  1. Excellent work and a fine draft - excited to see how Lee and Prielipp work out.
  2. I like this plenty because of the assumption.
  3. No disrespect to either Gray or Paddack but they are different types than either Montas or Castillo. Now i don't think the Twins will swing big for those two but Gray is a good #3/4 pitcher and Paddack may never be above a #5 again after an exciting look three years ago that sold Falvey on his potential. Something has to change if the Twins want to have good pitching. There are a number of avenues to take and all should be under consideration: draft/development (Prielipp is promising), free agency (always risky and seemingly blocked by the Twins book), and trades. If Kirilloff returns Lopez, then maybe it is time to gamble. It doesn't look like Kepler would return very much and Larnach is a question mark right now. Going forward, Arraez looks ok at first base and the team should be able to get production somewhere to make up for the loss of AK. The Twins are in a funk because everyone knows they are vulnerable with their pitching and the batters are pinched to do too much. The good news is their lineup (when rolling): Sanchez, Arraez, Polanco, Urshela, Correa, Miranda, Kirilloff, Buxton, Kepler, and Gordon. Gray has been fine behind Ryan, but it is pretty tough to watch Bundy and Archer pitch. Those guys did alright at times but they were really a stretch from the beginning. I guess we can say an improvement on Happ and Shoemaker, right, but why is that the ceiling. The guys missing here are Winder and Ober who looked to be ready for their opportunity and instead got injured. Is Smeltzer toast? This all just means that this is Falvey Week. We shall see how he shines.
  4. Tough to know but it does seem like the current brain trust doesn't care for base-running, bunting, or sacrifices in any fashion. Even the simple details of backing up fielders seems lax. The Twins seem good at their approaches on the other hand, pitching and batting.
  5. So the general consensus puts the Twins between a rock and a hard place. They would be better off with Miranda and Kirilloff in the lineup this year. If the Twins cannot even pry away a couple of decent relief pitchers using prospects there needs to be some reflection on the talent within the farm system.
  6. I have been a huge fan of Buxton all along, for sure. Still, the Marlins may have given up Alcantara + for Byron a year ago. Still like Buxton, but the Twins need to get some relief pitchers and a bonus would be a starter. The MLB roster looks pretty solid and affords the Twins an opportunity to trade some prospects for needed players.
  7. Yup. When you don't add in the offseason you have to add during the season. The Twins could still win the AL Central without adding any players if both Cleveland and Chicago continue their lackluster seasons, but the Twins have a more difficult schedule ahead and adding some guys would certainly help. Falvey is on point right now - we shall see what he has in his hat, soon.
  8. Nothing wrong, at all, with the list. However, the Twins need a couple of decent relief pitchers and could really benefit from a starter that goes 6-7 innings too.
  9. Bundy goes 4 innings is not the best start for any teams bullpen. The Twins have a very thin relief corps. Falvey watches the games as do opposing GMs, which might make it hard to trade. Who knows if other teams even see any value additions from the Twins system. The offense is going to be under pressure to perform and I'm hoping they can perform up to outsized expectations.
  10. Many baseball fans use baseballtradevalues.com when looking to find a way to improve their team via trades. The site has low values for most Twins prospects. While I don't place much regard towards the numbers attached to the players it is very possible that more than a few teams across baseball have a similar dim view of the Twins prospects which means it might be difficult for the MN team to complete any meaningful trades. For those who value the Twins prospects quite highly and are generally opposed to the trading of the team's prospects this is good news, because perhaps nobody wants any of the minor leaguers from the Twins system.
  11. What would it take to pry away Lopez from the Orioles?
  12. I agree with this and choose to keep Polanco, Arraez, Kirilloff, Lewis, and Miranda. Let's find out what the others, some outfielders, and pitching prospects can real in this week. The Twins need at least two pitchers.
  13. Well, maybe unlikely but trade for Castillo. The hypothetical trade seems fair for both teams, the goal. Substitute Balazovic or Canterino for Winder, that's fine too.
  14. The Twins need to make consistent hard contact and Miranda, Kirilloff, Polanco, Kepler, and Correa can follow the success of Arraez in doing so, even if they are not expected to reach Luis' lofty contact status. These guys have excellent batting skills and will carry them through the season. Look for Gordon to improve as well. Bats will lead this team. Falvey needs to add at least two pitchers via trade.
  15. This was a really big pick for the Twins. Although all baseball draft choices are iffy to some degree, I can't remember the last time I felt so confident in the first two picks. Of course, unlike other sports, we will need to wait a couple of years to see Brooks Lee and Connor Prielipp.
  16. Barring a surprising trade Sano is likely to become the RH PH that replaces Garlick, despite the recent poor numbers of Miguel against LH pitching. Urshela is solid depth right now and I would be surprised if he would return a good relief pitcher. The idea makes sense. Miranda is going to get a crash course in the post season at 3B. He can play there now but does need to get better. So perhaps Urshela does draw interest now and allows for a useful return. I think Sano stays but will not be surprised by any move. The Twins need pitching and that remains the focus for this week.
  17. Sure, why not. Maybe Colorado sees Cavaco, Sabato, or Severino as fair trade. It is tough to know what the Rockies would ask in return.
  18. To be fair my handle gives my bias away. Still, as a coach and player i used various forms of maths (analytics) quite extensively since the early 1990s. Math is always useful, especially in solving problems and construction, but there is also such a thing as experience based on a multitude of factors. One-when certain players state in unequivocal terms the excellence of a player of their generation I give that some weight. This is particularly true when the player is a legend and rarely offers such praise. Tony Oliva was such a player, receiving accolades from those who seldom spoke in reverence of their opponents. Analytics have their place in baseball but they are ever evolving and should always be considered as relative to other factors.
  19. How many times did you go to games where these two players were active?
  20. False. Pete Rose fully confessed to betting on games for the record. It is history. Whether betting on games when playing and/or managing, both of which Rose did, deserves a lifetime ban can be discussed or debated. Rose did have a spectacular career, that is never in dispute.
  21. Twins offense showed up and we can hope the offense is the best in baseball going forward. The first game after the All Star game was a success and did show a need for Falvey to add a few pitchers via trades too. Ryan was fine and looked ready to exit. I am not always in agreement with the team strategies concerning pitchers but nobody should ever compare any Twin to Verlander. The Twins haven't had a pitcher capable of a decade of dominance since Blyleven. Johan was a miracle whose career merits massive praise but didn't last more than a decade. Verlander, Kershaw, Greinke, and Scherzer are special players. Ryan is having a terrific rookie season and I would suggest he has been handled well thus far.
