I wish you quit cherry-picking what I write to keep everything in context, I separate the SS as the position & the hitter as something different. I don't see Noah as what he was with the Twins as a hitter & what he's starting out with the LAD but what he's projected & what LAD is able to develop him to be. They have plenty of time to do that.

That thought came across my mind in the beginning of the off-season, when it was obvious that we weren't going to sign a top-end SP to pair with Lopez in the postseason. I wasn't in favor of it but I thought since it's off-season it is something to discuss since we had a potential great pen w/o him by opening a thread. You did a much better job than I did Peter, yet the response was the same. Most people believe starting ramping Duran up as a SP by sending him down to AAA. I'd be 100% against that. I'd absolutely against wasting his bullets down there, Much like having Varland down in AAA when he could be tearing it up at MLB in the BP. I'd also think it's a good idea to limit Paddack & SWR innings. Paddack's velo & spin has been decreasing, IMO dialing it back would do him some good. IMO Canterino needs to start out in the BP & should be brought up to MLB as soon as possible.

My analysis is very objective not based on negative & positive hype on social media to sell FO transactions but on personal observations based on the player & the situation. Noah Miller is doing great, he's still the best SS prospect out there & an unbias analysis can see w/o a doubt his glove can play at the MLB level very easily, true he's not a slugger (some people wrongly evaluate a player solely on this) which is not important in being a SS. He is a contact & OBP hitter that LAD can see & develop, He also hit a walk-off in one of his 1st game that he played. That's who is. So who's Gonzales & Doncon? Gonzales is a contact hitter that have shown some power potential for someone who is big, thinking that he'll grow into it. But the fact is he's short & is fully filled out & has reached his max. Because of his poor glove he's destined at RF/1B/DH. IMO he'll never make it to the MLB for the Twins because #1) The Twins have a large glut at these positions with many who are better than him. #2) because of his size he won't hit enough HRs to profile at his positions. #3) the Twins will try to change his approach & screw up his swing. Gonzales is much like Astudillo except Astudillo had a much better glove. Doncon is a low lotto ticket with low upside. If he makes it to the MLB it'd be a long time coming & it'd be very little impact if any. So it's early but by looking truthfully at who they are & the situation we can make a fair judgement. CCHF you have been riding me because my analysis doesn't line with your social media hype filter. It's early to officially judge the Polanco trade except for DeSclavani. Social media hype declared DeSclavani would have a considerable impact on the Twins. How dare I to dispute this & to say he'd have no impact (stating my reasons)! Have you admitted you were wrong?

His heart warmed mine. I'm glad he got 2 rings, he deserved them.

Polanco filled a big hole in SEA roster. The only useable piece we got was Topa RP a position that's not a high priority & where there is an overabundance. Polanco was as often stated on TV as the heart & soul of the team, a great clubhouse guy, a clutch hitter whose bat can play every day. Twins is the only team he's played for in his long career. I'm sure he didn't want to be traded and that being traded was like a gut punch. Understandably, he's having a slow start which is unfair to compare now. But there's no doubt that Polanco will turn it on & help SEA advance in the postseason. That is the time to revisit the trade & see how much we gave up.

Checking Back in on Chris Paddack
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We're 4 hrs ahead which means the game starts at 10:38 pm. That's after I normally go to bed. The game would have to be very special. -
Checking Back in on Chris Paddack
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Neither a cold early spring evening game at Target. They could at least have afternoon games on the weekend. I assume Patzky that you probably live near the West Coast because are concerned about the East Coast games & not to mention the hardship of evening West Coast games for Easterners -
Checking Back in on Chris Paddack
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm far from believing the hype that Paddack will step up & replace Gray. But Paddack should have the stuff to handle the LAA if the offense arrives again tonite. It seems the Twins try to accommodate the west-coast teams' schedule when they host them why can't they do the same for us, so we can follow the games? Living in Brazil makes it even harder. -
Miguel Sanó Finding Second Life in Los Angeles
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Many Braves have credited Ron Washington for turning them around. He knows how to do it & he brought his coaches that are on the same page as he is. Sano's SO rate has always been high & had been trending higher in his the last few years of his career as a Twin. Even starting out as an Angel it peaked out at 42.4 but has been trending in the right direction. It's a small sample size but with Washington record & hopefully change of Sano's attitude it will only get better. -
Miguel Sanó Finding Second Life in Los Angeles
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I marvel at Sano's power & quickness but Twins' "all or nothing" approach & his laziness has been his kryptonite. I hope Sano has matured because, under Wash's eye, he can still develop into an above-average player & LAA could use his talents. His SO rate is better (but still needs improvement), it seems like they are focusing on him making contact & getting on base. When he gets that right the HRs will naturally come. Wish Sano & Wash success but not against the Twins, It'd be nice to see the Twins & Sano play tonight but I'd be in bed when they start the game. -
IMO it'd be tough to squeeze Bowman through waivers because their are a few teams that need relief help. Would a trade be appropriate? We had a good BP even when Duran, Thielbar & Topa on the IL & very caple Alcala in AAA & have a tremendous Varland that could be used. IMO Canterino is destined in the BP & can be pretty impressive. We can afford to swing a RP trade.

It'd be a shame if it isn't fixable, soon. He's been so steady in the recent past. A real head-scratcher.

