  1. I don't think Win Now accurately describes the Twins this year. More like, the window of contention opened for real last season (a couple of seasons later than had been forecast), and the front office is acting accordingly. For me, Win Now would imply a recognition that the window of contention will be closing very soon, and therefore near-ready prospects should be traded for more-established major league talent, with a full rebuild to follow imminently. So to the extent that the disagreement is merely a matter of definition of terms, I'm fine with whatever we call it. But if there's an implication that, say, Royce Lewis should be traded for an aging ace pitcher, then I'm not on board.
  2. Chief is unavailable at the moment so I will step in for him: "Yes".
  3. Moderator's note: This is starting to descend into bickering. Please either make sure you have something new to add, or move on.
  4. I was referring to Theofanopoulizzle, one of the Twins' biggest names ever.
  5. Woah. At least one big name there.
  6. Wouldn't it be more like the journeymen fighting for the apprentices?
  7. Too... something, I'm pretty sure.
  8. PR has a bad reputation in the general populace but this case is what PR departments are for. I've been in situations where we've said among ourselves, "we can't just go open-kimono with the public regarding our plans, but we can't let the current optics play out either." And probably so have you. MLB essentially defaulting on the message means fans are entitled to draw their own conclusions.
  9. Nice theme tying the players together. Each has a lot of hopes pinned on him, each is not quite yet the complete package, in very different ways.
  10. I did say, "if". I almost put in an asterisk, for a footnote, to say that actually saying it would be stretching the point.
  11. How do you know whether you'll get swept in the playoffs, unless you make it to the playoffs at all?
  12. Apparently they see more value in the extra pitcher than in that bat, as opposed to simple stubbornness?
  13. If you find a problem with someone's post, please use the Report button rather than inject moderation policy into the thread itself. That said, please don't overuse the Report button either. It seems like this post's title was meant for a humorous effect (since the writer explained the joke in the first sentence) and so as to underline his actual point, rather than for some kind of malicious purpose. It would be like if I said the headline isn't funny... it's hilarious! With regard to clickbait, I think most readers can usually separate the reputation of the site from the views of an individual poster. I wouldn't want to see a ton of that kind of thing here, as any joke can be run into the ground, but this instance passes muster for me. Had you clicked the Report button, you likely would have received a reply like this.

  15. Hey, I just invented a new joke: Hey, I just invented a new word: plagiarism!
  16. Getting treatment for your Major Depressive Disorder* is probably more important than making yet another comment on a website, don't you think? * I'm making fun of the intrusiveness of the ad, not of anyone's serious condition** ** Sheesh
  17. Their decision likely remains unchanged: they still want him in Rochester, just not Louisville.
  18. It might have been just Karma following his quote about needing ten AB, but he went a comical 0-10 (or thereabout) to start Spring Training. Taking that away, his stats have shown a much more presentable .310 BA, with enough walks (.394 OBP) and extra-bases (.448 SLG) to suggest he's as ready as other years. All appearances count, but I prefer recent trends where there is a sharp divide. That aside, Spring Training numbers count for very little in the first place, and this much slicing and dicing isn't especially sound. Bottom line, I'm not a big Grossman fan and would be happy if someone else proves to be a better alternative, but I don't think it's necessary to overplay the ineptitude. His Spring numbers aren't a reason by themselves to look for a change.
  19. I think my favorite Vargas-as-a-Red moment was that one time.
  20. I think we have at last reached... ... rock bottom.
  21. Hard to pick a more appropriate moment to close this thread to further comments.
