    This is going to be WILD when he is traded March 12th to the Marlins, then he has a good season and the Twins re-acquire him in July :)

    No one on paper is at the Dodgers level. I'd also probably argue the Mets and Phillies and Cubs all look better than anyone in the AL. That said, if health is there, this team was playing as well as anyone for about 3 months last year. It's not impossible.

    Cuddyer and Sano were drafted/signed as SS's. Joe Nathan also was drafted as a SS. Same with Jacob DeGrom. It's not the drafting of SS's that means they don't have a 1B right now that isn't a star. Alex Kirilloff, if healthy, would have been very good at 1B by now. I have no doubt. We'll see, but I'm optimistic that new owners will help with payroll more to allow for more aggressive acquisitions for positions of need.

    I’d be really surprised if Paddack is just given a spot ahead of SWR, or Festa, to be honest. Hope he can do well obviously, but the young arms showed more than he did last year. Plus with Rocco not mentioning him, that answers the question for me.

    Miranda from July on last year was really bad though right, just like France was. From July 10th through the end of the season, Miranda’s wRC + was 47, France was 75. And there is a real scenario where neither are on the team in June or July of this year: Im hopeful they both can perform: we will see

    Because Miranda hasn’t ever shown he can hold up for a full season and be productive? Plus he is only 3 years younger than France. If Miranda can show he can be productive there is a place for him. Hopefully he goes out and proves it

    I don’t understand the hand-wringing on this when it relates to both Miranda and to Julien: neither of them have showed that they can be healthy and productive for even 3/4th of a season before. Hopefully they can get to that point, and if that’s the case that’s a good thing. France isn’t the guy I was hoping for this offseason either, but if he is over his heel injury, there is a chance he can get back to 2021-2022 levels right? If not, there truly isn’t a loss here unless Keaschall or Rodriguez are blocked, which I don’t see happening

    If he earns a callup that's not a bad thing. If he is regularly hitting in the middle of the lineup in July, that's probably not a great sign for how the season has gone.

    First off, welcome! Baseball is back, and that's always a good thing. I checked the schedule too and don't see any tv listings for spring as of today. I have to think that'll be posted at some point, but as of right now there is nothing listed. Spring training games will have a tv component I have to imagine, right? Especially with the launch of Twins tv, I'd imagine rolling out that schedule will be here in due time. Have a great day!

    Can you clarify, did Rocco not answer because there wasn't anything to report regarding injuries, or did he answer by saying there weren't any injury news to report? How you wrote it appears ominous

    I agree with you. He came up because Dan Hayes and Denis Lin (San Diego's beat writer for the Athletic)both confirmed that the Twins and Padres had talked on Cease. It is interesting that Pivetta is getting about what Cease is this year now. I'm not even saying that it's only the Twins that should be in on Cease. Lots of teams should, namely Baltimore with all of their prospects. I guess we'll see how the offseason unfolds. Cease would be really great here.

    Nick Pivetta signs with San Diego, 4/55. They give up a pick for signing someone who had been offered the qo. This possibly relates in some way to their listening on trading Cease. Do you think this signing changes at all the changes they trade Cease now?

    Just throwing it out, that if Castellano shows literally anything in camp, that they work out a trade. I don't see any reason to just offer him back now for nothing.

    Here is what spotrac lists for 2024 and his 2025 buyout. But it's certainly possible the Twins covered some of the buyout for sure.

    The Twins only covered 4 million of Margot's 2024 salary. The Dodgers covered 4 and Tampa covered 2 for his 2024 salary.

    From all accounts he is a good dude, and for everything else he has been available. That's absolutely something the Twins don't have enough of. He hasn't played less than 140 games in any of the past 4 seasons. Prior to his injury on June 7 of 2024, he was hitting 251/329/403 for a wRC+ of 117 in the first 61 games. After his broken heel he missed 2 weeks and played the rest of the season at a 220/285/336 pace, or 73 wRC+. I have to think they are thinking he can at least get back to pre-injury levels in 2024, let alone possibly even closer to his 2021 or 2022, both would very much help. And, in the end, if he truly does get outplayed by any of the potential guys that could be looking for work this year, that's not a bad thing either. He's only signed for 1 million for this year. Ok, last thing, he is only 30, and his previous 4 seasons prior to right now he has a combined 7.9 fangraphs WAR, 9.2 baseball reference WAR. Those are very solid numbers. Only to compare to Carlos Santana, in the same years (prior to Minnesota) Santana had 4.6 fangraphs WAR and 4.8 baseball reference WAR. All of this is to say I'm not at all expecting France to be a difference maker again. I just think there is a chance he could be, and for the investment it's not at all worth being mad about. Hopefully Miranda and Julien and Gasper and eventually Keaschall (and others) can learn a thing or two from him. Especially when it comes to staying on the field.
