  1. Lincecum remains a high strikeout pitcher. Something has happened that his HR rate is up as well as his ERA over the last two years. One year would be an anomaly. Two years is a disturbing trend.
  2. Are your numbers career or this year for Hughes and Lincecum?
  3. So was Dougie Baseball just supposed to be sitting in the dugout? The video posted did not show the instigating of the brawl or how he ended up on the bottom. The response to someone physically going after you should be what? Your conclusions are based on what?
  4. No, that way when someone wants to dismiss your opinion they can just say" Yeah but you were the one who wanted to get rid if Dozier" rather than come up with a rebuttal.
  5. Just a question for the stats guys. How can a team be 30 games over .500 when a team that is playing .500 ball is 15 games back in the standings.
  6. Blackburn was never the same after the first injury. He did not throw his slider as much, his sinker didn't move as much.
  7. Think the Twins could find a shortstop of the future that way. They have stashed a position player on their roster as a luxury before.
  8. As flyers maybe. The cost should be minimal for either of them, like a below top 40 prospect or someone in the minors who didn't make it here in the majors. Given your recommendations for pitchers, I would say they would fit in nicely at the Fort Meyers rehab center. Given the number of pitchers there, I think I discovered who the scout was that wanted these pitchers. Nice job there Levi.
  9. By UZR, last year Span and Revere were a combined 22+ .This year CF/RF is a negative UZR, with Hicks rating a very negative score. Middle infield is up, but not enough to offset the outfield's score. That is why by the numbers the Twins have a worse defense this year.
  10. Great idea but a year too late on Smoak
  11. did not look at the numbers so this is just a blind stab. If there is not much separating the middle of the pack then rankings shifts could be dramatic to one another regardless of the change in the Twin's numbers. If the numbers are not much different and they are in the middle of the pack improvements on other teams would drop the Twins down. Try looking at the actual difference in the numbers for the teams rather than the rankings.
  12. Then again they could come up and pitch to their maximum potential as they might be up long enough to get the paycheck and see the difference in pay. Rather than the pittance of minor league pay they will see their major league salary and be inspired. Making the most money is the reason people do things I have been told. Then they will get the 15th pick
  13. Is Deduno's arm is dead? How close is Gibson's pitch limit? Is Albers is a mirage? All too soon it will be live auditions for next year's starting rotation as the various members of the Rochester Red Wings staff will get another chance to prove that is where they belong.
  14. meant to say trade for batter, sorry bout that
  15. Maybe some other GM will think Deduno is the next Jake Westbrook and the Twins can get a Corey Kluber type prospect in return
  16. I get that concept of sunk cost. So far in this trading period only 2 position players were traded for. The return was a utility player and a low level prospect. The prospect does not show up on any lists of prospects within the Yankee system that I could find. A place called the scouting book had him as the 748 best prospect. The return on trades for position players does not bode well for return of prospects to the Twins if Morneau is traded. So then there would be return on investment.
  17. The lottery ticket you would receive would be a ticket for the daily 3. You beat the odd but won very little. And you paid a few million for the ticket.
  18. Bobbie V provided anecdotal evidence you can screw a team up. He only managed one year in Boston. They add talent and Farrell looks good. Notice that he did not make a Toronto team better. Manual has a lot of talent from the contending years playing for other teams. That the team is in such a decline that they are giving extended tryouts to jettisoned players like Young should be an indication of the dropoff of talent with the Phillies. Not to mention pitching injuries and old age. Cleaveland is dramatically improved, look at the talent they added or were lucky to find. Masterson stepped up. Is that the manager or the pitching coach.
  19. Kershaw benefited from the injury to Brad Penny and Greg Maddux having nothing left. I would guess that Kershaw was consistent in his pitches and showed a brain to go with the arm. Without looking it up, he was a better option than anything the had at AAA.
  20. Details emerge on Edwin Jackson?s contract - Nationals Journal - The Washington Post Jackson turned down better offers. Also any player that signs an extension without testing the free agent market. When Schwartz over at fangraphs computes dollar values for WAR he does not include contract extentions while able to be a free agent after the original was done. because he believes that they are under market value. Ergo, somebody signed for less than they would get elsewhere. King Felix would surely do better than 7/175 given what Greinke was paid.
  21. Combative statement. -Brock
  22. 35 million for Albert
  23. Point was players sign elsewhere for less money because of other factors and desires. How does Pujols not hold water on that one?
  24. I think I mentioned that leadership of the Cubs and the Twins turned over at about the same time. That happened to be about two years ago. So it is not inconsistent to compare only the two of them. You might have missed the lovefest going on for how the Cubs do business and the hatefest for Ryan. That it is why it is brought up. Is it fair to judge a GM over a past 2 season record? Read all the Ryan comments and ask yourself are people judging Ryan on the basis of the last 2 years work? That is how long he has been back on the job. Did you happen to read the Pujhols article yet?
  25. It would appear that only two GMs were being compared. The Gm for the Cubs and the GM for the Twins. Epstien took over the Cubs about the same time Ryan came back for the Twins. There are numerous posts on how great all the moves the Cubs have made. All the great free agent signings. In the end for the short term the Cubs are no better off. W/L is a reflection of the talent accumulated gy the GM. Wins are a team statistic. Adding future talent a criteria? According to Mayo's ranking the Cubs have added 4 top 100, the Twins 3 in the current GM tenure. According to Sickels the Twins farm system was 8, Cubs 11. So how do you want to compare and contrast the work by the FO of each club?
