  1. Maybe Lynn can push that up a little 2/25 with option and buyout....but I imagine the Yankees might jump in on 2/20.
  2. When the other teams issued the QO, there were no draft picks assigned to them for signing them. The Twins would take into account the value of the draft pick in their offer and a discount based on the fact the player is unsigned and its spring training. It will be hard to prove collusion when the Twins made a 100 million + offer in free agency and have their highest payroll in team history. The reason the players on the market are unsigned is because of all the tanking going on. That isnt fun so I hope that is addressed in the next labor agreement. We are going into this season with basically 6 maybe 7 teams fighting for 5 playoff spots. Yanks, Redsox, Indians, Twins, Astros, Angels, and maybe Seattle. Atleast Texas and Toronto and Baltimore arent tanking.
  3. Im more concerned about the 6 runs in 2 innings Sanchez gave up today. While today is not a big deal....a few more appearances like that will be for him.
  4. I think there is enough interest in Lynn or Cobb that they can get close to the qualifying offer for a 1 year contract. Cobb was offered 42 million. I suspect that is one of his larger offers. I can see Cobb getting a 1 year 14-15 million ir 2 year 24-26 million. There are a few things to consider. 1. These pitchers all have draft picks attached so signing a 1 year deal is less favorable for teams to make that offer. But no one really wants to go 3 at their AAV rates either. I think these guys will sign a 1 year with club option or 2 year or 2 year with option. 1year is just too short unless they accept a 6-8 million offer. Another example is our own Ervin Santana who rejected the QO and signed for exactly the QO. Though you are pointing out those who signed for less. I am curious to see how this all plays out and if the Twins will decide to be one of the teams to sign a pitcher.
  5. Both offers were low ball offers. In Darvish case it was still over 100 million. I know now is the time to be shopping but i would hope the Twins would know the market a little better then that. While Logan is getting 0 interest. There is atleast interest in signing the thre remaining pitchers. I would think a 1 year 13-14 million with 1 or 2 million incentives should be an offer that can land one. I may wait a week or two before offering to see Hughes and Sanchez more. They may work as the 5th starter for a while till Hughes tires and Gonsalvez or Romero or Littell is ready to come up
  6. My concern is when there is a back injury, the pitcher favors the injury and changes mechanics adding stress to other areas....shoulder and ucl is my concern for this season.
  7. Did you ask him what is important to him in his next contract? And how much would it take to get a deal done?
  8. But i hope he stays as he could finish his next contract 2nd all time in Twins HRs.
  9. Next offseason the Angels will let Kinsler walk and have an opening at 2B. They will be able to compete for him in free agency and the Angels have a history of getting Twins in FA. Carew, Blylevin, Revere, Hunter, mudcat Grant, and more....
  10. You also have to take into account all of the negative WAR they are replacing. I dont know how much that is but league average pitching over what we got from starters 8-16 last year brings us up alot. Getting Lynn probably makes us a top 10-12 out of 30.
  11. Grossman OBP + Vargas power = Logan Morrison. With him and Aybar and Granite in camp both Grossman and Vargas have to be on the lookout. Especially Vargas since he has no positional flexibility.
  12. Sano is also already top 50 in franchise homeruns hit as well.
  13. With Buxton as our CF, Lewis could slide to LF and then nothin but rain drops falling in the OF will really hold true.
  14. I would like to see the FO sign some extentions. Buxton, Dozier, Berrios, Polanco, Escobar, maybe Sano at the all star break if he can show he is healthy, mashing, and has gropegate behind him.
  15. I think they are done with the pitching staff. It would be awesome if Cobb or Lynn fell into our lap with a 2 or 3 year 12 million per season contract though. Or even a 1 year....
  16. Well Odorizzi is moving out of the east division and into the central. That alo e will improve his FIP and x FIP. Then there is the Buxton factor as well. Odorizzi chews up innings so solid move. I forgive the front office a little for the Darvish bull**** but not entirely yet.
  17. I'd trade Kepler for Archer in a heartbeat. And I'm a big Kepler fan.
  18. The Twins could have frontloaded the contract a little. Say 25 million the first 2 years and year 3 and 4 at 21 and 5 at 18 with 6 at 16. With opt out after 2 years. If he opts out, he was worth 25 million. We get a draft pick with QO and someone else gets risk of decline years. This is most likely scenario. He doesn't opt out, he won't be as big a drag the end years because we front loaded the contract. How much spread is there between Darvish opting out and not opting out that we risk losing? I thought this FO was statistically inclined to optimal options. Also how are we afraid to go 6 years and be afraid he may be good for 6 years so we won't include an opt out?
  19. If darvish opts out in 2 years there will be a QO attached to him. He didnt have that this time around. So the Cubs dont loose if he does. They just wont have to pay for the decline years.... genius. And yes the Twins could have beat those numbers and thought they could get a deal. Instead its the Cubs. And there are 2 parts that make this upsetting. 1. We heard all winter how he was their top priority. Then to find the Team was too cheap to be under expected market contract by 20 percent. 2. Darvish still signed a way below market value contract. Based on comps should have been closer to 160 million. And Darvish was the best option by far at our most critical need during our contention window. And we were still to cheap to step up.
  20. When i go here. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/2017-18-top-50-mlb-free-agents-with-predictions.html These guys do a great job of determing likely salary based off of comps. Darvish signed for 34 million less then projected. Minnesota would know this should be close to what he should get and they said they were in it for Darvish. Obviously their offer was even lower and they didnt budge as im sure Darvish made a last lap before agreeing with the Cubs.
  21. They offered a contract they new would be beat. Thus no real effort.
  22. Because i can see what he did sign for and we could and should have easily offered that to Darvish and didnt. Meaning he was low balled and Yu took the first market rate offer he was given. Spineless to feed us BS all offseason and to lowball the offer and say...we tried.....we didnt even offer near expected market value that others were saying he should get. If course were not going to sign him and we have a spineless front office for it. If they came out and said we are offing Darvish a 6 year contract and Darvish waited for a club to match...fine Darvish didnt want to be here. But that wasnt the case. He wanted a sixth year and we all new he would ask and eventually get. And our front office new it and kept telling us a line if bull that we are all in on Darvish. SPINELESS. Ps. I dont enjoy being lied to. As a fan it makes me distrust. The front office. My distrust just jumped a lot today.
