They used 22 relievers (and 2 position players) last year specifically as a reliever or opener. I wouldn't be shocked at all if the number this year is north of that. But they have at least that number in guys who have some major league experience. That's a good thing too.

I'm curious why you have Jay Jackson not listed as a lock? Frankly, Okert is a lock too in my opinion, what with being out of options. The bullpen does appear strong, with a lot of depth.

Once again, this episode was great. LOVE your guys' work! Jeremy throwing out the idea of Montgomery on a shorter term deal here. He wouldn't cost a draft pick (which helps) and having a decent-ish relationship with Boras certainly doesn't hurt. My question; do you think that rumor has legs? Thanks!

How Far Has the Twins Rotation Fallen?
Cory Engelhardt replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I mean, they added Paddack on opening day a few seasons back. If you are Falvey, and you want moves to happen before opening day, there is still a month and a half to go right?- 79 replies

I think SWR should be added to that depth list too, but I agree. It's something that managing innings will be important for everyone, but maybe especially Paddack. He is only getting paid 2.5 million for this season, so maybe that is part of the plan already, having him available for 100ish innings, and monitor them closely?

Resolving the Apparent Infield Logjam
Cory Engelhardt replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
They have a logjam (if you want to call it that) because they have a number of talented players for specific roles. That's a good thing. Injuries have always been a thing. It'll get worked out. When someone gets hurt, we have depth/quality behind them. I hope/anticipate they will still make a trade. I don't anticipate Lewis being traded anywhere. The DH spot is always still available. Basically, I wouldn't worry about this on 2/14/24. Things have a way of working themselves out.- 133 replies

Lots of offseason still to go. I'm curious what the rotation will look like August 1.- 79 replies

I'll add to this; if/when they do add another starting pitcher; the stretch/long reliever role could go to both DeScalfani and/or Paddack throughout the season too no? It's good to have depth.

Count me in the camp of thinking SWR should be ahead of Dobnak, and probably Festa, at least early in 2024. But yeah, otherwise, agreed.

Cool to see Balazovic stick with the organization. Hopefully a full reset for him can get him going.

Timelines for high-end guys on when to move up a level or not are just so hard to guess. He certainly could start at the FSL/low A and be there for 2 whole months to start the year, but I could see high A cedar rapids even faster if things go well. AA by the end of the year feels fast, but that's only because there aren't that many ELITE level prospects to compare him to. It will be fascinating to see how this year goes for him. Wishing for good health.

I feel like an opening day projection should just have a spot set aside for a right handed hitting outfielder on the bench or at dh (they are going to add one) as well as a tbd starting pitcher addition. But otherwise this looks good

Twins still exploring starting pitching market
Cory Engelhardt replied to Cory Engelhardt's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I wouldn't at all hate Ryu if they aren't able to make a trade at this time. I could get behind that. -
This came up on mlbtraderumors today. I have to say, I'd almost be angry if Syndegaard were added. If the Dodgers couldn't fix him, he is probably done. My opinion is this signals they are going to add a starter, and still most likely via trade. Of the players listed, I only really think that Lorenzen and Ryu could constitute a potential upgrade over DeScalfani and Varland. The rest, I'd consider as a minor league depth type signing. Your thoughts? https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/02/twins-rumors-michael-lorenzen-noah-syndergaard.html

When he is ready, he will be up. Can't wait to see him play. Maybe that's at 1b or 2b or even primarily dh, but he will be up.

C'Mon Twins FO, Make a Bold Move!
Cory Engelhardt replied to SteveLV's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Count me in the group that they will add a starter. And with that, whoever it is, there will be people who are mad that it isn't a "bigger" name. As always, don't read the comments :) But I am fairly certain they will add. -
I've read that he should be ready for spring training. I guess we'll find out soon if that is true.

Also lends to the reason they haven’t been tied to some players over the years in free agency, like Clevinger or Bauer or Chapman. They want good people in the clubhouse. That’s a good thing

I see Gordon as having the most to lose, in terms of a numbers game. Larnach and Miranda both have options, so there is still opportunity for them to find their footing this season. Kirilloff, if healthy, will get every opportunity to perform. The interesting thing to me is what will happen IF everyone is healthy AND Brooks Lee is ready.
