  1. Gray & Ryan have better records but I consider Mahle as our #1 starter. Mahle is very underrated, IMO he'll really blossom with the Twins. Mahle's ability to go longer in the game & added BP has help us tremendously for us to get to the post-season. Even with the addition of Mahle, Lopez and Fulmer we might not advance in the post season or even win the 1st game if our pitchers come in tired & injured. To avoid this we need to incorporate long relief to keep our pitchers healthy & rested going into the PS.
  2. Perez has guts to perform in that situation, a characteristic I like to see. I've always had faith in Palacios, with his smooth glove and always knew his hitting would come around, He's the best sub to Correa and have played 3B & 2B, they should call him up!
  3. You remember Chief those days when a work horse SP normally completed their games and team would have only 4 of them. We also had a closer to finish some games and a long RP they had in rare case of emergency. I'd love to have 5 work horses but as you know those days are regrettably long gone. Because of a few added teams and the stress from durability to velo/ spin rate. To begin this season we had 8 pitchers that fell into that category of someone capable of routinely give us 4-5 innings plus Cotton who could give us 3. And we had a very weak and unproven short relief. So who do you want to put your trust, on the weak short relief (which they have) or the 5 best SPs to pitch mainly 5 innings & 4 capable long relief to complete the game or hand the ball over to Duran? Short relief couldn't take that burden so it was transferred to the rotation to regularly pitch 6 innings, All 8 SPs have spent time on the IL and 4 have spent extensive time and are still there. We got a new pitcher that IMO can regularly go 6 innings and 2 new capable RPs which will help immensely. But to arrive at the postseason healthy & rested, we need to reincorporate long relief. Right now we have Smeltzer, Sanchez and maybe Cotton. Later Ober and Winder will become available to rotate in and out of long relief. But I'm afraid that might not happen,
  4. I rate this trade an A, I moved it up from an A- because I was very impressed by Leon's 1st appearance. This trade ranks right up there with MacPhail's trades. I take back every negative word about this FO inability to be proactive in trades. Although I've held out hope that they'd pull off trades like these. I don't get it with fans who'd want to horde redundant players & prospects only to lose potential undeveloped prospects during the #5 rule draft (we could've lost Miranda). This philosophy will get us nowhere, We lost some redundant bats and a couple of potential pitchers. We haven't develop a very good pitcher except Berrios and we traded him away, These trades should put us in the post season and maybe next.
  5. We have what we have as far as rotation goes, I don't care what others have. We are using 4-5 short RPs together w/ SP to complete a game, That is wasting rosters spots, having around 4 short RPs to do 1 long RP job.
  6. I'm happy that Cotton got this award. I was completely against DFAing Cotton. Cotton isn't wired for high leverage, not enough prep time type but as a long RP he's very capable and should have been kept for that reason.
  7. Love to see our defensive switch hitting Leon get 2 hits & 2 RBIs. Maybe he's breaking out hitting? That's what we need and needed today. Our BP really feel right with these 2 new RPs. We are ready to challenge our competition, whoever they might be. Still like to see our top of the order wake up. I'm really excited to see Mahle pitch. That would really get my post season motor racing.
  8. Yeah, it's incredible how he can throw so fast & maintain that controll. Reminds me of a story about Nolan Ryan early in his career. Ryan pitched to the 1st batter, he hit him and broke his helmit, next he hit the next batter & broke his arm, the 3rd refused to enter the box.
  9. We had at least 3 pitchers we who could have been used as long relief. Smeltzer (who was the most ready to start the season) was sent down, Ober who was put in the rotation and Winder who was used only 3X in April. That's the content of long relief until now. We didn't have anyone who could go 6innings consistently. The piggy-back system was never implemented, what was implemented from the beginning was 1 SP & 5 short RPs. That's what burns out the BP & later the rotation. We all know how bad Paddack elbow was! Yet was asked to pitch 6 from the beginning, if he was dialed way back we would've gotten a lot more innings from him. Ober is still basically a rookie and you ease a rookie into 6 innings regularly but they pushed him and he became injured. Winder was a rookie and have had arm problems yet when was called into the rotation was called to pitch 6 innings thus his injury. Gray wasn't in condition early in the season therefore the early injury. Long relief is an after thought. When Winder was no longer needed in the rotation they sent him down same with Smeltzer. Now after A Sanchez & Cotton had pitched good games they sent them down when they are much needed in long relief.
  10. If piggy- back type strategy was implemented (not only Archer) from the beginning as planned, we wouldn't have all these injuries. And throughout the season we'd gradually need it less.
