  1. Thank you. Saved me time. The idea of signing Desmond, an inferior shortstop, to help the defense suggests a lack of research is difficult to understand. Other than hitting and fielding Desmond may have something over the younger and better Escobar, but I'm not aware of what that might be. What is it about Eduardo that people don't like? Many teams would jump at the chance to improve their SS position by adding EE to their team. I really hope they don't get the chance to celebrate such an event.
  2. If Rosario is in left field with a .705 OPS he will be one of the weakest hitting corner outfielders in Major League Baseball. Not sure you're wrong. Steamer projects the same thing, though he always thinks everybody not named Trout will have a down year. I expect the Twins to give Arcia every possible chance to force his way into the lineup (at least against RH pitchers). Even Steamer projects his OPS at >.770. Nice article. Lots to argue about here.
  3. Excellent recap of the most likely negotiation points. Thank you
  4. He's being compared to Willie Mays and Bo Jackson, and being projected as a CORNER outfielder? Who wrote that scouting report? His agent? Something smells fishy here.
  5. Methinks they are undeserving of a nickname. The only time I have ever cheered for the White Sox is when they were playing the Yankees. That is only because I would not cheer for the Yankees even if they were playing Al Qaeda. (he's no hitter! you can strike him out, Achmahd!)
  6. Alas, 6 pages in, 113 posts. Hit a nerve? The part of the article that I found to be exactly as I believe was this: but they continue to flesh out that roster with the wrong kinds of complementary pieces and low-ceiling, medium-floor veterans I think TR is too focussed on looking at what their floor might be rather than their ceiling. I also think this will likely keep the Twins from ever winning a World Series with TR as the GM. I remember how frustrating it was to watch TR sign Nolasco to a 4 year deal while weeks later a pitcher named Kazmir had to sign for fewer years and less money. I suppose TR felt Nolasco had a higher floor, that if everthing went poorly Kazmir would not pitch at all (Kazmir has had injuries in his past, though he had just finished half of an excellent year) and Nolasco would pitch, and maybe not too terribly. You can tell me I'm wrong, but there is a lot of evidence to support this suspicion.
  7. Justin Morneau suffered a concussion in 2010 while he was sporting a .345/.437/.618 (1.055) slash line. This was half way through the season. Justin had to withdraw from his position on the All-Star game roster. Justin then had 3 ‘down’ years (for him). The next year he won the NL batting title. In 2013 Joe Mauer caught 75 games before suffering a concussion. He will never catch a Major League Baseball game again. He has had 2 ‘down’ years (for him) since then. I, for one, am not inclined to close the door on this man until nearly all avenues have been exhausted. If he should have a few more days off, so be it. If he appears to be holding the team back, adjustments should be made. I believe it is too soon to write off the one greatest hitting catchers in the history of the game.
  8. Well, when you put it that way... The Starting rotation looks better (Duffey & Berrios) The Bullpen should be better (could it really be worse?) The catching should improve, at least offensively Infield change we know of is Park for Santana = probably better, potentially by a orders of magnitude Outfield is absolutely better offensively and probably defensively Hmmm... Damn SwainZag. Now I have to think.
  9. I sure hope you are right. Some of these guys coming through would make a huge difference. It would be nice once again to have a bullpen that was considered 'lights out'. And with these young men, it could be that way for a few seasons.
  10. Kang hit 4 home runs in 2015 from April through June. (with a .262 BA) He hit 11 more the rest of the season. (with a .307 BA) He said that he was being patient and trying to learn MLB pitching before he got too aggressive. I hope very much that Park takes the same approach that Kang did. I hope even more that he gets similar results. In Korea, Kang was good. Park was better.
  11. I appreciate optimism. It's more fun. Responding to Part 1: I don't really believe that any MN Twin position player had a career year. There is upside available with all of them. Plouffe established himself as an above average 3B. According to FanGraphs he was worth $20 million last year. I actually expect him to hit a little better in 2016 than he did in 2015. His BABIP was .284. No luck played into his season at all. The insistance that Sano is going to be an unusually poor fielder I believe is a little overstated. He won't be an All-Star OF in his first season out there, but you can't have a man his age acting as simply a DH. He's too athletic to sit on the bench. You could put him at 3B, but he'd be replacing an above average 3B in Plouffe. All in all I am not sure we have a post-season bound team. But we might.
  12. I agree with Brock. As he pitched 81 innings in 2014 he is probably in no shape to pitch 200+ innings in 2015. Starting him in the pen until he gets stronger and then seeing where we are at sounds interesting. Gotta believe we aren't the only fanbase thinking along these lines. Or maybe spycake is just really unique.
  13. If Arcia returns to his pre-2015 self we will want him in the lineup every time the other team has a RH pitcher on the mound. Moving Plouffe to the outfield instead of Sano is not going to happen. As has been stated elsewhere, (by Seth, IIRC) Sano is faster than Plouffe and very athletic. I doubt very much that he, at this point, is as good a 3B as Plouffe. Makes no sense. The Twins have a lot of young, inexpensive players. They could go out, pay for and get a proven, effective LH for the bullpen before all the good ones are gone. (are they all gone already?)
  14. Mauer is the best 1B of the three, Plouffe is the best 3B of the three. Sano is no going to magically injure himself because he's not playing 3B. And hiding that cannon of an arm he has at 1B would be a waste of an asset.
  15. I've always kinda been an NL slut fan. I switch teams every so often. I admire the Cardinals history and they seem to have knowledgeable fans. I like the Pirates primarily because watching Andrew McCutchen is fun. Definitely one of my favorite players.
  16. Probably true, though we can't know for sure. What we DO for sure know is that video of the pitchers and picking apart their 'tells' and weaknesses is better, absolutely.
  17. I believe that an opt-out to a contract, especially to pitchers, is a foolish move. If you are willing to make a long term commitment then the player needs to do the same. I'm all for players getting a share of the pie, but I always think poorly of GMs who sign those sorts of contracts.
  18. I agree. How many of us could win a foot race with an NFL linebacker? That's what Sano is built like.
  19. Yes, that, and they are $350 per ticket.
  20. If we are honest about our favorite team, there is no position that couldn't be upgraded. So far, there is no position that has seen a significant upgrade. I like the long shot bet on Park. Could pay off well. But make no mistake. Terry Ryan will never take you to the World Series unless most of his long shots hit and everything falls into place. He really isn't all that committed to it. He knows far more about baseball than I ever will, but that doesn't mean he's willing to do what needs to be done to put a complete team on the field. And I expect my first reprimand in 5, 4, 3, 2.......
  21. Somehow I find it unlikely that TR will take on an additional $40+ million to gamble that his would work for the Twins. Lots of good information. Fun to think about.
  22. Watching Cesar Tovar play was truly a treat. Made me smile to remember him back then. I especially loved the game in which he played all 9 postiions.
  23. It would certainly be a better signing than any of last year's relief signings. I respectively disagree. He had an OPS+ of 81 last year. He will be 39 years old when the season starts in 2016. If true, this is just TR trying to catch a single good year from a guy who is probably done. Long shots are not the moves that a GM who is truly committed to winning makes.
  24. Benson over Nunez is crazy talk. The guy is an excellent hitting utility IF. And I lot the idea of batting Sano third. If Buck is in the lineup (and can hit and walk) Mauer has to move down.
