We have one of the top pitching staffs in the AL. How is Rocco a bad manager of the pitching staff? That is one area he has actually excelled at. Now being a motivator is a good question.

Well, We traded for Floro, just got back Theilbar and Polanco, Should get Lewis back soon. We have to do something with Keuchel or not. The big struggles for this season has been the failure of Gallo, and the let down of Correa and Buxton. with improvement from these three our offense is much better overall. if we could have traded for a middle reliever that would have been nice. also a RH bat. but that's it and complaining about not doing that is nit picking. but I get it. so be heard. but realize there is no needle moving trade that was going to happen today.

Trade Deadline Rumors: Trevor Larnach Talk Heats Up
Brandon replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Tony Pham is fine for the rest of the season acquisition. If we do get him, I hope it’s for a lower level prospect. Or Larnarch with a low level prospect for Raley and Pham is ok. The Twins can be a good playoff team if the offense picks it up for the playoffs. For that to happen we need Buxton and Correa to be back to normal. Correa seems to be close…. We also need continued contributions from Kepler, Solano, Killeroff, Julien, Polanco, Jeffers and Lewis when he is healthy and back in the lineup.- 26 replies

This article is pretty accurate. I agree the Twins won’t trade their top prospects. This could be an interesting trade deadline or a big nothing burger. We will know soon one way or the other.

while he would be a nice player to trade he has earned the opportunity to work in higher leverage situations. If he continues his success, I don’t see why he couldn’t be the third, fourth or fifth reliever behind a healthy group of Duran, Jax, Brock, and Thielbar in the playoffs. There is plenty of time for him to earn that kind of ranking.

The Twins need a complementary RH bat for the line up and a reliever. They are getting callls on their LH OF bats and starting pitchers. It they trade from this depth its more likely for prospects to help add to our farm system. Maybe trade a LH bat for a reliever but unless you are trading Keuchel, you want a strong package of prospects as you are dealing from our playoff pitching staff.

The Twins Need Another Reliever
Brandon replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Bednar is a nice target but would cost a lot of prospect capital. We do have Larnarch to trade. I guess it would come down to what the Pirates need. Do they have a promising long term 2B? we have lots of 2B prospects to include too. A solid OF and a solid 2B prospect with a solid floor is a good start. I image the Pirates want some sort of pitching to plug too but not sure what I would include here.- 21 replies

I was thinking David Robert’s would be a great addition to our relievers. We would have an elite relief pitching with Duran,Jax, Robertson, Brock and Thielbar ….

Well I feel better about it knowing there is a benefit for doing so. That extra money could be planned to help pay payroll and draft and stuff. With our payroll at an all time high and draft bonus one of the highest in the league, I am not going to complain. Though if we could have signed one of the 2 last draft picks then that is a missed opportunity for us.

Thoughts on Dylan Floro trade+ Grade
Brandon commented on troyjuhn's blog entry in Depressed Twins Blog
Addition by subtraction trade. We get a reliever with more reliability and less commitment in exchange for a reliever who wasn’t getting it done here and couldn’t be counted on here. It’s a fair upgrade of a middle reliever. Because no other assets were involved I give this trade an A. It’s just not the most impactful. But still a good upgrade. -
Twins Trade Jorge Lopez to Marlins for Dylan Floro
Brandon replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Incremental improvement with addition by subtraction move. I like this one a lot. But it’s a small improvement. I just like how we are trading a problem for a bigger upside play. -

I agree with this, though I do understand the importance of going for the win and substituting players just not all the time.

Especially since we have so many more games against opponents with losing records over the ones with a winning record. We have one of the easiest schedules for the 2nd half which should help us in the standings. Because of the ease I would be surprised if we couldn’t go 35-26 to close out the season putting us at 88 wins on the season.

I just woke up when I wrote this. I think there is a better way to say this. Let’s make this a multiple article series evaluating defensive performance for the starting 9 using different defensive metrics and then bring the info together to compare defensive capabilities at the end to spark a well informed discussion on who deserves a gold glove.

Surely there is more than one stat available to use in evaluating if a player is the best in the league.

With the budget that is available on this team, there is probably not much we can do. I doubt the front office will allow the front office to take on more than 5 million in additional payroll at the deadline since we have our highest payroll ever right now. With that in mind here are the incremental improvements. I think playing Walner more in favor of who is slumping in the OF. including Taylor as Gallo or Kepler can slide over for a game or two from time to time. With Polanco coming back give Julien starts at DH in place of Buxton if he continues to slump. Also not opposed to giving him starts at 3B. Lewis will be back from the DL soon and will contribute at 3B and possibly DH. So even if we don't make trades, we have in house improvements on the way. But.... here are my trade thoughts. If we do, make a trade it needs to be a small one like a RH OF who won't add more than a few million to payroll and that is a maybe. The low-cost options include to Lane Thomas of Washington (idea from Twins Daily Article) or Tony Pham (Brock posting it and being against it). I like Boston player Turner if they take a salary back in the trade. If the Twins receive insurance on Mahle contract, then maybe trading a reliever like Pagan or Lopez would work in a Turner salary level type of trade.