  11. I was expecting the top of the line-up to be more fired up after those great trades. But they were very disapponting. The middle to back end of the line-up kept us in the game. Hope Buck, Kepler & Kiriloff get everything straightened out we need them. Archer has been progressing throughout his time with us. Since Wes Johnson stated his departure, Archer has bumped his stuff up another gear. Although he's getting more SOs, his command had suffered a little. His command was better last night but we see with more effort he's giving, he's not able to complete 5 innings. I wish he would focus less on SOs and tone it down alittle so he can make it thru 5. Another thing I'd like to state again is Archer has a very good 4SFB & slider but he also has a pretty good change up. He's using his change up more for setting up his pitches but I differ I believe he should pound the zone with FB/slider and once ahead in the count sneak in a change up. Batters often get KL or KS by his change up and if hitters do hit it, it's often weak contact. Jax had a random bad day that put us in a hole that the line-up couldn't get us out of it to put up a win.
  12. I'm really glad that FO addressed our catching problem. I was hoping for something better and it seems CLE got the better of the deal. But it is what it is and we got good defensive catcher that can come in & give us an upgrade at catching & take the presure off Sanchez. And Hamilton could do better at CLE. I will give this FO an A- on this trade deadline
  13. CES is a good bat & Steer is good on both sides but both are redundant. A very good trade to fill a big hole.
  14. Padres don't know how to deal with their pitchers, T Rogers, Twins have discovered that they can't pitch him back to back. Padres didn't pitch him correctly, therefore Rogers exelled then crashed! I feel sorry for him. Brewers knows him and Rogers will do well w/ him. NYY stole Montas much like SD stole Musgrove last year. Musgrove was offer to the Twins but failed to give a counter offer. I feel that FO dropped the ball also with Montas. HOU made some creative trades that worked well for them. They picked up (c) Vazquez from BOS to filled that offense hole at that position. A trade that Twins could have easily made if they did their homework. Twins has filled their biggest hole with closer Lopez, they still need to close on a front-line SP, catcher upgrade and a long relief pitcher to replace all those who have been injured due to being over extended at SP.
  15. Great trade, Lopez fills our greatest hole, I hope this is the start and not the end
  16. Sometimes I think this FO is like schizophrenic. They told Correa and us that they want to compete and then they turn around and trade away our only proven closer in a pen that has been sub par the last 2yrs. Early in the off season with a rotation of 2 rookies and plans on taking on some weak arms projects which we had started w/ Bundy our only pre lock-out acquitition. With that in mind they proposed the piggy-back phylosophy. At 1st I resisted because I wanted them to go after better pitchers but I conceded. I advocated for a long time to establish a strong long relief corp and this would do exactly that. A formula of SP/ 5 innings + long relief/ 3 innings + closer/ 1 inning leaving some room to manuever. Having everything pretty much scheduled out, everyone knows when & where they'll be used well in advance so they can adaquetly prepare. But after Winder was used only 3X in April, long relief was totally abandoned for the year which leaves us in this fiasco of too much stress on SPs and short relief resulting in blown arms and injuries. They also promised to go after a good pitcher like Montas, but they dragged their feet again in negociations and lost their best chance for him with a lot of healthy prospects. Dead-line trading can be very tricky & expensive (NYY got lucky w/ Montas). There are still some good pitchers out there but it'll be very tricky because we lack some healthy trading pieces.
  17. A lot of tough luck. Hopefully that TBD is a new impact arm that we are waiting for in a trade. Wouldn't that be nice! Together with other moves, would be just the spark we needed.
  18. Musgrove is a different breed, a real work horse. Not too many are still around, he can regularly handle those innings. We don't have anyone like him, as far as putting in the innings w/o repercussions,
  19. I agree w/ AJ that the way that Baldelli's handling of the bullpen is textbook for wearing out BP arms. But the solution isn't wearing out the rotation. Gray is fresh and ready to bounce back to pitch a great game his next game, not approaching his next outing not 100%. The solution is the balance of SP, long relief & short relief. Until then our pitching will like always have tired arms & injuries
  20. I thought Ryan/ Snell match up was our best shot of winning a game. Snell isn't that good and Ryan be great at times especially after the DET game. IMO something isn't right in the clubhouse. Maybe Wes Johnson is part of it but I think it could something more. Some of the players seem very uninspired
  21. As I stated this off season that I'd be open for signing Rodon if he would be managed correctly when piggy-backing was presented to the fan base, because Rodon did not have a full long season in him. Pretty much why LaRusso let him go because he didn't fit into his old fashion type of SP who could regularly pitch 7 innings thru out the season. I'm afraid that SF probably got most of his quality innings and leave us w/ his sub par innings. So I wouldn't be in favor of a Rodon trade.
  22. Castillo just was traded for an exuberant price hope it does set the tempo thru out the deadline
  23. Polanco always has good ABs, he drives the count. Another attribute of Polanco is his durability. He plays everyday wether he's healthy or not. This can be negative because when he plays hurt his production goes down, longer he plays hurt further his production goes down. When he's hurt he needs to communicate with Baldelli and not play. The latter 1/2 of 2019 until they they took him off SS he played with tremendous pain and had 2 surgeries. We need Polanco in the line-up as much as possible so keep him off SS.
  24. Great that Beckham & Palacios are heating it up in AAA and should be called up to the bigs. We have a lot of 3B/2B quality players and Brook Lee that would eventually fall into that slot.
