  1. It is far more likely that we could get our 'catcher of the future' with Dozier than it is that we get some MLB ready top of the rotation pitcher. Those guys are difficult to pry away from their teams. Given the poor FA class we will probably see Gonsalves, May, Mejia and others thrown into the mix to truly see what we have. Then a trade next season and a FA signing next off-season. Of course, we would have to have a manager who was playing for the future. I don't believe I've seen one of those in a Twins uniform since Tom Kelly.
  2. A higher number is a better PAIP (or RF, as it used to be called in the old days, like this morning)
  3. I appreciate the desire for a strong, consistent presence at SS. I also believe that our dire needs at SP and catching are so huge that we can expect Polanco and Escobar to provide reasonably good defense and an actual threat, of sorts, at the plate that SS will not be anywhere near Falvey's initial focus. Escobar and Polanco. They will be above adequate, which is more than can be said for our current SP & catching positions.
  4. I understand bringing some pitchers along slowly if that is what's best for them. However, based on the SO/9 and WHIPs that Gonsalves and Romero are posting I would really like to see each of them pushed up a level to start 2017. Gonsalves to AAA, Romero to AA. See what they can do.
  5. In 2006 the Dodgers drafted a kid out of High School named Clayton Kershaw. He spent 220 innings in the minors before throwing 107 innings in MLB for the Dodgers in 2008. Strasburg was drafted in 2009. In 2012 he threw 159 innings in MLB. They are not all Kershaws or Strasburgs, of course. But neither are they all Kohl Stewarts. If Green has the right work ethic and talent, draft the kid.
  6. Thank you enge0280. I like it that you are putting yourself out there. I realize my comments below aren't all in reference to your post, but to some of the follow-up posts. I feel that a lot of people here have forgotten their Voltaire. "The perfect is the enemy of the good". I'm a little cool to the idea of Castro, as his hitting has never been very good (except in his 2013 All-Star year). I have noticed, however, that he rates very high in pitch framing, and that could be huge. Maybe this was the best year Robbie Grossman will ever have, but I would hate to see us let him and his slash line go just because he isn't an All-Star. He had the 3rd best OPS on the team behind Dozier & Vargas. Santiago delivered some good performances. To non-tender him sounds ridiculous. If you really want to get rid of him, trade him. The guy is going to be in MLB for a while. Eduardo Escobar is a year away from a pretty good year at SS. Between him and Polanco I do not feel SS is nearly as big a need as catcher or pitching. We are not going to trade Mauer. Who would take that salary with the diminishing returns? Fun stuff...
  7. We would have needed the incredibly timely hitting the Twins enjoyed last year to go along with the pitching from last year. And how do you lose a third of your games in which you score 7 runs? Perhaps bluechipper is on to something....
  8. That's a big number!
  9. Schwartz is intriguing until you remember... It is even harder to land an excellent, young, controllable pitcher than it is to land a catcher like that. Also, at this point you really don't know how a catcher is going to develop. It is true for pitchers too, but you cannot teach a pitcher to throw faster. If they have the skills then their floor still looks pretty good.
  10. Or the the Generals! (for those who don't remember when the Harlem globetrotters were big, the Washington Generals lost all but 6 games of over 13,000 games played)

  12. I like Kepler, but I have to agree. It is a little early to believe that Kepler is a cornerstone. Polanco has hit at every level. His future looks very promising. And Vargas has a .392 OBP in 108 AB. This guy should be getting playing time to see if he can keep his production up to anywhere near what it has been. Sano, Buxton, Berrios. Next level, Polanco, Vargas, Shaggy and ... I would put in a couple more younger pitchers, but I cannot say I know enough about them. Gonslaves, May, Mejia?
  13. I believe that the fact that Logan Schafer has played in 12 games from Aug. 29 through Sept. 11 suggests that the future is not what Molitor is looking at. Why would the infield be different?
  14. Interesting idea. The Twins could certainly hire someone who said that they wanted to 'get a feel' for the whole organization. This would give them time to assess every aspect of the team. If he or she decided, after one year, to dump Molitor and almost everyone else they could say why. It would make things look purposeful, careful and thought-out rather than someone coming in, firing everyone and trading Berrios for, oh, I don't know, Nolasco? I don't need something by April, but I want someone who will move this team forward in a big way, and fast. I want post season play in 2018.
  15. I’d really like to see Baxendale, Garver, Reed and Vargas. I suppose we can see if they will let Buxton swing in MLB like he does in AAA. They probably have to ‘fix’ something though, so it could just be a bunch of strikeouts again. It would also be fun to see Wheeler and Palka.
  16. Albers and Dean can also come off the 40-man without damaging the Twins' future. Lots of room.
  17. Hopefully they see what he has before the 'fix' a 'flaw' in his mechanics.
  18. I'm typically a pretty patient person, but I just cannot say enough bad things about the way Polanco has been handled. The handling of Polanco, Kepler and Meyer, along with losing Hicks (the catcher who is OPSing over .800 in AAA MiLB) was largely why I felt TR had to go and (other than the John Hicks event) part of why I think Molitor is clearly a poor coach. Does anybody in Twins management look out to the future even as far as next year? If so, there is little evidence.
  19. An amazing accomplishment. Almost certainly more hits at a professional level than anyone else who ever lived. Icharo may be the first player ever to be elected into the Hall of Fame unanimously. And how very American that would be.
  20. Other GMs are almost certainly testing Antony. I suspect he is getting low level offers while these other GMs test him to see if he'll be easy to steal from. I'm not a fan of inactivity, but I would rather he make wise moves than rash ones.
  21. With absolutely no evidence to support it, I am going to pretend that the MLB club has some influence on their farm teams. This would suggest that all have agreed that Polanco is not a SS and we should stop pretending that he is. Now, if we believe that he is not good enough to play SS in AAA but is good enough at the MLB level then our new GM has a great deal of work to do.
  22. Awesome! Perhaps you'd be kind enough to adopt Byron Buxton next. Please?
  23. I was with you until the last paragraph. Would you have simply hired someone immediately? Antony knows the game. He will not ruin his future in MLB by making foolish changes and trades. I think having Antony take the reins for a couple of months while they try to find the best possible candidate is the smart business move and the smart baseball move.
