  1. Also how much would it cost to extend Pressley? He is a former rule 5 pick who is in his 5th season here. I think he may have 2 seasons till he is a FA after this one, but not a bad idea to extend him for 2 or 3 seasons for cost certainty.
  2. Also Dozier could move over to 1B if Mauer is done and Gordon could be the second baseman. Sano moving to DH most of the time. I dont see why he isnt there more already.
  3. To defend extending Dozier, I am confident he will get paid as both LA teams, Angels and Dodgers will be looking for a 2B. He can hit 25-30 HRs a season and plays over 150 games a season. I dont expect 40 HRs a season, but 25/30 is not out of the question. I am confident he will be fine through 35/36 years old. If he maintains that production he will help us win games and be high on the all time Twins career leaderboard and there is value in having players get towards the top of the board. He will definately be valuable next year which would be a big loss for our team. Also i dont think that amount hamstrings the Twins if he plays 150 games a year, even if his production is down some. Yes we have a second baseman in AAA but he can be used as a trade chip. With the payroll flexibility we have now i dont see why we wouldnt want to keep Dozier.
  4. There are several players i would sign. 1. Escobar. He needs a good 3/4 year 8-10 million per year ext. 2. Dozier. I think a 4 year 64 or 5/75 would work. 3. Berrios desrves it next. 4. Buxton for the right price with incentives for staying healthy. 5. Rosario a good 5 year one would be nice 6. Kepler 7. Pressly. He is good now and getting close to FA 8. Romero if he is this good by arbitration he will get expensive quickly.
  5. Who would we get?
  6. These first 2 pics seem like bats that can reach the majors quickly. The goal here could be to try to find a bat during our window of contention that can help. A high schooler wouldnt be up in time. While their defense wont be quite ready. I think their bats could be in 2 seasons. And saving money for a pick that falls in the draft is a bonus as well.
  7. I think the draft in 2016 may have gone a long way to giving us the minor league depth we have, but no one is up from that draft so only our minorleague system has received the boost at this point. The Twins are competetive now mostly from 2009 and 2012 draft and int signings.
  8. Biggest disappointments Polanco suspension Castro injury Mauer injury (though he has a great ave and obp) Sano injury Buxton injury Morrison slump (power numbers and walks ok but ave and obp about 50-70 points lower than ideal. Dozier slump (power numbers down just a little but ave and obp down enough the last month to be a problem) Grossman slump his obp needs to be .360 or so to be a value for the team with defense and power and average not hos strengths. He is walking more lately but he still needs to get his average to the .269-.290 range to have a useful obp. The good Escobar i hope they extend him Kepler same as last year against rhp and mashing lefties. Cool Rosario most consistant hitter???? But yeah, he is. And in a great way too. Garver the yo yo ....up and down he is holding his own and contributing Petit....WTF...who is this guy...well in 11AB or so he has a .900 OPS so he makes it as a positive.
  9. The cat is just testing your memory. Trying to help improve it is all.
  10. Mike Sixel, the trade works out for both teams. Again as long as Hughes and the draft pick deliver less than 1 WAR we win the trade.
  11. I would hate it if the savings was only 1 million or so. I dont see how this is a bad trade. Our window is now. In 5-6 years we will likely be retooling anyway. The Twins upped their budget for this season and hopefully will do so next yeargiving us even more to spend in the offseason. Lets see how this plays out before being so judgemental first.
  12. I wish my phone let me quote. Mike, with all the players who will be free agents, i imagine we will dip into free agency to resign a few, and to sign a few others, and make trades where we may take on some money.
  13. With santana off the books too that now clears over 70 million off of payroll. And buxton and sano are not doing much to deserve big pay raises, keeping payroll low again...
  14. This trade is about the next moves and not this one. I think the dislike is you need to see the next moves to better judge this one. Is another low level prospect beeter or having 8 million more now while we are in our competetive window?
  15. Also i like how its next seasons money we free up and not this seasons.
  16. The savings is 7.5 million plus .812 milliin for the pick they arent getting. I bet the Twins have a pretty good idea of about 10-20 potential picks who are likely to be available then and decided the savings was better. Remember the draft is what a week or so out. Not much scouting left to do here.
  17. Isnt a WAR around 8 million? So as long as the 74th pick and Hughes dont combine to have a net present value of a WAR its a good deal for the Twins. Remember the Pads wont get any value from that pick for 3-5 or even 6 years. Next years payroll now has very little dead weight and lots of flexibility to make maneuvers next offseason.
  18. Colon is giving up a homerun every 4 innings. His ERA will significantly climb if he gives up more hits or walks... i do hope he gets those last 4 wins he needs to be the winningest Dominican pitcher.
  19. If you do the season totals maybe a minor league monthly stat update could be posted showing the stats of each team or links to each teams stat page with some thoughts as a prelude.
  20. Odorizzi still averages about 1 HR per 5 innings pitched. Buxton in the OF helps keeps his hits down if he would walk fewer people he could be a number 2 starter here.
  21. Lynn to pen demote Rogers if his era is still over 6.00. Lynn needs to get the same speech Hughes got a few weeks ago.
  22. Health is the solution. And not taking banned substances. Those two things would give our lineup Sano, Castro, Polanco, and a Buxton who isnt rusty. Thats a lot of improvement.
