    I don’t understand all the concern with having left handed hitting corner outfielders. As I look at their starting lineup I see four starters who bat left, Arraez, Gallo, Larnach or AK in left, Keps in right and one of the three guys battling for left as DH. There are also four who are right handed, the catchers, Farmer at short, Miranda and Buxton. Polo is switch, so the lineup is perfectly balanced. So I don’t understand why everyone has a burr under their saddles about the corner guys swinging from the left side.

    Gotta disagree with several of you regarding Duran's future. I want him to stay in the bullpen with continued use like last season, ie, close some games but come in to put out the fire in earlier innings before the game gets out of hand. Got a question for everyone thinking he should start. With the assumption the Twins can have a #1 starter who will win at least half his starts, what do you gain by replacing him with Duran? With 25-30 starts each year, maybe 3 more wins? 4 or 5? What do you gain by his having an impact in the results of 60 games? I maintain it's a hell of a lot more than another 4 or 5 wins. Considering that they currently have, and should continue to have in the future, a solid starting staff, I believe he is much more valuable to the team in his current role. Also take exception with the one comment above suggesting Rodrguez may be years away. Every year or two some young stud hits MLB at 20 years of age. Guys like Acuna several years ago. Wasn't that kid from Seattle 20 last year? Assuming good health, I believe there is a chance Rodrguez plays for the Twins in 2023, hopefully, in the playoffs.

    Great series, Nick. Agree with these rankings, including Ober. Have a feeling that when you do this next year Rodriguez will be #1.

    Love what SWR has done this past year and remain excited about what Prielipp can be. Looking at their ceilings, Nick, would you say Radke/Berríos for SWR and Sale for Prielipp are good comps? Understand the dearth of catching in the organization and believe they have to find one young AA guy before spring training. For that reason I understand your having Jeffers this high. But My stomach turns every time I read about how good his defense is. It isn’t. He is good at taking advantage of bad umpiring (LaTroy Hawkins comment, not mine). At everything else he is bad. Way too many balls get past him and he is terrible throwing guys out. Wasn’t it 20 some steals before he threw anyone out last year? And I recall that his first out was safe, until tagged out on an over slide.

    Question, Parker? I often read that player X made Y adjustments over the winter and reports to Spring Training as a better player. My question, why aren’t the large group of coaches each team has finding these adjustments to make the player better?

    I do not believe that Buxton is as fragile as many say. A good share of his injuries have been normal baseball related injuries. How many times has he been on the IL after being hit in the hand/wrist with a 90+ mph fastball? I don't recall the exact number, but believe it is several. Running into a fence at full speed will destroy anyone's body, especially hitting some fences which aren't properly padded at his speed. Yes, some of his injuries have been nagging injuries you would think/hope a professional athlete could avoid. But most were either normal baseball injuries or due to his playing 100% on every play. As for 2023, if Byron plays 130+ games with most being in center field the Twins will win. They will be in the playoffs.

    Always enjoy this exercise, Nick, thanks. Understand your injury concerns, but I believe Mahle and Maeda are both going to be healthy and strong members of next year’s rotation. Where I may differ is I believe this FO doesn’t plan on any big moves. Maybe a reliever, but this team may be the one they go to war with.

    Fun article, thanks. I would be more specific: Royce works to stay ahead of schedule with his rehab and joins the Twins by June 15, following a two week rehab stint in Fort Myers. He resolves that by September Twins fans will have forgotten about Carlos, whatever his name is. Brooks will continue his upward march and resolves to join the Twins by late August. Where he plays will be a problem for Rocco to deal with. Emmanuel believes the Twins can have their version of Atlanta's Acuna who made the big club as a 20 year old. He resolves to play like Acuna, earning a callup on August 31 so he is available for the playoffs. Connor Prielipp looked in a mirror this morning and saw Chris Sale. He thought: if Chris Sale could make the White Sox late in the year following being drafted, why can't I make the Twins? He resolves to do so and backs it up on the mound with his first big league start the last day of the season. SWR woke up this morning thinking about the one start he made for the Twins at year's end. He decides there is no way he wants to pitch another inning in the minors and come spring training, resolves to make that happen. And I will add a sixth. Louie Varland woke up today and read this post and thought, hey, what about me? With a bit of a chip growing on his shoulder, he resolves to do whatever SWR does and makes the Twins opening day roster and the rest is history. And should the good Lord choose to allow me another year on this ball of mud, I resolve to enjoy every minute of the Twins 2023 season.

