  1. You are aware that the Pohlads have nothing to do with the roster makeup, right? Signing big money deals are an obvious exception, but even then the Pohlads are not making the suggestions.
  2. Harry has been a representative milb player this year. Well, Falvey put together the team he wanted last winter and it is a good squad. The dynamics of deals didn't look good for our guys, so they just sat it out. Now it is time for the players on hand to step forward and play some baseball. Players like Festa and Dobnak get their chance. Players like Miranda, Jeffers, Larnach, Wallner, Martin, and Lewis get to prove their worth. Vets like Vazquez, Santana, Correa, Buxton, Margot, and Kepler need to lead through their play. Castro needs to continue his Twins MVP season. No time for excuses, the Twins have enough to win.
  3. While neither opposed to or in support of the Pohlad corporation, I just think the anger or frustration or whatever people feel due to the Twins inaction at this time is misplaced. Falvey and his support group are responsible for putting the roster together. I would be surprised if the Pohlads are even aware of any conversations related to trades unless it involved a large amount of money. None of the players switching teams or discussed thus far reach that bar. I am unaware myself of any specific comments made by ownership that dictates a reduction in roster expenditure this year as a result of any proposed trades. The MLB agreement with the MLBPA on shifting CBA money to teams that had media issues is completely unclear to me.
  4. Detroit should not be considering a trade of Tarik Skubel. However, Skubel is still under the arbitration system for two more seasons. A player of value for the Twins, although less so, is Royce Lewis. Lewis will also be getting more expensive but has three years of control remaining. Despite my disbelief in any Skubel deal, the type of player(s) needed to acquire such a talent would absolutely demand a huge return; a credible take. The Twins roster, as I understand it, is put together by Falvey and Levine. Ownership sets the general guidelines of the financial limits. Unlimited or large payrolls is simply not going to be a thing for the Twins. Baseball falls below football and hockey in Minnesota, which does result in some limits for the Twins economics. Falvey and company do have the resources and organizational talent (in players) to make trades. I would submit that the deadline deals made with Baltimore and Cincinnati have given Falvey pause in his considerations on how to proceed at this time. Finally, in this too long of a ramble, the inability of a player like Julien to repeat his performance from last year seems to have left doubts within the management team of depth charts. This uncertainty then makes it difficult to decide who is off limits and who can be traded. In another 8 hours we shall all know how Falvey proceeded.
  5. Isn't Witt Jr. something? The defense, speed, power, average .... he is right there with Judge and Soto. I find myself constantly switching to watch Kansas City in hopes to catch his at bats. That grand slam tonight was crazy.
  6. There are players available and Falvey has the resources to complete a trade. Will it happen? We shall know the answer soon.
  7. The Twins marketing seems less than ideal and the public relations related to "unfortunate" comments last offseason added to some poor optics regarding the off field management (owners). The two big contracts (Buxton and Correa) were surprising to many Twins fans. Those contracts likely do lend some credence to what monies are left for other players though, eventually. I don't know the Pohlads, although I met Carl years ago, and have zero interest in getting deep into how wealthy business people manipulate their clients (think public paying for stadiums). Nevertheless, Falvey has had sufficient resources to put together a competitive roster. I really struggled to understand how last offseason unfolded, but that is now well past. Currently, the Twins have numerous good players under contract and/or control via the rules tying players to a team. The organization seems to have a decent level of talent within their minor leagues. Now would be an optimal time to make a couple of trades using good players who are deep on the depth charts. I would guess that Walker Jenkins and Zeb Matthews, among players in the minor leagues, are not in consideration to trade. Maybe Luke Keaschall has risen to that status as well. There should be deals available and that duty falls to Falvey and Levine. For all the crap we read about Baldelli and his coaches, it sure seems like you nail it with your last statement.
  8. True, that the Twins are unlikely to add significantly to their payroll in the next fews. False, the Pohlads do not put the roster together or make trades. This should have been addresses to Falvine.
  9. The media money covers Snell for this season. It is a near impossibility that Snell does not return to the market. The cost may be lower than many expect.
  10. Nice to have two SP in the top ten in baseball in WHIP. Pretty clear that it is impossible to define an ace but performance game to game and over a season sure seems important to me. Ober has been exceptional this year minus his two horrific outings versus KC.
  11. Harper really was a very good baseball player. There is the iconic photo of him upended on a play at home plate.
  12. Vazquez has been a better hitter than Jeffers the last couple of months, which is saying something. Ryan is totally fighting it.
