  1. You are still putting AAAA or less players in the pen. I think the Twins recognize this problem because they are drafting a lot more pitchers to sort through so they don't end up with this hole like they are having now. But you could probably do a blog about how the Twins will spend money on replacement level players to make the AA and AAA teams competitive for the franchises and won't spend the money slightly below average players to make the parent club competitive.
  2. I don't disagree with you (Surprise) but I don't think there were any bullpen arms in New Britain ready to be called up. Twins Fan From Afar could clarify that point. Logan Darnell starts. He should be kept in that role until proven incapable of potentially doing that at the MLB level. Next year as the Cory Williams, Cole Johnsons et al continue to develop you will have a very strong argument.
  3. If Clete gets sent back does he have to take the sombrero with him?
  4. Oakland got Reddick and 2 very low level, high ceiling prospects for Baily. It would take a better offer than that to move Perkins.
  5. I think I have read more than once that the PCL is a hitter's league. That would make Solarte's numbers look better. It is not Profar blocking him from a roster spot. Solarte couldn't beat out Garcia for the Jack of all trades role on the Rangers
  6. Upon occasion a player will perform at their potential best. The more of those occasions the more secure a roster spot. The rarer occasion is a regular TD poster publicly changing their mind..
  7. To those that think the Twins should be trading players away. Any player on the Twins is available if the price is right. The Revere and Span trades prove that. When the value of a Twins player to another team is high enough, Ryan will deal. If the player has more value to Ryan than others, he won't. Likewise, when a player becomes available, if Ryan wants to trade for that player, he has to give up something the other team wants. In the case of Borbon, the Rangers were looking for pitching and decided not to take a roster spot for what the Twins had to offer, you can look it up.
  8. The one part of audience analysis Bremer forgot to assess was does anybody really listen to what they say? They must have a low opinion of the fan if they think they need to discuss the infield fly rule even once a year
  9. and the last post in the thread.
  10. That bold showed up on your original post, I don't do that stuff. Borbon at his best year was a 1 WAR player. On average .5. There isn't a track record for Hicks to compare to. For this team Borbon playing full time versus Hicks would make a slight difference this year, but over time could be disputed. What is Hicks ceiling. Borbon's would appear to be 4th outfielder. Yes the Twins traded away 2 successful players with someone who did not start out playing at their level. Hicks isn't even playing at the level Revere and Span played at. They also had a year more of minor league experience.
  11. If you want to make the WAR argument that Borbon would have made a difference over Hicks then check out Borbon's WAR for this year. It is also negative. Projecting to full season, they would be similar. That is using WAR as you did.
  12. Although it has nothing to do with the draft, a story linked to that page was interesting. The title reminded me of a few current unnamed starting pitchers, some of whom are now in Rochester. Lessons from the linescore: Learning from the plodding pitchers, who succeed without "stuff" - SBNation.com
  13. 80 innings is a lot of innings to ask of a relief pitcher for a year. When you ask them to go more than one inning you would have to increase the time between appearances. It is abalance.
  14. Interesting concept to forfeit next year's first round draft pick. If the brass figures that a player would be a upper first round pick that they can get for 1.5 million they would be saving some money. If they claw their way to .500, their first round pick would be in the middle of the first round. It could be a good way for a team to get a better player for their draft pick.
  15. Always good to remember the guy they nicknamed "The Blade"
  16. The constructive contributors showed up. on this thread LIKE
  17. Eades had a low K rate but also a fairly low ERA. The use of aluminum bats in college makes any contact with the ball that much more of an adventure. His low ERA then would hint that although they make contact, it is not very good contact. With wood bats he might stand a better chance. Greg Maddux (a second round draft pick) had a k/9 of 6.1. I do not know if Eades will develop the nasty pitches that Maddux had. I merely want to float the idea that given the low K rate his pitches must be doing something right to avoid a high ERA
  18. Without a sound argument that it was a bad idea there is no real need to post anything that it was a good idea.
  19. Nor are the arguments against the removal from the 40 man roster. The simple fact is there is no proof out there that Joe Benson had any value anymore. More than 25 clubs said that their 15 players in the minors were more valuable than Joe Benson for free.
  20. Brandon Boggs was tossed away, Jason Lane was tossed away, Benson was merely removed from the 40 man roster. If Benson was not in their plans for next year it is not a big deal that he was removed from the 40 man roster.
  21. LOL Where is the proof that Benson can hit above AA?
  22. Please reread the original post again. The post merely stated that by an advanced statistical metric last year Butera was as valuable to his team as Suzuki was to his. Nothing about careers, only for last year.
  23. Jason Kubel round 12 in 2000, Blackburn round 29 2001,Matt Tolbert round 16 2004, Alex Brunet round 12 2005, Danny Valencia round 19 2006, All late round picks that played a little bit.
  24. I have dealt with enough of them to know.
