  1. Like the idea of the trade for Anderson. If you are willing to go 4/88 for Baumgardner, then why not pay more for Wheeler. Diekman seems high, and do not like him that much with the three batter minimum next year. Like most of this, but not sure about the move for Gallen, seems high to give up that much. Fixing the infield defense will mean a lot, lots of questions there.
  2. Nice approach, but who will you target, and for the real good ones, they other club want plenty. Are you willing to trade both Lewis and Kirloff, because that is the ask.
  3. FA's cost only money, Twins could well need the depth until they figure out which prospects are keepers
  4. I am in favor of extending the top 3, Berrios, Sano, Buxton. Buxton is the hardest to figure, but could be the least valuable and could be the most. Will depend on what he wants. Berrios will not be cheap, but get it done. After next year may well be too late. Sano I would do, might have to have some weight clauses (if legal) or other ways to keep him in shape. Hopefully Cruz gets him straightened out before he leaves.
  5. I am not expecting Cron back. I also think there are too many bouncing balls of players who could be up by midseason to pay Cron, and then to have to cut a player or two from the position players. Lewis, Raley, Kirloff, Larnach, Gordon could all be here in 2020. Being totally locked in will not be good if one of them forces there way on the club. Would like to see some trades for better players/pitchers with some of the minor league excess. Would also like to see the money from not having Cron and 1 or two others back pumped into the pitching staff.
  6. I am hoping more for the 160 -170 range including landing either Cole or Strasburg (I much prefer Cole).
  7. Oderizzi will be fine. I posted that he would get 3/51 from the Twins. This I feel is a little high, would like to keep it to 3/45 or a little higher. If he gets 3/51 somewhere else Twins I believe would get a comp pick after round 1 and signing team will give up their second round pick. Other thing is I do not believe there are many contending clubs that would pay that price for a pitcher that has been about 50-50 to be above average. I still am hoping the Twins sign him.
  8. I would say Duran, Rio, Jax, Javier for sure. Raley and Chalmers possible. It is much easier to stash a pitcher for a year and let them pitch in blowouts to start and see if they can handle the major leagues (or have enough talent not to send back). Remember one of the key past Twins moves was stashing Johan Santana that way. Blankenhorn and Celesto both are on the edge for me. For Celesto I would have to see if he is better than Wade and or Raley, Blankenhorn I might try and bundle and trade as I do not see a spot in the near future in the Twin Cities.
  9. mlbtraderumors has Will Smith going to the Twins at 3/42. Interesting, but more than I would pay a reliever over 30. I also feel he will take the money.
  10. Good move, let him find work elsewhere. He should not be in the majors with a club that expects to contend. At the same time, he helped get us off to a wonderful start this year. Good luck Martin!!
  11. Good news, I hope the Twins can do a 2 - 3 year deal for around AAV $15. If not, the one year deal is fair and Twins will have much better idea of minor league pipeline after 2020.
  12. This is not difficult. You have a team that has a core of very good players for the next 3 years (for most of them). You have a lot of interesting pitching and position players coming up in the farm system. You can spike the payroll a little now, with the expectation it will level off or slightly go down without hurting you. Therefore, sign Cole now (unless the price goes above $250 million for 7 years, at which time you are talking crazy money), QO Oderizzi, he will probably either take it or work a contract for like 3/$45, offer Pineda like 3/36 (this is a risk, but I feel it is fair)(he was on his way to much more before the suspension). Sign a couple of decent bullpen pieces (Romo, and one other(Smith, Becentes, Watson(if you're worried about the money))). Call it a day. Hold reliever contracts to 2 to 3 years. If you fail to get a front end starter, then get 1 of the middle pool (Wheeler, Bumgardner) and hope to develop 2 - 3 of your own. Would hope Oderizzi takes the QO, you will probably know more after 2020 on the development of the farm system pitchers.
  13. A QO to Oderizzi will show down the action there and guess the Twins will have a shot at resigning or Oderizzi just taking the QO.
  14. After several bad big contracts (read Pujols for openers), do not know if Angels owner would agree to that big a contract. If you are worried, then front end the contract knowing if Cole remains good he will opt out. There are ways to make this painful for big market teams with salary cap issues.
  15. Could see and opt out after 3 years and after 4 years, would need at least 3 to make it worthwhile. Cole I believe is only 29 so should have 3 - 4 good years ahead(baring injury and normal Twins luck).

    2020 Blueprint

Do not want Gibson at any price, and I think you feel that Hoffman is worth more than he is (and why would the Rockies trade any halfway decent pitcher)
  17. I think that getting Cole might be possible. If the Twins started at 7/240, that would make if difficult for the Yankees and Dodgers to get in without have significant luxery tax implications. I agree a second liner is more likely, but would like to see the Twins go large.
  18. From what I have read, Boston was ready to move on and probably would have, if they had not won the World Series. Owner seems very impatient, and hard to work for. Falvey was correct is not wanting to work for that type of an organization. I know I would not.
  19. Check out Big Don Newcomb from the 50's Dodgers, I don't think Verlander is close.
  20. Twins probably have another 5 to 6 people to drop, and looking at a younger pitcher who can be fixed is a good thing
  21. Dobnak to me is a #5 starter on a good to great team. We still need to sign at least 2 starters if not 3. If Dobnak is supposed to be more than a #5 starter, Twins will have another make the playoffs, and depart quickly when we see a team with better pitching.
  22. Sano will be the 1B in the next few years. Twins cannot afford to have below average (well below) over the next couple of years. So Sano to 1B is to me a given. Now Garver could play some there to give Sano some off days, but seems to be the Twins should sign a SS and move Polanco to 2B and Arrenz to 3B.
  23. Let Cron walk, we need money for pitching, and signing a stopgap 3B or SS would make more sense, moving Sano to 1B. Our infield was below average defensively last year, so move Sano to 1B, Arreaz to 3B, Polonco to 2B, and sign a stopgap defense wiz to man SS until Lewis arrives (or Javier who is a little further away). We need to pump a lot of money into pitching, so this makes the most sense.
  24. Lewis, I feel is getting there. I do not think 2020, but by 2021 he should be in Minnesota, and the fact he puts in the work, like many other of the Twins now, is a big plus.
  25. Remember many of these publications are on the coasts and tend to make assumptions based on the coast teams. I saw an article this morning that claimed Cole to NY Yankees was a given unless he decided he was going to pitch on the West Coast for less money. So I take them with a grain of salt. Same article had the Yankees using Clint Frasier in every major trade they were predicting the Yankees would make (including one with the Twins for Polanco). I would offer Cole enough (maybe 7/240) to make the Yankees go into major tax territory to sign him (and I believe you have to sign an ace when you get the chance). Strasburg or Wheeler I am lower on, but Wheeler would still be an upgrade (Strasburg is a fall back for me, too many injury issues), but think the Twins will attach a QO to Oderizzi and probably resign him on a 3/45 area deal. Pineda I would also want, but on a like about 3/36 or that range. Prices are going up for decent starting pitching and that is all the Twins need to be competitive.
