  1. Berrios, Gibson, Graterol, and Hendricks come to mind and I don't regret the loss of those guys really. The post refers to prospects though and I would agree with those who suggest that the Twins have had some problems developing a strong pitching staff. There have been many lauded prospects in the past who floundered and Twins fans, myself included, are very hopeful for the current batch of prospects. Nevertheless, they are just prospects and none are currently among the top 10 RH or LH prospects in the game as Gonsalves and many others were in the past. Like I have stated, I have hope for the current prospects but the Twins should do whatever they can within reason to add a pitcher like Luis Castillo because these type of pitchers are not very plentiful. My opinion is that the Twins need to make a few trades this week because this team has a shot as much as any Twins team from the last 20 years. The waiting for Fernando Romero or Jordan Balazovic is a fun hopeful journey but once in a while a little sprinkling of a Castillo would be nice for a change.
  2. If he could be a good relief pitcher ... maybe, otherwise no because the Twins already have the same guy without trading or paying any extra salary.
  3. So many attempts and many are increasingly worthy of attention yet keeping track of defensive efficiency is still quite difficult. Personally, I feel more confident in watching a player. Still, that doesn't work if I cannot see enough players or games, which is impossible. So the rankings and metrics are worth a look. As far as the Twins go, Correa seems low because he makes everything look easy from all angles. Kepler is always good too. The remainder of the Twins are not more than average, although Kirilloff looks like he could be quite good at first base.
  4. Fernando Romero? There were others too. Take a look back and you will see that it was pretty much the same.
  5. Miami is unlikely to trade Meyer and the Twins would be foolish to trade Miranda. Miranda has done well so far and projects to improve quite a bit both at the plate and especially in the field.
  6. The trade is fair and decent return for the Reds unless the Twins have already made it policy to not pay pitchers past their arbitration years. Castillo has talent and experience that is missing from the team. This trade, or another, is the only way to get that talent. Coming into 2022, Winder was my favorite young pitcher but he will not likely be as strong as Castillo.
  7. Jermaine Palacios can play shortstop just fine, but I'm keeping Correa for the remainder of the year. The Twins need to have some record of holding free agents through their contracts. I expect Correa is gone next year but the odds are not zero that he could return for another year. The return for Correa would be negligible and the silence from the clubhouse would speak for itself. The Twins can and should add a few pitchers asap and I would think that we might expect more timely hitting for the remainder of the year from any number of our batters. Play out the schedule with C4 at shortstop.
  8. I have to agree with this response to the post. We will have a better idea of the entire Twins system after August 2. Cody provides a ton of excellent work to read on Twins Daily however, and the draft does seem like a natural point to look at the internal system.
  9. It would be hard to find a national writer that sees the Twins as favorites to win the World Series in 2022. A number of comments on Twins Daily have referenced the same basic idea as a means suggesting that Falvey hold his prospects or be very judicious if any trades are made at all. There have been a number of suggestions to trade Kepler and several mentioning Polanco too. A continual trend among many on TD refers to a window and the future. Every comment is our opinion naturally ... .... My take - the Twins are in first place which is a goal for many teams and their fans. The Twins have a number of players in their prime and support from emerging young players as well as some solid role guys. This may be the Twins best shot for years. Next year baseball will introduce a balanced schedule and you can count on all of Kansas City, Detroit, and Cleveland to be better. If not now, it is maybe never. Thus, it makes sense to make an attempt now. It may not be possible to get the help wanted for the pitching staff using prospects because other teams may not have any interest, but Falvey needs to throw out a pile of querries. It doesn't make any sense to trade from the MLB roster (I include Lewis), unless we are talking about pitchers we seek to replace with additions via trade, because the loss of regulars just weakens the team. I am in favor of a couple of trades for pitchers.
