  1. Trading a prospect for a player is not a bad idea. The Twins have had very few prospects in the AA/AAA level that were not needed to fill a hole on the major league level that would be valuable to someone else. That may change in the next couple of years. If more than one of the arms they signed last year develops and a few of the position players continue to develop then the Twins can make a trade or two to get the established player. This off season there should be a few starters come free that may be of use near the top of the rotation. I would advocate if the Twins want one of those pitchers to trade a prospect to get one of those this season. There are examples out there like Guthrie, Francis and Maholm of free agents resigning with the team that traded for them that it does influence a player's opinion to warrant that action.
  2. Sign high priced free agents as the way to go to build the franchise. San Francisco signed large free agent contracts that did not work and the franchise won in spite of it. No it did not kill the franchise, but the point was it did not help. I have to remember to keep things simple and direct for you. Nice reply to it is only money comment.
  3. The Twins are being chastised for dumpster diving and yet San Francisco is being praised for it. The players the Giants brought in as free agents with big contracts did not pan out. In terms of additions. When you look at the additions the Giants made in taking on larger contracts for prospects they did it when they had a strong nucleus. So at the point when the Twins were even remotely near the Giants in revenue and Ryan was in charge would you say the Twins have a good nucleus to build from. From that same point what 2-4 prospects for the Twins were in AA or AAA to entice somebody to make a trade? I can see you point clearly before. I can also see your limits in your thinking which are the key points you clearly continue to miss.
  4. Bicker bicker. Is it always part of your act to attribute ideas and thoughts to someone where they don't exist?
  5. Nice list. I still see a list of large contracts that anyone other than the Chief would call a bust. A lot of players on the tail end of their career, take a chance, and overpaid.
  6. And the Twins have done all of the avenues except sign a free agent to a seven year contract that they got one good year out of.
  7. So then San Francisco signed bad large contracts and dumpster dived and that is the model that was suggested for the Twins to follow.
  8. Is that sort of like what would be if in 2007 the Twins tok Jordan or Stanton first round, Matt Harvey second, Darwin Barney third, Ben Revere in the fourth, Matt Moore in the fifth, Greg Holland in the sixth, Brandon Belt in the seventh, Josh Collmenter in the eighth.
  9. From your comment you did not consider what they are looking for is a degree of consistency. Also what you missed are reports on how Gibson has pitched.
  10. Over the last six years Renteria, Rowland and Zito were San Francisco's big signings. Everyone else came cheaply and were resigned when they performed. If the Twins sign players cheaply they are called dumpster diving.
  11. Couldn't agree with you more. Look at the 4 who signed multi year contracts. None were likely to sign with the Twins unless the offer blew the doors off the competitive bids. You described the rest.
  12. The only CF last year signed for cheap was Nyger Morgan, any other CF of note signed a $40 million or more contract. Morgan was so well thought of he is in Japan
  13. To continue a farm theme, here is an awful lot of stuff that is best used as fertilizer floating here too.
  14. The Twins are in this mess for three reasons. 1.A string of poor drafts. It happens. The talent coming might suggest there was a string of good drafts and acquisitions like what led to the 2000-2009 run. 2. Bad luck with injured pitchers. How much different would the last three years have been without injuries to Baker and Gibson, How different would have the run been if Nathan or Liriano not been injured. 3. What if Gardy could have dealt better with some players that forced trades? There is what John just said much better than I could have.
  15. At least there is a feature to block some of the names people want to call the players
  16. @ rosterman just having fun. Couldn't remember where I saw your name before so I went looking and this turned up. It can be yours for $10 on EBAY. Still couldn't figure out where I might have come across you .http://i8.ebayimg.com/03/i/03/b3/6b/12_2.JPG
  17. Statistically check out where some of the players are at versus their norm or league average for their position.
  18. I think they expected a lot better offense from Doumit, Dozier and Parmalee, and a little bit more out of Morneau, Willingham, and Plouffe. Doumit Dozier and Parmalee with 100 points more on their OPS, Morneau and Willingham about 50 points more, Plouffe about 25 points more and you would have the offense they envisioned.
  19. Roy Campenella, Gary Carter, Bill Dickey, Johnny Bench, Yogi Berra. Now they were all pretty much done by 35, but they were all still pretty good at 33.
  20. You couldn't find 10 reasons to like Twin's Daily so you came up with this?
  21. In regards to Porcello, I thought you did not like below average in terms of strikeouts above average ground ball pitchers.
  22. The Twins could use a Radke. Nothing wrong with his pitching after his rookie year until his labrum went. Try as they may, the Twins never developed another like him
  23. odds catch up on any pitcher that does not throw the ball well
  24. Is it then the hitting coach not doing a good job? As other threads want to blsme the coaching staff, how much of the poor performance is on the coaching?
