  1. If you average 6 runs a game, bullpen will not be a big issue (or as big).
  2. The way to fix this. Fire Rocco, bring in Rowson as manager. he has a chance of fixing the hitting. That will take care of many issues. These current hitting coaches are a joke.
  3. Answer to this is give it a month. It is a small sample size.
  4. As I see it the Dodgers, Padres, and Toronto have the pieces to make a Buxton trade worthwhile, and by bringing Toronto in you may force the Yankees hand to give up the top end of their farm system to keep Toronto from way passing them for several years. Leverage what you have. Then you can work on trading Kepler and Sano (later Polonco) to cost conscience teams for prospects or teams just starting what they think are their run. This will leave us with Kirlloff and Laurach, Arrenz, Donaldson, next year or shortly after Lewis and hopefully pitching pickup up in the trades, plus bullpen help. Maybe our FA should look at the Tampa Bay model, it seems to work.
  5. I think like Kirby you have to pay Buxton. Don't know when the TV contract ends, but that increase should be enough to help cover the back end of his contract. See if he will take like 10/250 or in that range you are confortable with. If not you will have to trade him soon and get the Kings ransom out of a club with a deep farm system (Besides maybe you could get the Yankees, Dodgers and Padres in a bidding war).
  6. What you could have done is spend the extra money ( 2 -6) million a year and either paid Trevor May or signed Liam Hendricks. This is a fail on the front office. Then we have the fail on Rocco's bullpen management.
  7. You're late to the party Nick. I have been saying this for 2 weeks. Twins have been outscored like 27 - 3 in the ninth and 10th innings. They need to sign Greene and send Waddle, Thielbar, and maybe other pitchers with options to the minors. Call up Law, and make a trade or two or this season will be gone by the end of May. If it is maybe you have to fire the entire management staff to get the message across. Trading will be difficult because a good front office will want top flight prospects for mid level relievers. Make moves now.
  8. Still same old bullpen. We need to fix this now, before the season goes away. If I am an opponent my game plan is to stay close and win late.
  9. I think what you're seeing is the start. sano must be put on notice, if he doesn't hit this year, you will have Laurich and Kepler in the OF and Kirloff at 1B. Second thing is to sign Buxton now, he is only going to get more expensive(if the Twins have not already burned this bridge).
  10. Maybe we took a bite from the wrong tree. Check out the Tampa Bay tree. Bloom, doing well in Boston, Friedman, doing very well in LA, Fardi from Friedman in DF. Sure there will be failures from this tree, but look at the sucess.
  11. maybe Buxton and Berrios agents need to go to management and tell them they want to win or will be gone after 2022. This cannot continue if we want to be able to sign decent players without way overpaying to come here.
  12. Only fix is to fire Baldelli and bring Rowson in. He has a chance of at least fixing the hitting. Something is off. It usually starts with the manager.
  13. Then bring up Duran and the other kid who starts with a B and put them in the bullpen. We have one of the worst pens in the majors, why not try something different
  14. Twins need to make some moves. 1. Fire Baldelli, hire Rowson. 2. Move Stachek, Thielbar, Dobnak, etc to alternate site and bring up the fireballer kids, can't be any worse than it is. 3. Look for reasonable trades for Kepler, Sano, etc. Probably will have to sell too low, but two weeks from now it will be too late. 4. Extend Buxton, Berrios, even if you have to overpay. If you cannot get them, look for major deals as with this team they will be gone to winners after 2022.
  15. For those that have not noticed the season is quickly slipping away and a few things need to be done now to try and right the ship. If this season goes off the rails the Twins could be forced to sell Berrios and Buxton (whose contracts both end after 2022) for pennies on the dollar. Both could decide to go to winning teams on the coast for mega contracts, with the Twins maybe only able to retain Buxton by paying him Trout money. 1. Fire Rocco and bring Rowson in as manager/hitting coach, This is usually the first step, but curious managing decisions in extras have forced this move. 2. Send out some of the lower half of the bullpen, Thielbar for one needs to go to the minors and maybe a few more and bring up some of the flamethrowers, even if they can't find the strike zone all the time. It is hard to hit high heat for most major leaguers. Law who was requested by a few does not fit my bill, Chambers (who may be too far away and his ilk are more like it). 3. Start looking for deals for players like Rooker and others to second division rebuilding clubs with a eye on getting good relievers/closer types in return (others take the 15 - 30 prospects (at least some of them)). 4. Consider trading Kepler (whose contract should be desirable to even cheap ballclubs to make room for Laurach), he looks like the best contact/power hitter to me.
  16. Great article. Maybe Rocco is planning on using his relievers for multi innings more than less. Outside of Duffy, who seems to be the put out the fire now reliever in the Twins pen, he has about 3 to 4 other relievers that can go 2 innings and maybe pitch them every 2 - 3 days. Should be fun.
  17. If you figure Arraez will play LF 3 days a week (if he doesn't there is something wrong here), there are only 4 days to cover with Arraez playing 2nd the other 3 days or third. That leaves Cave playing about 3 times a week and Garlick 1 until Kirloff comes up. We shall see.
  18. I could see the Twins putting Happ on the 10 day DL due to need to ramp up from COVID, that would let Dobnak start a couple of times before Happ is ready, otherwise Dobnak will probably be mopping up the bad Happ starts.
  19. right now I think Law has won a spot, and 2 of the other 3 will be sent down.
  20. If Kepler continues to be a dead pull hitter, do not see a major future here. And agree he may have more value to a building team in center field in return for pitching assets that do not fit that teams timeline. He is not a bad player, wonder like a lot of the rest of this forum, if Kepler will be passed this year when Larnach is ready (not the defender, but much better hit tool). Using the whole field can be learned, but he is running out of time.
  21. Too many decent starters is a nice problem to have. We still have 3 of these starters FA after this year, so Dobnak has a role. We shall see how he does.
  22. I think given the current situation, both above are low. I would be looking more at 6/90 - 100. Gives the Twins security (plus risk), and lets Buxton still explore the market before he is too old. I may be on the high side, but Twins have a lot of replaceable parts and players in the first 3 years at the start of this deal. Let's get it done.
  23. I could see Rooker + for Rodrequiz, we need another big arm in the pen and Rooker at this point will only be here at most this year before roster crunch gets him. (this is if you believe in Sano).
  24. Rooker is a good player, who I don't see finding a home here, unless the Twins give up on Sano. More likely a trade piece to a club like the Pirates for a pitcher. (and only one of several pieces).
  25. This was the reliever I did not want. We shall see how he does, just feel that the bust factor is larger with him than any other reliever.