  10. Well said - thank you also to Jamie, Brock, and Seth as well. I have enjoyed your work.
  11. Yes, I agree that it will take 2-3 players to get Montas or Castillo. However, the farm system exists to develop future major league athletes or serve as players used to trade for the needs of the MLB roster. The Twins need a couple of relief pitchers and Castillo/Montas would be icing. When individuals get too concerned about a glut of position players, consider that some teams see value in a trade. Hopefully we read about some moves during the break, but certainly Falvey should make a few trades before August 1. The first day of the draft was amazing in my view and Jeremy was right on when he noted that Carlos Correa was our choice for the third round. Correa is already showing value rarely found at that pick too.
  12. The Twins have to be totally amped at their Day 1. Yes, Correa was a good pick too and that was an accurate note to add for yesterday's choices. Second the amazing coverage provided by Jeremy for Twins Daily readers; excellent work.
  13. An exciting pick. I have high hopes for him and would have been ok with Prielipp at #8, until Brooks Lee fell into the Twins lap. These two have a chance to be playing at Target Field in two or three years. Porter must have let teams know he wanted to go to college because he was not drafted.
  14. A switch hitter with a great hit tool that can play on the dirt - excellent choice.
  15. Agree with an apparent consensus that CF is covered decently and not really a pile of riches, but it always depends on what anyone/teams want in return for what the Twins seek.
  16. Always liked Bell but, no. Montas is worth a shot as is Castillo but I'm still hoping for a couple of relief pitchers.
  17. Thank you for doing such a fine job with this series. It has been informative, interesting, and fun. Being a little bit of a baseball geek, I was/am familiar with all of the top players but certainly found all of the writing to be engaging and worth every second. Every time I watch Kershaw I'm hoping the Twins find a gem and this makes me call out names like Lesko and Porter above the bats. Sunday should be fun for these kids and us.
  18. Lesko or Porter, please. Wait, if Brooks Lee falls, take him.
  19. Great work and good reading too. The draft is always fun and the research of players a hobby of mine. Baseball is a difficult sport to hit on draft choices. If the top four and Collier are gone at #8, I'm in for Dylan Lesko.
  20. The Twins are decent - they have as good of a shot as St. Louis, Right now the New York teams, the Dodgers, and the Astros are the best teams in baseball. I'm open to getting some help from a pitcher already in the system, like Canterino, but will leave that to the team's evaluators. The Twins are not going to trade from their MLB roster and they can absolutely afford the loss of a couple of prospects. We all know that Falvey will not "gut the farm." Right? So, let's do something. Robertson, as an example would be something. He may not be the answer and I would not give up a major piece for him but I also doubt the Cubs will ask for the moon either. The Twins could have gambled on either Graveman or Kniebel but took a lotto on Pagan and Paddack. No problem but now Falvey can make a move or two and attempt to make the team stronger again, hopefully with better results.
  21. A pitcher might be a good choice at #8, but if choosing an arm happens I'm going for Dylan Lesko.
  22. The argument that the Twins are not serious contenders requires the recognition that other teams such as the Yankees and Houston, for two examples, are superior and have better odds of winning in the postseason. I think that is true. The 1987 and 1991 Twins? Atlanta last year? Any team begins their run by getting into the postseason. Even the Dodgers and Yankees have to win some regular season games before they are eligible to be the favorites to win a World Series. The Twins have a decent team, they have a host of prospects that can potentially fetch a favorable return, and Falvey will not sell the farm. Understanding this, it is the job of every front office to complete transactions to improve their team and right now the Twins need two relief pitchers.
  23. Jeffers, Kirilloff, Miranda, Arraez, Gordon, Celestino, and the injured Larnach and Lewis are all young players supported by some talented veterans in Polanco, Correa, Buxton, Urshela, and Sanchez. Young pitchers include Ryan, Winder, Ober, Duran, and Jax. Gray, Archer, Smeltzer, and Bundy along with a few relievers have done decent. The Twins are showing they can compete with other good teams on a regular basis this year. It has been fun to date.
  24. Catchers need some time to learn the pitchers usually and there is no reason to trade for Contreras because he will want to go through the free agent process for sure. If the Twins want they can get in the bidding for Contreras in the offseason. Leave the catching alone for now and focus on pitching.