The Twins' Catching Rotation is Costing Them
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If you think defense at catching isn't important then what you say makes sense. But most serious fans that don't follow social media would disagree w/ you. Although I thought $30MM/ 3yrs. is too much for catching, that's what they paid Vazquez to do, so why not have him catch at least 1/2 the games? Especially when he's a better catcher than Jeffers. Jeffers is a better bat so it makes sense that he DH when he's not catching. What doesn't make sense is having Vazquez DH. What I saw last year as the season progressed & Jeffers was given more playing time, his #s dipped especially defensively. What Jeffers has shown me so far is that he's very good especially offensively in a supportive role but in the leading role he can't handle it especially defensively; that's why Vazquez was signed in the 1st place. The whole team in general stinks w/o Lewis so I wouldn't focus on Vazquez but I'd focus on having other hitters at positions where production is mandatory that isn't producing to play less. So far this season Vazquez batting has been fine for a catcher with promising signs of getting better. So I'd wouldn't want to disturb what is working for something that probably won't. -
I was wondering the same thing & I added it to my original comment. I also wondered that he might have picked up some bad mechanics that screwed up his swing & increased his SOs. His hitting is very uncharacteristic of him. Maybe the talk of trying Martin out at 3B (IMO is a bad idea) could be the result of maybe doing something with Farmer. Even if it's a fake injury, it's an excuse for him to correct what's wrong.

Very good insight on Martin. I was against the acquisition of both Margot & Santana. Farmer is a very steady bench player that should really mash against LHPs. The fact that he isn't is very uncharacteristic of him. There's something very wrong going on, maybe he's hurt, or poor mechanics he picked up that screwed up his swing & caused SOs. Whatever it is, the Twins need to find out what it is & correct it.

With Lewis going down it put a lot more stress on Correa. Correa has been highly depended upon to take up the big slack in the INF. Now in the absence of Correa the INF has greatly floundered & become a great sore spot. OF is a different story. Kepler is a great RFer but RF isn't a premium position & with Platnium glove Buxton at the premium position CF. Buxton is able to take up the slack with capable subs. Although we desperately need the return of our spark plug Lewis. Defensively we desperately need the return of Correa. IMO with less need of Martin in the OF with Buxton good health. He'd be more needed at 2B to better our INF.

CWS is just what the doctor ordered. I have expected more from the bottom of the order (Castro, Vazquez & Farmer) so I was happy to see Castro & Vazquez having great nights. I'm very concerned with Farmer, tonite against an easy LHP, Farmer should have hit the snot out of ball instead he SO 3Xs. Something is broken, the Twins need to find out what happened & fix it! The Twins are still striking out way too much with only 1HR to account for it. Ryan's HRs are still a concern. Wish SWR well tonight, Go Twins! Thanks for that Sano clip. I'm still marveled at how quick Sano is for being such a big man. I've been very hopeful that Wash'll help correct Sano. Sano is close to the top team OBP. I wish him well but hope LAA loses against us.

The schedule?- is the luck of the draw, it'd have been nice to face our last year schedule with MIA & HOU early. But you can't blame that. Coaches?- and coaches teach only the philosophy they are told to teach. As far as I can see Popkin is a good coach. I don't blame them. Owners?- IDK whether they can cough up more money or not but many teams have less of a budget that do well & there are many that have higher budgets & aren't doing that great. No matter what we are stuck with them & I'm happy they aren't Griffin. So it doesn't do any good to blame them. Hitters?- They are basically the same as last season, when everybody raved about winning a postseason series. IMO hitters are the by-product of philosophy, drafting & development. I don't blame them. Injuries?- Yeah they hurt especially when they are 2 of our best hitters that are the archetype of the team's philosophy & bedrock of our INF. I put the blame squarely on the FO. The philosophy for one thing. The 2nd thing is when I see teams aren't approaching this FO with good trade deals I don't have faith in this FO to inniate any good deals. So that's why I said that if this does nothing I'd rate this off season a C but after this FO was done I rated this off season an F because they made us weaker. I didn't think this season was going to be that good but it turned out much worse than I expected.

Do the Twins Have a Process at the Plate?
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
By your article Ted it sounds that the Twins have been trying to change their "all or nothing" approach for some time now, I beg to differ. Going into the off-season they stated that they weren't changing anything and that they weren't concerned about the SOs. Entering spring training, their solution to the too many SOs was to have their "all or nothing" hitters change nothing while acquiring mediocre at best contact hitters Santana & Margot (bad idea) to balance things out, Twins broadcasting their intent of doubling down on their approach made it easy for the league to prepare for it (like laying off throwing FBs & throw a lot of off-speed). It appears to me that with the poor production early in the season, they are just starting to try something else. You can't change overnight what you spent seasons incorporating especially not having a spring training to start it. IMO FO even with the poor results, they'll still want to cling to their philosophy & try to spin some stats that try to make us think that maybe it's the players, coaches, owners or anything else except their philosophy is the problem.- 24 replies

Scouting the Statline: Charlee Soto's Hot Start
Doctor Gast replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I've liked Soto from the beginning. He's in good hands, it's great to finally see the results of our expectations & him exceeding them & discovering that he has even a higher upside.
