Ryan can't be agressive. The Twins did Thome a favor and got little in return. A year later Baltimore needed a bat off the bench. The Phillies did a little better than the Twins ( 2 players that have not progressed in the minors). Boston needed a reliever, Aggie was available. That the prospect did not work is irrelavent, Frankie was a decent prospect. The Twins wanted to dump salary, they trade Erickson and get little in return. When you don't have to trade your player and someone else wants them, your return will be much better.
  19. Thanks Brock for illustrating what I wanted to say with the second post on this thread but couldn't think of an example that would make sense to the people. Throw away comments are grabbed onto and held onto here as proof of whatever position a person wants to take. They will not change their view regardless of your eloquence.
  20. Lincecum and Johnson might be tendered. That would gain their maybe former team a draft pick and lose the players a team (the Twins) as a suitor. If they are not tendered tat would mean the Giants would think Lincecum's days as the Freak are over . Johnson would probably have to have another injury this year. Given the Twin's luck with injuries, I would hope that Johnson would do back to the NL. Is their anyoneone else available in their tier when they are on?
  21. I am sure some Oakland fan crowed about what a great flip Oakland made for their free agent aquisition.
  22. Most of the time itis not defending Ryan as thinking what the person has written against Ryan is microscopically myopic and twisted and thus needs a response.
  23. Context would be a wonderful thing here. Erickson was to be a free agent that winter, and pitching poorly. That the Twins were shedding payroll might also have been known. The comment would make more sense as to why he was proud of the trade if there was information like "we had no offers for him, little interest" etc. He could be proud he got something with promise for maybe a lot of work on his part.
  24. You can win an occasional battle with a larger market team, but you are not going to win the war of money.
  25. As this is a free agent thread, in the last two years only Buehrle, Wilson, Sanchez and Grienke have had ERA+ of 114. Cut the number in half if you go to 115. All clubs have problems finding a pitcher with 114 ERA+. But why have a fair criticism.