    I understand that his defense has been a question for some. Haven't seen enough to know whether his routes are average, or not. I do know that he has a very good arm, which should make him at least average in left field. If healthy, believe in this kid. Hopefully, those concerns are behind him.

    I don't expect Correa to be worth his annual salary six or seven years from now, regardless of whether this injury becomes a problem. And that is around the time that Lewis, AK, Larnach, Lee, Varland, SWR, Duran and others are going to need to be extended. Well, a couple actually should be extended sooner. So the problem I see in bringing him back is the nearly $30M he will be paid in 2028-2029-2030-2031 and 2032...assuming it is a 10-year deal. The Twins are a mid-market team with a rational business plan. Because of how his contract will affect the longer term future, I will continue to believe they should take a pass on bringing him back.

    Expect our ranking is much different had Buxton been healthy. Even when on the field, he wasn't running in fear of further injury. Damn, it would be nice to have that young man healthy and playing like we know he can.

    I am happy for him now that he gets to play with his brother. The contract is another example of how ridiculous things are getting. Interesting that after reading this I have hope that the Twins may get a big year from Pagan. Wouldn’t that be something?

    Agree with above comments that I see Jeffers playing 50 games and would not be in my top three. Getting Lopez back to the pitcher he was in Baltimore would be huge when teamed with Duran at the end of games. Also can agree with Miranda, who should have a special bat with numbers much better than your projections. My third would be AK. Hell, he would be my number one. If he can put his wrist problems behind him, he can be one of the better hitters in baseball. Put that bat behind Arraez, Polo and Buxton with Miranda batting fifth and the Twins will score runs, a lot of runs.

    100% agreement on bringing in the best reliever available. Unlike most of you I am happy with the starting rotation and the position players. Reasonable health and this team could be good, very good. As for spending more dollars, zero concern that their opening day payroll is equal to, greater or less than last year. The only other needs I see are a veteran catcher for St Paul and a top catching prospect who is at least at AA. If dollars are available and gotta be spent, spend them on extensions to a couple starters and probably Arraez.

    Hmmmh, they give away Urshela to clear third base for Miranda. They have Lee likely needing a spot a year, or so, from now. And here comes another article suggesting they use significant player/prospect capital to acquire a third baseman. Bah-Humbug!

    Like your thoughts, EGFT. Got me thinking that it makes sense to keep most/all of the guys mentioned. You never know, some good health and a few good years from Polo, Keps, Buxton and the starters and the Twins could be winning their division in July. On the other hand, should a few guys struggle and the injuries return, then do the trades you talked about at the deadline.

    Interesting, however, the only player it makes sense to trade before opening day is Kepler. Keep all the others for trades in July with the young guys working their way onto the team during the season. The only thing missing in your projections going forward are the unknown players that would be coming back from the trades. Gotta believe there would be a couple nice pieces.

    Have a question for everyone who thinks the Twins should be spending like the Mets, Giants, etc. Just went to the Mets website to see what tickets cost. Late April weekend game versus Braves, lower level a few sections beyond third base. Range was $190 to $390. Twins don’t have single game tix available yet, but I am guessing less than a hundred bucks. How many of you would be willing to pay, say $250+ per ticket? And if so, how many games you going to? For me it would be none.

    Finding someone to add to the rotation is a must. I think not and pray the FO does not agree with you. And trading Arraez for anyone would be a disaster. They have the AL batting champion. Build around him rather than give him away if I read what you wish for. Would another bullpen arm help, you betcha.

    That’s correct. I was also correct as a player from Minnesota pays Minnesota tax and doesn’t get a credit from Florida, like he would from say Wisconsin.

    The article confirms what I said. Maybe I can say it more clearly. Each player files a Non-Resident return in each State he plays in, paying that State’s tax on the income he earns in that State. He then files in the State of the team he plays for. He pays that State’s tax rate on 100% of his annual salary. He then deducts from the amount he owes as a credit the dollars paid to other States. So when a Twin plays 3 games in Florida, he pays taxes on it to Minnesota in full, as Florida has no income tax, ie, he doesn’t get a credit.

    Not true. He pays the NY rate on his entire income. He then gets a credit for the taxes paid to other states.
