  1. I guess you need icons so people will know when you are joking. What is obvious to you may not be to others.
  2. When you look at MLB.com's list of top 20 prospects for the Twins more than half were acquired under Ryan's tenure. There were prospects picked and acquired under Smith that failed. They are out of the system also. The acquired prospects that failed are on the GM. The failures of the draft are organizational
  3. Dozier is improving. Deduno has shown improvement over last year. One could make an argument for Florimon is improving. I wish the list from people who started some games last year for the Twins and have shown improvement this year was larger.
  4. There are people that presents opinions, there are people who show the holes in that opinion. The opinions continue to pop up unrefined. Who is unyielding?
  5. It is called learning. If he doesn't learn, he will be gone when the next wave comes. Just keep giving him at bats the rest of the season.
  6. Tampa's winning percentage against the Central teams is currently at .574 which is worse than their overall win percentage. It is only slightly better than Cleveland's .574, and much worse than Detroit's .626
  7. You still did not address what you mean by this "They do not embrace Sabrmetrics, utilize new school or inovative baseball decisions or identify and develop top of the rotation arms that can both anchor a rotation and be used as trade bait to restock the system." Without a top 5 pick what team has developed two proven top of the rotation starters in the last even 10 years?
  8. Any player on the list other than Perkins might have netted the Twins the 30th best prospect or lower in someone's system currently playing at AAA.
  9. If Ryan spends money and buys free agents that play poorly he is ripped. Your post is filled with nothing but maybes, the simple argument is maybe not. Maybe your own players take a step forward in development. Maybe Parmelee hits at a rate 90% of what he did last year in the minors. Maybe Willingham is healthy two years in a row. Maybe Diamond and Worley steps up their games. Maybe Hendricks can pitch like he did late last year against Detroit. Bottom line is the threads on free agent pitching was last month. Plenty of bickering. No proof of anything positive one way or the other except in the poster's mind. You can say Ryan does not want to overpay but look at Correia's salary history. He probably got a million a year more than he should have based on past contracts. Ryan thought he could get a pretty darn good pitcher for the money he had. They guessed really wrong on what the market for players would be. They guessed wrong on players willing to come here.
  10. You can suck with high draft picks as easily as not. Your numbers are nice but do not tell much as to not sucking. Percentages of players making it to the big leagues does not say much as to where the quality players come from..
  11. Detroit is on pace for a 94 win season. How is finishing 9 games back contending?
  12. Way to go. I wilted when it was 84 for the Twin Cities.
  13. Not spending money, isn't that what Oakland does.
  14. Get your butt back out there, you have some talent. My Pr for a 5k was 22 minutes. 10 miler in 79. I also suck now, but I am going to get a qualifing time before I am 60.
  15. Hicks was still a raw talent at 24. In another thread someone posted the Souhan article ripping the Twins for not promoting young raw talent. Hick's season so far is being observed by some as what happens when you rush a player. It is an observation on performance. Those types are as allowable as the comments on the starting pitching and performance as the team as a whole.
  16. Delmonico may be the Orioles number 4 prospect but that it not saying much. Baltimore ranks in the bottom 1/2 for prospect rankings. See Santana trade for what that means. Middle releivers are not commanding much. Except for top of rotation guys the trade deadline did not net the trading teams great prospects. Ryan would have wanted staring pitching. Did you see much movement in potential top of the rotation prospects?.
  17. Would you have been happy with a comparable package as was dealt for other relievers in return in a proposal for Perkins? You ignore that point. Not much was given up for relievers. The value of Perkins to the Twins was more than the value offered.
  18. The value of the use of the player for the remainder of their contract exceded any value the players offered would provide. Buters, Soriano, Maxwell and a couple of middle infielders were the only position players moved. The Twins had nothing comparable. You can't make a trade with no demand. The starters moved were of higher quality than the Twins had.
  19. Define potential. All players have potential. Perhaps it is a no brainer to Ryan to have not traded for what was offered. Hitters were not traded at this deadline. If you were looking for a hitter does Morneau say that to you right now? Didn't see that anyone wanted a defensive 1b either. If you are contending can you risk that Morneau would turn out worse than what you have and cost you a spot in the playoffs. Why would a non contender want morneau
  20. I need a car. There are lots of cars out there. I offer $10000 for a new Fiat. Do you think the salesman is going to be terribly aggressive in calling me back? It takes two to make a deal. He did not want to trade Perkins unless he was blown away by an offer. Veras brought a low level outfield prospect and a ptbnl, Crain for variable considerations. Thornton brought back one solid outfield prospect. Does that sound like teams were spending a lot for a reliever? Was what was being offered what the Twins need? To get Kennedy the Twins would have a problem. Duensing is doing far worse than the San Diego player, Tonkin is a better reliever in the minors, plus the equivalent of Adam Walker. You are giving up 2 potentially above average players for 2 years of a player. Would Kennedey fare well at Target field?
  21. Arietta's initial call up was in 2010 and 69 major league games ago. The baseball GM and talent evaluators in Baltimore thought so much of him they dealt him for a middle of the rotation rental player. It took another player to make the deal. A contending team dealt him in an effort to get someone better than him even for the short term. What more needs to be said of evaluating his talents.
  22. For the short term I would rather be wrong and have the upside of Arcia and Hicks than Shierholtz and DeJusus and what, if anything significant, their trade value is.
  23. He may be better than anything the Twins land. He also is no better than most of what the Twins have. Shuffling back of the rotation guys does not get you significantly any better.
  24. The Cubs and the White Sox had top of the rotation starters to trade. Now they don't
  25. Iglesias will be available over the winter, for a potential backup outfielder. What was Chicago thinking? Peavey's not worth the money?