  13. Tanner Scott and Blake Snell for our Sunday evening? What I keep going to is the cost in prospects. We have seen several trades already where it seemed the cost was relatively light MIA-NYY & MIA-AZ and a recent one where the price was dear (SD-TB). It is impossible to know how other teams value the players in the Twins organization much less how the Twins order their own prospects. I would guess that there is a depth chart and thus areas where some good players could be seen as useful in a trade. Steer and CES were dealt under that model. So, what is the guess for who the Twins would dangle?
  14. The minor league reports are always what I look forward to on Twins Daily. They are excellent. These days I mostly listen to the Twins on the radio and have at least two milb games on the computer. Prielipp looked like he was toying with those Hi-A batters. In only two innings his stuff was fantastic. One well placed weak ground ball to shortstop (in the hole) was beaten out and a little lopping fly ball to right should have been easily caught for an out. Only one outing but Prielipp has stuff. I'm flummoxed at how long Emmanuel Rodriguez has been sidelined. He is missing some important development time.
  15. Miller is out - injured.
  16. Ok, I get it. Arozarena plays for Seattle and you like Lewis. It's all good. Side note - sure hope Correa can return soon and finish the year strong.
  17. It was fun to watch Dobnak twirl the ball the other night. He looks good. MLB is a really tough business though and the road to wearing the uniform is full of hazards; opportunities are scarce. The Twins have given Varland a few shots at the starting role. He struggled quite a bit early this summer, but he has been pretty good lately. Festa is clearly a rising star with mixed results thus far. Matthews is lurking with a recent resume second to none. Dobnak is in a tough situation, which is all too common for AAA players. Hopefully, Randy Dobnak can play again in the big stadiums with a noisy crowd and all eyes on his performance.
  18. Of course, the Twins are loaded with guys who have hit 10 postseason home runs. I don't care that the Twins didn't trade for Arozarena but he is a dude. I actually don't think the Twins will add anyone, which is fine too.
  19. I'm hoping to watch Matthews pitch tonight. He looks like a pitcher who can roll through a lineup. The command and control, the physical makeup, the variety of pitches, the good velocity, and the odd short delivery make him a tough at bat. Zebby has been fun to watch as he goes through the system. His consistency this year really shot him up the rankings. The Twins have to be pretty pleased with how their minor league starting pitchers have grown. Festa, Matthews, and Morris are having really good seasons. Varland seems to have made some positive growth recently. Raya pitched well last night. There are others as well, with Connor Prielipp back on the mound too. Added to the emergence of Simeon Woods Richardson, the Twins look to be in a good spot for starting pitchers.
  20. Some things to consider: 1) Houston has money and pay JV $12M for 2024. 2) Verlander is a difference maker. 3) There isn't really any deals like that available this year. I agree that someone like Verlander would require a loss of maybe Keaschall and .... Morris or Culpepper (SP). The ask for Snell will be less than that because he is a rental and never a sure thing. The risk associated with Snell and then a subsequent triggering of the $30M option if Blake is injured should substantially reduce his value. We shall see. As I always say, we are just guessing. I was surprised at the reasonable cost for both Puk and Arozarena. Then again, I think both of those players are good and others do not.
  21. Yes, but as others have pointed out there is no way Snell chooses his option. Snell is going back on the market this coming offseason. The big question is what it takes to pry him away from San Francisco.
  22. The focus on payroll and the owners is pointless. We know that the New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston, and maybe a few more have access to more money via their market. MLB has a different reality than the NFL, NBA, and NHL. The Twins have more than enough money allocated for their team. Falvey has the team he wanted. A reasonable trade can happen but it is entirely possible that Falvey has little interest in putting a deal together. We will see soon enough.
  23. There are still some players to check on but the Twins missed on two good ones already, Puk and Arozarena. I kind of doubt that Falvey is in on anyone substantial but it sure doesn't hurt to be optimistic. How about Snell? That's optimistic.
  24. No Miranda, hmm. Maybe the Twins want another day to decide who goes down for Miranda. Skubel pitches tomorrow which means a likely move. Hard to figure out Falvey's moves; gave up a couple of years ago. I thought it might be good to let Miranda hit today in Detroit before facing Skubel, but maybe the Twins want Jose in St. Paul a little longer and he doesn't get called up today or tomorrow. The Twins keep these things secretive.
