  1. My question is about math. It is about Snorg. Her ad keeps popping up buy three get 6 free. The problem is what she appears to be selling is a pair. When you buy that pair anywhere, I have been told nothing that comes with them are free. So, do you have truthful advertisers?
  2. I think Ryan would spend on position players but not pitching. Pitchers break to easily. It is not his money, but I do not think that Ryan was happy on how the money was spent on pitching last year.
  3. To define Gardy behavior as tilt is to say you cannot explain what you cannot understand nor have ever done. It makes perfect sense to me. You cannot teach when you want to scream expletives.
  4. Maybe the stress of being in first place was too great for the team and they bat as the Garry Gaetti quote said his team fielded.
  5. If your figure is 64-88% then I think from a statistics viewpoint you have no clue what the number may be. That the number of "ace" level pitchers are drafted after the first few picks would be evidence that while a team figures a pitcher might be good there are no consistent indicators to identify them. The drafting process remains random for who shall be an ace.
  6. The Rockies got the difference between Harang's and Hernandez's salary. By DFA Harang, if someone picks him up, the Rockies essentially sold Hernadez for 4.75 million. If multiple teams put in a claim then the Rockies come out with a prospect. If only one team is slightly interested then they netted themselves money. It really shouldn't take above a c--prospect to get him. The better the prospect offered, then the more of that 4.75 million should come your way.
  7. It is early. Depth yes, but above average talent? That is the question that needs to be answered and only time will tell.
  8. You don't necessarily have to be good at drafting pitchers if you can be good enough at developing talent in other areas and be good at trades. Right now you could say the Twins are not good at developing pitchers and middle infielders. That needs to change. Improving one to go along with the other areas the Twins do well in would be fine. Much of this may have to do with what randomness there is in the luck of drafting players so it cycles up and down towards a mean.
  9. In terms of college versus high school for the talented pitcher the question is which way will get me to the majors (free agency) the fastest. Slot bonuses took away the big money. A high school pitcher may go in the middle of the first and take the couple million. The draft strategy could change. In regards to Buxton and Appel, no way. In a couple of years you may see a Hicks for the next version of Appel as Buxton is major league ready.
  10. You could trade for him. You could then hope he does well enough that some contender will give you an arm and a leg for him near the trade deadline.
  11. There were times 3/5 of their starting rotation was drafted by the team.
  12. The "if fallacy" mentioned is not an if when the number of cable subscribers are dropping. The reasons for dropping are varied. The world changes. You and the people around you might not change, but the rest of the world does.
  13. How long could Swarzak be sent to Rochester on a rehab assignment?
  14. The Florimon flip
  15. With image transmission changing (tv) it will be interesting to see how the contracts change. When the cable companies can no longer make subscribers pay for stations they do not want, will these teams make as much money on their broadcast rights. As Brock pointed out the younger generation is changing how they watch entertainment. The free broadcasts for baseball that Mike wants appear to be long gone. Football would be a whole different conversation and worthy of it's own separate blog.
  16. The dome was not sold out when they were winning, so it was not simply the winning that drew the fans to Target field.
  17. Escobar and Dozier, piranhas reborn
  18. Span and Revere would not be elite when it comes to OBP. There has to be someone on base to get an RBI
  19. It depends on if you count money to starting pitchers in the minor leagues relearning how to pitch again once they are healthy. The other way to put it would be the total for contracts on the major league roster versus total for all major league contracts. Semantics on how you want to make things look.
  20. from the story a Mauer quote "Whether I'm hitting third or second, I don't know. I don't have the answer right now. I don't need to figure it out." That does not hint at "I am for it" As fpr a Carew/Mauer comparison. Carew was a singles hitter. Mauer has shown more power and more patience in drawing more walks. Not at all the same kind of hitter.
  21. You troll? To accuse you of that would be absurd. I missed something that is probably not worth looking up.
  22. 2002 Orioles went 20-9 in spring training and went 67-95 for the season. 1999 KC team went 22-9 and finished the season 64-97. 87 Twins went 21-10 So yes and no that spring training matters. a good record could mean your second line players are playing well trying to get a job.
  23. Sweeney's numbers are better than Ramirez, but not so much that it becomes must have. One of the experts will have to say if it is better to have a lefty of the bench for the light hitters on the Twins or not. Blackey had a great half year last year.
  24. When they are not in college they play summer league games. 80 college games plus exhibition games against d2 schools during the week that do not count, 44 summer league games plus their post season. The college season starts earlier than the pro season does. The time spent playing baseball is about the same.
  25. You can do the research to further your claims about Butera. You are the one claiming he doesn't belong on a major league roster. If you want to claim Hermann would be better at playing 40 games a year than Butera than it is on you to provide other than being better at batting that Hermann would be a better catcher. My responses are not so much as support for Butera as it is the notion that Hermann is anywhere near ready is not a good idea.
