    Ok, I get it. Arozarena plays for Seattle and you like Lewis. It's all good. Side note - sure hope Correa can return soon and finish the year strong.

    It was fun to watch Dobnak twirl the ball the other night. He looks good. MLB is a really tough business though and the road to wearing the uniform is full of hazards; opportunities are scarce. The Twins have given Varland a few shots at the starting role. He struggled quite a bit early this summer, but he has been pretty good lately. Festa is clearly a rising star with mixed results thus far. Matthews is lurking with a recent resume second to none. Dobnak is in a tough situation, which is all too common for AAA players. Hopefully, Randy Dobnak can play again in the big stadiums with a noisy crowd and all eyes on his performance.

    Of course, the Twins are loaded with guys who have hit 10 postseason home runs. I don't care that the Twins didn't trade for Arozarena but he is a dude. I actually don't think the Twins will add anyone, which is fine too.

    I'm hoping to watch Matthews pitch tonight. He looks like a pitcher who can roll through a lineup. The command and control, the physical makeup, the variety of pitches, the good velocity, and the odd short delivery make him a tough at bat. Zebby has been fun to watch as he goes through the system. His consistency this year really shot him up the rankings. The Twins have to be pretty pleased with how their minor league starting pitchers have grown. Festa, Matthews, and Morris are having really good seasons. Varland seems to have made some positive growth recently. Raya pitched well last night. There are others as well, with Connor Prielipp back on the mound too. Added to the emergence of Simeon Woods Richardson, the Twins look to be in a good spot for starting pitchers.

    Some things to consider: 1) Houston has money and pay JV $12M for 2024. 2) Verlander is a difference maker. 3) There isn't really any deals like that available this year. I agree that someone like Verlander would require a loss of maybe Keaschall and .... Morris or Culpepper (SP). The ask for Snell will be less than that because he is a rental and never a sure thing. The risk associated with Snell and then a subsequent triggering of the $30M option if Blake is injured should substantially reduce his value. We shall see. As I always say, we are just guessing. I was surprised at the reasonable cost for both Puk and Arozarena. Then again, I think both of those players are good and others do not.

    Yes, but as others have pointed out there is no way Snell chooses his option. Snell is going back on the market this coming offseason. The big question is what it takes to pry him away from San Francisco.

    The focus on payroll and the owners is pointless. We know that the New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston, and maybe a few more have access to more money via their market. MLB has a different reality than the NFL, NBA, and NHL. The Twins have more than enough money allocated for their team. Falvey has the team he wanted. A reasonable trade can happen but it is entirely possible that Falvey has little interest in putting a deal together. We will see soon enough.

    There are still some players to check on but the Twins missed on two good ones already, Puk and Arozarena. I kind of doubt that Falvey is in on anyone substantial but it sure doesn't hurt to be optimistic. How about Snell? That's optimistic.

    No Miranda, hmm. Maybe the Twins want another day to decide who goes down for Miranda. Skubel pitches tomorrow which means a likely move. Hard to figure out Falvey's moves; gave up a couple of years ago. I thought it might be good to let Miranda hit today in Detroit before facing Skubel, but maybe the Twins want Jose in St. Paul a little longer and he doesn't get called up today or tomorrow. The Twins keep these things secretive.

    Hopefully the bats are great tonight and Lopez can throw a quality start or better.

    Keaschall is not a sure thing but Arizona did not give up a top 150 prospect. I have no idea why Falvey chose not to engage for Puk, but I believe the Twins could have made a better offer than what went to Miami. It could be that Falvey doesn't have much interest in making any trades at this time. It is a guessing game. One thing that everyone can agree on is that nobody knows how each team values players, either their own or other guys.

    An interesting idea - whether the Twins should think about another team and how they use/exchange/accumulate players. My thought is that the Twins need to focus solely on their own team and what weaknesses need to be addressed. The trades of A. J. Puk and Randy Arozarena did not include Top 100 prospects or even top 10 club minor leaguers. The Twins have definite thoughts on all players and it will be interesting to see whether there is a belief that an exchange of Twins guys for another team's guys will help the team in 2024.

    The role of bench bat and pinch hitter is a rare item. There are a few players who like coming off the bench to hit. Others seem to have a need to be a part of the game before they bat. It might be impossible to explain but Margot looks futile when he pinch hits and the results are glaring.

    He is a DH and was sent back by Cleveland after being taken in last winter's Rule 5. Hits a ton, similar to Severino but younger. Gabriel Gonzalez is seen as a better hitter as far as prospects go.

    My exact thoughts when I saw the news on the TB-SEA trade. I think the Twins are going to sit it out.

    Wonder if Falvey inquired on Puk. We never know how individual teams evaluate prospects from other teams but the two players going to Miami seems light. I think the Twins could have easily beat the deal that went through.

    Much ado about nothing really. The owners and front office have been quiet. Preller was following orders to go all in. The owner died, Soto was traded, and the Padres are back to the general pack more or less with payroll. FWIW, San Diego is averaging over 40,000 per game in attendance this year.

    Sands does need to show he can do it again next season but he looks pretty solid right now. Woods Richardson seems be getting comfortable with his pitches and his body type holds promise of sustained production. Next year is ways off but you can be pretty certain that Max Kepler will no longer be playing for the Twins. There will be some inexperienced players brought in and a veteran signing similar to Margot. We don't need to worry about that now though. Let us all hope that Larnach goes on a two month plus terror and that Wallner hits with some consistency.

    The needed action for a starting pitcher could easily be a combination of starts by Festa, Varland, Matthews, and Boushley. The piece missing right now is a reliable LH RP. Can we make a deal with Miami?

    The starting pitchers are all critical for the Twins in the next two plus months. Of those possibly returning to full or playable health, Correa is the most important followed by Miranda, Lewis, and Stewart. Anything positive from Topa will be a bonus. We all hope Royce Lewis can play for several months without getting injured and also hope he can put up numbers on a consistent basis. Lewis as a superstar is the dream but a stretch until such time as he can stay in the lineup. Sometimes the hype for him is just our wishes. Royce is 25 years old, has played in 94 games, and has 379 plate appearances in his career. Bobby Witt Jr. is a 24 year old superstar having played 411 games with 1777 PA. There really isn't a comparison between the two at this time but there may be in five years.

    Worrying is just wishing for bad luck. The Twins have an adequate budget for players. Falvey had multiple options last offseason and signed the players he desired. He will have another chance this offseason. In the meantime the Twins are playing decent baseball. A little health and the guys are ready to make a move on Cleveland. First things first, Detroit has a nice team and the Twins need to swat the ball around Comerica Field. Lopez, Ryan, and Ober are up. Maybe we see Miranda and Lewis too.

    Serious question. What player(s) in the Twins organization would you trade knowing that you are giving up a really good athlete in order to acquire someone that could make a difference for the Twins from now until the end of the year? Put it another way - What player in the Twins organization do you ask about when Falvey inquires about a potentially key player for the Twins for the next two plus months?

    Many of us looked to the first five games after the All Star Game as a barometer of the Twins team. I commented on this in late May. The Twins have a good team and look better than they did last season. Although many might disagree, I believe the Twins top four starters are superior to the top four from a year ago. IMHO, the Twins only need a LH RP. Correa's health and a hot hitting Miranda should settle the offense. Lewis may help as well. I'm not seeing a reason to give up any good prospects for a nominal rental starting pitcher. I also cannot see why a team within 8 games of a playoff position would deplete their team unless they received a return that is way out of balance. What would Miami want for any of their lefties? Anyone have any guesses?
