    IF the Twins also see the prospects available as B or less level prospects, then the answer probably is that Polanco stays with the Twins right? Like Jonathan Clase, for me, would certainly be interesting to say the least. I don't know if he would be available either, but he has speed like not many Twins players in the organization have. Just wanted to throw out the idea.

    I mean, I like shooting for the moon too, but I don't see them making Ford available. There are other guys though that are appealing in my opinion.

    In April he was shut down with a biceps strain, and then in June when he was rehabbing he had a partial tear of his right lat, and that caused him to not be able to come back last year. As far as I can tell from google he SHOULD be having a normal offseason. But yeah, want to make sure you get the medicals cleared.

    I don't know, Seattle does have a fairly strong system. I'm not advocating to salary dump anyone, let alone Polanco. Just wanted to bring it up as a topic.

    Here is a hypothetical; let's say the Twins trade (not Polanco) with another team to add a quality starting pitcher (we'll call that team the Marlins just for an example.) IF Seattle still wanted to trade for Polanco, what is something that would excite you to get back in a trade that is from Seattle that ISN'T one of their starting pitchers?

    I’m guessing the primary addition for the Twins is going to be Trevor Rogers of Miami. Fans will feel let down because it’s not Luzardo, but Rogers is still young, team controlled, and has had success in the past that the team could unlock. The kind of deal, like they did with Gray and Odorizzi and others, where they got someone more at a low point than coming off a great year. If he is the primary addition, how would you feel about that?

    I wish Pagan well, and he got PAID relative to what other relievers will make this offseason. I don't know that I would bet much on him having another career year after 2023, especially with moving to the bandbox in Cincy. Smart of him to add an opt out after 2024 to get another contract if he does have a great year, and/or be able to opt in for 2025 if the results in 2024 don't wield great results.

    I view it as, Gray's production must be made up. I do think Paddack can do, at minimum, what Maeda provided in 2023 (100ish innings, about a 4 era.) That said, I'm not at all certain 2024 Sonny Gray can match 2023 Sonny Gray.

    IF that is the play I'm ok with it. They absolutely need another playoff level starter, so they have to be creative on how to get there.

    Love Polanco, and if he is still with the team opening day I would be happy. They need to add a playoff level starter to the rotation, and will need to be creative to make it happen. Polanco alone doesn’t net you a playoff starter. Polanco plus prospects may, or just a prospect package may. Have to see what others want. If Polanco’s legs are holding up, he is a very good player. I hope he is healthy. And I’m certainly not selling him off for a prospect package that is years away either

    Ray wouldn’t be back until mid season this year. Desclafini will be available opening day.

    This one is fascinating to me. Ray is a former cy young winner who will come back midseason from tommy john, AND he can opt out after the 2024 season if he chooses. Descalfini is healthy and serviceable, and Haniger had a number of good years with the Mariners.     Mostly because he has never made the majors, at least not yet. I know he was a major league 40 man waiver claim, but I didn't know if that should be shared in the MLB side or the AAA/minor league side. I ASSUME he will be in St. Paul to start the year, so that's why I chose here. Glad to be wrong, and maybe he does contribute to the major league team. That would be a good thing, right?

    This bleacher report article poses a trade of Kepler and Polanco (and cash, covering about half of their combined salary) to Seattle for Bryan Woo. I don't know that I see that trade happening, as I would imagine Seattle could ask for more. But I am a huge fan of Woo. They also list 7 other trades that could happen.     I mean, they led baseball in strikeouts last year as a pitching staff, and had the 4th most pitching WAR for all teams in baseball. There is still work to do to add pitching, but generally I'd say they are in a very healthy spot overall no? Whatever they are doing, overall, is working.

    It still gets results, and even the guys they are trading for they are getting the best out of right? I do think the 2022 draft class, that will all (mostly) start the year at Wichita, has some potential to add to the starting pitchers developed. But yeah, covid and the 2020 missed year really set a lot of prospects back it feels like.

    Ryan does have a lot to prove to show he is closer to first half 2023 and that he is over whatever injury he was fighting at that point (if that is truly the primary reason he struggled so much after the calendar turned to July.) On that note, do we know who is going to driveline this offseason? I know it seemingly helped a number of pitchers last year work on their craft. Hopefully a number of them (or all) are going there again this offseason.

    Ryan and Ober and Varland, as well as (arguably) getting the most out of Lopez and Gray and Odorizzi and Maeda. Plus, a "bunch" of relievers that (again, arguably) give them an elite level bullpen in 2024. I guess what I'm saying is, I'm kind of sick of the talk that they can't develop pitching. They have a really strong pitching staff AND a really solid amount of prospects in the system right now.
