  1. I think Twins have passed Astros -Cole and with all the other baggage this year. Hard to argue Yankees are less than the favorite. Looking forward to a fun year to be a Twins fan.
  2. 4 million this year not necessarily getting screwed.
  3. Anxious to see players on the field. Going to be a great year for Twins fans.
  4. Great Twins are recognizing this as an issue for Berrios and coming up with a plan to address it instead of just hoping it will be better this year. Appears Twins are putting more thought into how to get the most out of their players and willing to try new approaches.
  5. A lot to be excited about this year being a Twins fan. Injuries and unforeseen performance drop-offs will happen this season. Appears Twins are built to withstand some of this with quality players waiting for their opportunity. Looking forward for some of the high level prospects to get some exposure to MLB this year.
  6. After this year could see Lewis starting his MLB career as supersub, backing up SS, 2B, 3B, and OF. Taking Gonzolez and Adrianza's place, Rocco likes to get his players rest, plenty of PT for someone as versatile as Lewis. Hope he figures his swing out and keeps improving.
  7. Not much else to do in offseason but analyze numbers, make rankings and predictions. To be honest, I am tiring of it also. Looking forward to seeing players on field, making my first trip to spring training in a couple of weeks.
  8. Time to move on from Manfred, he's dug himself too deep a hole to get out of. Will never regain respect of players.
  9. I hope for similar performance from Berrios, Odorizzi, Maeda, and Pineda. Along with eventually Hill and Dobnak, Smeltzer, Thorpe, Bailey, Chacin, and Duran pushing for starts. Looks like Twins sit good for pitching, maybe not true ace or #1A and #1B like Houston had last year, but great depth. There will be some separation over the season. FO has set up good competition with some veterans and prospects.
  10. Weakest up the middle, Buxton great when playing dropoff if not playing, Unsure of potential backup/replacement Celestino/Lewis? Kepler, Cave, and Wade were not the answer last year. Arraez and Polanco good offensively but limited on defense. Adrianza and Gordon don't look like long term solutions. Unsure of prospects at SS/2B beyond Lewis and Blankenhorn. Maybe Lewis next supersub at 2B/SS/3B/CF.
  11. Only locks barring injury for early season rotation are Berrios, Odorizzi, and Maeda beyond that who ever looks good in spring training between Bailey, Chacin, Thorpe, Dobnak, Smeltzer. When Pineda comes back he will be near lock to be in rotation so only one rotation spot to fill for whoever has earned it at that point. FO has down well not putting all their eggs in one basket. Hopefully one or two of these pitchers separate themselves from the others and makes the decisions easier.
  12. I could see shorter starts followed by 2-3 inning pitcher. Well documented pitchers success declines third time through order. Maybe starter 5 IP then a pitcher for 3 IP, then closer if ahead in 9th.
  13. The FO is really into analytics. I am sure more data available for college players than HS, also college data is against higher level of completion. 20-21 year olds more projectable than 17-18 year olds. Maybe this is part of why they have drafted more college players.

Good write up, I agree don't know how MLB can allow Houston to retain title. It was wrong, they knew it was wrong. No way you can argue that it did not affect outcomes of games. At minimum strip them of WS title, even if you leave it vacant for that year.
  15. Good post free agency pickup for Twins, needed more certainty at starting pitching. Maeda not an ace but solid midrotayion addition.
  16. Would be surprised if got more than a spot start or a couple of weeks in BP to get some exposure to MLB this year. If does well this year, will be set up for next year to make move to MLB. With all the additions and Dobnak, Smeltzer, Thorpe, and Duran, starting rotation 8-9 deep already.
  17. Will likely start season in AA, but since on 40 man may be called up for spot start or to cover short stay on IL. Very exciting prospect, looks like he had passed Graterol in Twins evaluation as possible starters. Besides Thorpe, Dobnak, and Smeltzer who made their MLB debut last year, definitely the next in line as potential starter, and most likely top of rotation starter
  18. Rortvedt will need to be on 40 man roster after this season, Jeffers after 2021 season. Will be interesting to see who Twins call on if injury occurs. Can't see them utilizing Astudillo as half of 50/50 or 60/40 catcher rotation. Rortvedt seems more advanced defensively especially throwing out basestealers, LH batter, Jeffers more advanced hitter, good pitch framer, RH batter.
  19. Should not announce trades until final, Reporters in such a rush to be first to report, leds to premature announcements.
  20. I agree with your roster. Teams tend to give veterans first chance out of ST. Bailey and Chacin on shaky ground Dobnak, Thorpe, and Smeltzer will be given chance if don't perform. Not an Astudillo or Cave fan (or Wade), but Cave most likely out of ST with Rooker and Kirilloff waiting for opportunity.
  21. Hope Twins keep Graterol and he goes on to have great career. Plenty of pitchers have had early career injuries and have went on to have long term success.
  22. Won a lot of games last year, would say roster looks better than at this time last year. Bullpen vastly improved, have moved on from some of players that were there last year, Parker, Harper, Morin, Magill, Mejia no longer on team.
  23. Nice article, Nick. I would put Javier down the list more. Hard to justify with such a poor season last year. Prospects hard to rank, everyone gets excited when a prospect does well at lower levels, where over half the players will never see AAA. But they don't always progress as expected when moved up and playing against equally talented players.
  24. Maeda moves to #3 starter, pushing Bailey down. I continue to see Bailey as setting the bar for starting pitching, meaning if Dobnak, Thorpe, Smeltzer, Chacin outperform him they pass him up. Pineda comes back mid May, a top 4 of Berrios, Odo, Maeda, Pineda looks like an improvement from last year and good competition for #5 spot. Hate to see Graterol moved, but have to give up something to get something. When Gonsovles and Stewart were top pitching prospects for Twins, hind sight looks like they would have been worth more as trade pieces for a proven player.
  25. Always hard to argue with someone who has seen a player play much more than you have. Sure I would have hoped we trade from excess like outfielders, but maybe Twins feel BG injury risk or trading for more of a known quantity versus potential.
