  1. I'm curious what initiated this post of the idea of trading Joe Ryan. That said, the Twins should always be listening. What if San Diego offered Jackson Merrill, Ethan Salas, and Dylan Lesko? But we can see that Washington is struggling with the haul they received for Juan Soto. So it becomes a question of looking at whether the Twins are capable of winning or need a rebuild. A team with Carlos Correa, Pablo Lopez, Joe Ryan, Bailey Ober, and others doesn't look on paper like such a bad team. I would not likely accept the above mythical offer from San Diego. Ryan stays.
  2. The Twins do not have any player that stands out defensively. Max Kepler is the closest but he has had a few glitches this season. On the other hand, the Twins have been pretty consistent in making the basic plays and Carlos Correa is the gold standard for turning every routine ground ball into an out.
  3. The Cardinals GM was very specific about trading for pitching. This trade has a near zero probability for multiple reasons. St. Louis wants pitching (Ober or Ryan would draw their attention), PG has a no trade clause in his contract, the Twins are at their limit financially, and AK is a part of the Twins future as well as providing value in the present.
  4. Hope to see a continuation of improved at bats and more two strike contact approaches.
  5. Pablo Lopez was originally signed by Seattle and played in their system until being traded to Miami. He never pitched for the Mariners MLB team.
  6. Just an observation - Brooks Lee looks ready for AAA. Watching his at bats this season on numerous occasions this season (milb.com), Lee has turned from softer contact to driving the ball with authority on a consistent basis. I'm not seeing his games in person and thus not fully in tune with his progress, but Lee seems ready for AAA.
  7. Good win. Luis Castillo and Seattle are a formidable task. Let's hope the Twins are geared up for Kirby tomorrow and that Pablo Lopez brings his A game.
  8. A switch hitter who can steal bases and plays everywhere has value. How much is debatable. Castro is not an elite defender, but certainly passable. He hits ok, but swings and misses a bit too much. He does seem to bear down with guys on base. A utility role seems like a viable position for Castro even though he has been in the starting lineup quite often in the past month. Mostly, these last positions on a roster are a matter of opportunity and timing. Pratto, Helman, Gordon, Martin, and Castro are all guys just looking for an opportunity. Castro has done decently with his shot.
  9. That's the beauty of all of it. Solano takes over for Julien, which is actually a step down defensively. And yet, the moves made some sense. Kepler, the man who has been discussed often as a player to drop, has a big game. The first to third was huge, setting up the lead run. Interesting game and the Twins really worked hard against Castillo, a very tough pitcher.
  10. Is Brooks Lee getting very comfortable with professional baseball? When should he expect to be pushed to AAA? Could Lee handle MLB pitching? Or do the Twins wait for Lewis to return?
  11. In another odd twist, it is Solano at second base and he does not have the range of Julien. Yet, he was the correct choice to pinch hit for Gallo. Right?
  12. So many turns in a season. Now it is Emilio Pagan to save the 8th inning.
  13. Two walks tonight on strikes. Those passed balls/ wild pitches are why it is so important to move runners to third base every chance it is possible.
  14. Farmer trying to pull outside pitches. Horrible at bat.
  15. Not for a team struggling to score, but it always is for a team struggling to get above .500. So that actually applies to both teams tonight. The sentiment is that Taylor coming to the plate in a key situation will not be favorable. I'm not going to second guess Baldelli for that decision, but I can see a possible objection.
  16. Jax needed to throws fastballs in to Suarez.
  17. Hopefully he pitches the remainder of the year like his first ten starts. You make a good point about early speculation but I'm not wanting to sign Gray for market value even if he does finish the year strong.
  18. This would have sounded way off a month ago, but Brooks Lee looks like he has figured out his swing. I mean the hesitancy seems gone and he is attacking now. 30 doubles and 10 home runs already and solid defense makes him a guy to advance soon. Can he handle MLB pitching yet? I never would have thought a month ago.
  19. I was thinking that three years and about $57 million sounds good for Sonny Gray. I do not think the Twins should be in on him.
  20. Unless I hear an interview or read a quote from Kepler, I do not believe that Kepler has a stance that he will not play centerfield.
  21. Does the scouting department choose which players the Twins pick in their drafts or is there some general guidance for types of players? I have no idea about how the Twins make their choices. Players like Rooker, Larnach, Wallner, and Sabato are fine as a part of an organization. The problem arises when the balance of types tips too heavily away from athleticism. The future of the Twins will largely depend on guys like Lewis, Lee (who dropped in lat year's draft), and Jenkins (ping pong luck) along with how the pitcher's develop. Walker Jenkins needs to reach his potential but it was the only sane choice in a year where two high school bats were identified a year ago as among the top five players to be drafted. Skenes had a big year and replaced Dollander who lost his slider among the top group, who were seen as quite separate from the rest. As always, time will tell who can make it in pro ball.
  22. .... and he looks so goofy too. But the Twins need his bat right now. Maybe he can be a DH?
