Felt Winder should be higher. Of all the Twins up and coming pitchers, I feel he and Ryan will be here first. Ryan to possibly start next year and Winder shortly thereafter. Winder may have to rotate between the Twins and Saints to keep his innings down, ramping the pitchers up after two short years is proving to be an issue.

Game Score: Twins 1, White Sox 0
beckmt replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Twins were much more talented than they played, We all need hope for next year and not a tank job. This may only be a mirage, but the hope is they finish strong and then retool for next year.- 50 replies

Twins are coming closer to playing like the expectations we had at the first of the year. Would be nice to see if they can keep this up.- 50 replies

I was surprised Rooker was this high, as I do not see a future for him here, too many of the same type of player either in the majors or above him in the order. Twins will hopefully be able to bundle some of these players off, because we have a major log jam on the 40 man.

Game Score: Twins 4, White Sox 3
beckmt replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Looks like both of them have a chance. If both make it, at least for a while and maybe longer, we can hope a couple of more make it next year. If Ober and Jax can hold down the 4 - 5 slots in the rotation, it will be more money to spend on the pen. -
In Defense of the Twins Front Office
beckmt replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I feel that either Ober or Jax could work out in the rotation, and the Twins have a lot of possible pieces. I still think we need either Pineda or 2 more pieces this winter to save the young starters from being over pushed. Maybe Ryan is here this year and should be so we will have a better idea. Out of about 12 possibilies maybe 2 - 3 will work out. But it is too early to know and we probably will not know until 2023 - 2024 on how the young pitchers work out. -
Week in Review: New-Look Rotation
beckmt replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think Pinada will probably be resigned here (or I hope he will be). Colume seems to be fine as a closer on a losing club, do not see him doing it on a winning club. Agree Simmons needs to be benched except for late inning defense.- 37 replies

Week in Review: New-Look Rotation
beckmt replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't see why we are wasting time with Barnes, send him back to St. Paul and bring up another young pitcher, or maybe they will bring up Thorpe when he is stretched out. Agree on Simmons, but feel the Twins do not want to spoil the 2 top minor league teams by moving more players to Minnesota. Won't mind seeing Ryan up here, we have nothing to lose at this time, and he has not pitched in our system, so we are not costing a farm club an arm. Outside of that, move Burrows and bring up another arm, if he is just used for mop duty, we have other pitchers we need to see.- 37 replies

NIck Gordon Sent to AAA - Is He a Long Term Player?
beckmt commented on LA Vikes Fan's blog entry in LA Vikes Fan
Don't see Gordon here, we still have Martin to account for and he can play SS. May not be ready to start the year, but should be here at sometime. Best twins lineup has Polonco playing SS and Arreaz and Martin playing 2B or Martin playing SS. We still have Lewis and Palasos at SS, so don't see the need for Gordon long term here. Love both Arreaz and Martin for the skill of making a pitcher work. That is a major point when you can run up pitch count on a nightly basis an wear a pitching staff out. This is what the Yankees do, make short starts from the opposing pitchers and work the pen to the point of a manager sometimes has to give a game away to preserve his pitchers. -
One other note, Rodgers departed last night with a sprained middle finger on his throwing hand. That will probably end all deals of this type.
-
I doubt you are going to see either May or Lux in the deal. Dodgers FO does not trade major prospects unless they are sure they cannot develop into very good players/superstars. I am guessing they are offering 3 - 4 lower prospects for Berrios, good players but less certain items. I would love to get Lux or May, but doubt this would happen.

Letting Byron Buxton Walk Will Haunt
beckmt replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I heard or saw that Buxton does want to stay here. He may need to tell his agent that, or the agent is under pressure not to take a discount (by the other agents worried about the view). If that is the case pay the man a reasonable amount and let's get it done. Berrios wants to test FA so there is little hope there unless you pay him market value plus. Let's end this issue, and maybe Pohlad will have to get involved this winter. -
One Prospect the Twins Should Be Willing to Trade
beckmt replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
keeping the ball in play, fouling off tough pitches, not chasing balls out of the zone. Not making the pitchers job easy. Twins have one in Arreaz and have a few more that are good.- 62 replies

Buxton and Berrios Extensions Becoming Murky

Twins Deadline Will Determine Depth of Failure
beckmt replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I do feel they have 8 - 10 possibilities for starting pitchers in the Twins system (somewhat close). Of these 2 or 3 will maybe make it, but we don't know to what degree they will preform at.- 33 replies

Twins Deadline Will Determine Depth of Failure
beckmt replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You are only likely to get one top 100 prospect for Berrios. And you had better be right. Problem is a couple of them are injured (Pearson) or ineffective (Gore). There may be others, but you have the pick the right one. San Diego and Toronto are the only 2 (Dodgers will not) maybe trade a high level pitching prospect in return. Do not think the Giants have one that close. Rogers may get you a decent prospect, but not likely to be a pitcher, not many clubs will move a pitcher close to the majors. We shall see. If I took a lower level prospect, I had better be right- 33 replies

Twins Deadline Will Determine Depth of Failure
beckmt replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It depends on what you can get as far as close to major league ready talent. As stated only Buxton, Berrios, and rogers can bring more than a minimal amount of talent back or lottery tickets. Buxton being injured will be selling low and probably has to wait until the offseason or sign and extension. Berrios they should already know what he wants for an extension and if they are not going to sign him, he must be traded for the biggest haul in the next two weeks. Rogers depends on the return, if it will help next year trade him. Twins need to open spots and see what the young pitchers have. Then you can act on next year.- 33 replies

Minnesota Twins 2021 MLB Draft Recap

I am sure both Buxton, Berrios and their agents know where their price point is. If they are totally committed to testing the market, then you must rebuild. If you can keep one (Berrios is the more important) then a retool is a possibility, but you must have the extension in place or the parameters of the deal by sometime this month. You cannot let either walk for nothing.
-
Then you are saying they should rebuild, I am not at that point unless I know I can't sign one or the other. But you have to sell them this summer. By next year they are looked as a one year rental and you will not get full value.
-
Interesting, but not the way I would go. You have ignored a couple of items. Shortly the Twins should know if they can extend Buxton/Berrios (have more hope for Buxton), Berrios you will have to meet his price (all it will take is one crazy team to do that). If you can extend neither then you have to go into rebuild (painful as it might be). Farm system is decent, you have many more pitchers than listed as possible (Sands, Vallimont, etc). Plus any top line prospects berrios and buxton bring in (and they should bring at least 1 each). Then you have to unload Donaldson(and retain a fair amount of money). At that point I might also move Kepler for more pitching and just hope to fill with either prospects or FA. Not impossible, depending on pitching we might be able to contend in 2023 or 2024 at the latest. If that fails you fire everyone and start over.
-
I feel most of the posters here would not expect Berrios to sign for 5/100, so you had better trade him, if that is your take. Hopefully the FO knows the answer and is not guessing. Berrios is better than you think, and Twins have a horrible record at developing top pitching. You would then need 3 - 4 out of the top end of pitching class to fill the spots. Nice hope, but to me that is dreaming.
