This. Their record against teams with actual winning records was well under .400. And we're supposed to be optimistic that we have a contending team? Other teams have gotten better, we haven't. Some of the teams that have improved are the teams that we rolled over this year. Teams in the division have already improved.

Interesting how things get spun. First we read how bad Vazquez is then in the next paragraph it's how good he would be for the BoSox. Be consistent. So if we trade Vazquez all of a sudden our catching situation is as bad as Boston's is. Don't get me wrong, I've never liked this signing. But without him now our catching looks very bleak. Camargo could be the backup. The team has so much confidence in him that he doesn't get to play when he is in the show.

I fully agree with your post. I do see next off season as having a quite a bit more happening. Depending on how Festa, Matthews Raya progress there will either have to be extensions of Ober and Ryan or some trades could happen. If Ryan and Ober pitch well their trade value will be very high. Secondly next off season will have the need of finding a catcher to replace Vazquez. I feel that this team is basically in place. I think the FO feels the same way. Now with all of that said, I think we'll have a decent team but I don't think this is a playoff team. We haven't improved, aside from being a year older which may help, while other teams have gotten better.

Honestly this off season has went exactly like I thought it would, for once I'm right. If they make a couple of trades they might sign a low tier FA or two. Most all of the moves will be inhouse. Not sure how anyone can be surprised.

Can The Twins Ship The Sheriff to Sacramento?
sweetmusicviola16 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With SP's getting 25-30 mil in FA that it should be very doable to move Paddack and his 7.5mil. I get Paddack isn't Fried or Evoldi. But trading for Paddack is a very low risk move for most any club. He might even payoff big time, if not it's just 7.5 in the megabucks world of baseball. With that said I can see why this calls for some patience on the part of management -
Unless two of Paddack, Vazquez and Castro are traded there is no money to sign even a Grichuk. It might take moving all three. So trading Castro for Grichuk sounds really exciting. Right? Vazquez for Camargo. Such is the state of the Twins.

Vazquez was a terrible move/signing two years ago. But based on Camargo holding a roster spot in 2024 and not playing the organization has no confidence in him. So here we are......

Other than dumping salary what do we actually gain by trading Paddock? A minor league flyer that we don't need? For 7.5 mil this is one of the lowest risks on the team. I would gamble with him and move him in late July. You never know he may give you 20 starts and 115 quality IP. If things are so tight for our ownership group that we have to be at 130mil instead of 140 mil then the Pohlads shouldn't be owning a team at all. Just my 2 cents on the trading of Paddock and Castro. Might even apply to Vazquez as well.

I concur with others, we're likely in a position of trusting what we have aside from a couple of fringe moves. It isn't just that the team collapsed late, it's also that the team fared very poorly against winning teams. We played something like .370 ball against winners. This doesn't offer me much optimism beyond being a .500 team. Soto 15/765 mil

Santana should have been MVP in '04. No argument here. Second thing that sticks out is the bias towards HR's over the last 25 years. That comes out in stats. Ichiro is one of the greatest hitters of all time. OPS+ for his career is 107. Strikeout machine Joey Gallo is 106 for his. Who would I want on my team? Suzuki. Hands down. What game would I rather see? Ichiro slapping a single or a double? Or Gallo K'ing, getting a walk or hamming a solo HR? Again easy choice.

I differ with the article, I fully expect Kiersey to be on the team as our backup CF. Actually will play a lot for the oft injured Buxton. This is one move I'm not disappointed in at all. I'mnot expecting Santana back as I believe he will be spendier than we can do. So 1B will be a revolving door with in house options. I only see Paddock as being traded. With the price of ML starting pitching he should have some value and interest.

I like the idea of Varland being in the Pen. I'd get behind this much more than another Jackson sign or the guy we got from Miami for Gordon last season. Much greater potential imo. As for Canterino and Prielipp until they can stay healthy...... Though both are great talents.
