  1. Good post free agency pickup for Twins, needed more certainty at starting pitching. Maeda not an ace but solid midrotayion addition.
  2. Would be surprised if got more than a spot start or a couple of weeks in BP to get some exposure to MLB this year. If does well this year, will be set up for next year to make move to MLB. With all the additions and Dobnak, Smeltzer, Thorpe, and Duran, starting rotation 8-9 deep already.
  3. Will likely start season in AA, but since on 40 man may be called up for spot start or to cover short stay on IL. Very exciting prospect, looks like he had passed Graterol in Twins evaluation as possible starters. Besides Thorpe, Dobnak, and Smeltzer who made their MLB debut last year, definitely the next in line as potential starter, and most likely top of rotation starter
  4. Rortvedt will need to be on 40 man roster after this season, Jeffers after 2021 season. Will be interesting to see who Twins call on if injury occurs. Can't see them utilizing Astudillo as half of 50/50 or 60/40 catcher rotation. Rortvedt seems more advanced defensively especially throwing out basestealers, LH batter, Jeffers more advanced hitter, good pitch framer, RH batter.
  5. Should not announce trades until final, Reporters in such a rush to be first to report, leds to premature announcements.
  6. I agree with your roster. Teams tend to give veterans first chance out of ST. Bailey and Chacin on shaky ground Dobnak, Thorpe, and Smeltzer will be given chance if don't perform. Not an Astudillo or Cave fan (or Wade), but Cave most likely out of ST with Rooker and Kirilloff waiting for opportunity.
  7. Hope Twins keep Graterol and he goes on to have great career. Plenty of pitchers have had early career injuries and have went on to have long term success.
  8. Won a lot of games last year, would say roster looks better than at this time last year. Bullpen vastly improved, have moved on from some of players that were there last year, Parker, Harper, Morin, Magill, Mejia no longer on team.
  9. Nice article, Nick. I would put Javier down the list more. Hard to justify with such a poor season last year. Prospects hard to rank, everyone gets excited when a prospect does well at lower levels, where over half the players will never see AAA. But they don't always progress as expected when moved up and playing against equally talented players.
  10. Maeda moves to #3 starter, pushing Bailey down. I continue to see Bailey as setting the bar for starting pitching, meaning if Dobnak, Thorpe, Smeltzer, Chacin outperform him they pass him up. Pineda comes back mid May, a top 4 of Berrios, Odo, Maeda, Pineda looks like an improvement from last year and good competition for #5 spot. Hate to see Graterol moved, but have to give up something to get something. When Gonsovles and Stewart were top pitching prospects for Twins, hind sight looks like they would have been worth more as trade pieces for a proven player.
  11. Always hard to argue with someone who has seen a player play much more than you have. Sure I would have hoped we trade from excess like outfielders, but maybe Twins feel BG injury risk or trading for more of a known quantity versus potential.
  12. Agree with MikeLink, not a fan of trading for over paid past their peak pitchers. Prefer pitchers on the rise, wait until trade deadline.
  13. I am not usually keen on the strategy of signing multiple down trending pitchers with the hopes one of them reverses course. But since Twins missed on "impact" pitching and have 2 pitchers returning during the season. It seems like a reasonable strategy. Low risk with possible moderate reward.
  14. Since Duran is on 40 man, will probably get short term opportunities this year. A spot start or to get bullpen some rest. Like Poppen got last year.
  15. I am sure HRs will be down this year, but Twins will lead or be one of the top HR hitting teams in the league.
  16. Thanks, Seth, great article. Interesting to get new information about prospects instead of just standard stats. Love the prospects handbook, well worth the money.
  17. I think Bailey sets the bar for the young pitchers, if they pitch better than Bailey, they will move ahead of him. If not will continue to get opportunities but on a more limited basis. I agree, it would be great to have one more solid pitcher. But it will be good to see what these young pitchers have and let them pitch their way to more or move on to the next guy,.
  18. Great article, would not be surprised if Dobnak outperformed Bailey and pushes to be #3 starter.
  19. Would any of these options be better than Rooker, a RH bat that plays corner OF, if has a good spring training. Cheap and available,
  20. 5 starters were only Twins pitchers with over 70 IP last year. Will need to get creative for Graterol to get 100+ IP in bullpen this year. I like opener option, either Graterol as opener or paired to follow opener. Pitch every 5 games, limit to 3-4 IP/ 75-80 pitches. Does it make sense for 2 pitchers to pitch 3-4 innings every 5 days and get 110-120 IP for year or for 4 pitchers to get 50-60 IP for year using traditionally from bullpen?
  21. Starter? Big difference between pitching one inninng and 5-6 innings. Hopefully he remains a solid reliever in low leverage opportunities maybe progresses with more experience.
  22. Great article Seth, it is a key year for many of the Twins prospects. But that is how a team has to do it, have multiple prospects competing for limited positions, not everyone will get there. There is always a lot of flux with pitching, so could see 4-6 spots open up for pitching prospects by next year. Position players could also see 4-6 spots open up, Cruz, Gonzolez, Adrianza, Cave, Astudillo, Avila, Wade are all players that may not be on 40 man next year.
  23. I believe OFs Diaz and Davis would have been ruleV eligable this year were traded for pitching last year. I noticed too how many OFs will be rule V eligible next year. And looking at previous prospect top 30 lists, how many have never had significant contributions at MLB level. Many players have more trade value as prospects than MLB players, Rosario. If Twins can parlay multiple prospects to get a 2-3 starter I am all for it.
  24. Still look for Twins to add one more SP. But don't see need to overspend or reach.I am fine with standing pat with position players, plenty of solid prospects on brink of mlb.
  25. Why help the Red Sox? Let them have to sit on that fat contract. Even at 40M for 3, no guarantee Price will be worth that.
