  1. If we're talking snagging Cease I'm guessing it starts with someone like Raya or Morris. One of the two. I would say we would have to add someone to it though. Maybe someone like Doncon or Beltre. Padres would have to offer us some salary relief. Starts with Paddack I would think. Padres would need to throw in a flyer too. Edit: To me Cease is really a close comp to Burnes a year ago. Milwaukee got Joey Ortiz as the headliner. Raya or Morris would be the equivalent. DL Hall imo not very good and injured prone. So maybe the second piece could be less regarded than Doncon or Beltre. I listed them only because they have a long ways to go before an ML chance. But to get Cease one piece would have to be really good. I'd be all for it. Then get creative and add other pieces we need to get better.
  2. Trading Larnach has entered my thoughts as well. Always best to sell high. But as far as the suggested returns given here, no, We'd essentially be giving Larnach away. No need for that. I agree that Wallner is only going to get better. He had his rough 2024 start and learned something.
  3. We missed the oppurtunity to sign up C Reese McGuire. I've heard that he is pretty good at "pulling" the ball.
  4. Well Hedges put up .968 OPS in AAA. So Cartaya with his AA/AAA OPS being in the 680's might get Hedges a SS award if things continue to translate out. I hope Cartaya succeeds in ML. It would be good for him and the Twins, or for whatever team. Hope its the Twins. We need future catchers.
  5. The fact of the matter is Doc, nobody is going to trade for Vazquez and his salary, or part of it, and give us a usable ML catcher in the deal. So the best option is keeping Christian. If not we are using Camargo or Gasper as our half time C. I don't want this. I want the team better not worse. I've read in this thread that we can trade him and not be worse and not have a catastrophy. Well I believe if Camargo is the other half of the tandem we will have just that.
  6. Like it or not we need Christian Vazquez this season. Gasper- Boston moved him around. So they didn't see him as a viable MLB catcher. Perhaps he can claim a utility role and be an emergency C for the team. Jury is very much out on this though. But is he is forced into any amount of time behind the plate I see Ryan Doumit all over again. Camargo- The team gave him I believe 1 appearance at catcher last season. That doesn't spell confidence to me. Cartaya- He is a project that needs to go to St.Paul and see if he can bring his career back to life. Not a 2025 Twin. Yes Vazquez could be traded, but if we don't have money to pay him how are we going to be able to sign Diaz or McCann, the best C's left still available. And I'm not convinced that they are better than Christian. I'd prefer to take my chances with what we already have. My guess is so would our pitchers. I for one am not interested in Luke Maile
  7. Yes, Austin Hedges comes to my mind. OPS+ of 21 last season and Cleveland likes that enough to pay him 4mil next season, same as he got in 2024. Sandy Leon is a regular under 60 OPS+ guy. I will take Vazquez over either of these. Vazquez is overpaid, that is the doings of Falvey/Levine. As for Cartaya, his AA/AAA numbers translated to the ML will be Hedges like. And this is coming from someone who is very positive about acquiring Cartaya. But he is a project.
  8. I totally agree. I'm not a huge WAR fan. Myles Straw is a good example of the value of WAR imo. I value Vazquez. I believe he is the best available catcher for this team for 2025. He is overpaid by my estimation. But that is due to our FO agreeing to this overpay. But we should not be trading Vazquez unless a very good secondary plan is put into action. How I see it, if Vazquez was getting paid 6-6.5 mil this season we would have a very good catcher at a good price.
  9. Jeffers has shown over the course of his career that he should be limited to half time. Therefore the other catcher is going to need to play half the time as well.
  10. In regard to the original title of the story, trading Vazquez would be catastrophic. If the backup/s were Camargo, Cartaya and Gasper and 50% of the catching time were given to them. If Vazquez were traded and either Diaz or McCann were signed I'm thinking it would be minimal damage. If this happened the catching situation might even be slightly better. Though I hold out that the pitching staff might be slightly worse off. I actually see trading Jeffers as a better idea than Vazquez. Trade Jeffers for one of the nearly ready milb C's and let Vazquez mentor the new catcher. Or you use Duran in trade for the future and soon to be present catcher.
  11. I feel the same way. We have Joe Ryan coming back from injury. Is he ready to go full out yet? At the very least I suspect he'll be on a strict pitch count. But if he isn't ready our starting staff is Lopez, Ober, Richardson at # 3 and he has yet to prove he can consistently get into the fifth inning. Then we have Festa and Matthews. If Paddack is ever going to put it together then this is it. History also shows that guys are much better and stronger their second season after surgery. As for the trade proposals the 3rd one looks like it might have the best chance of flying, and if not the Padres another team offering a viable catching prospect like Valenzuela.
  12. Vazquez was an -0,2 WAR last season. So was he the reason the team missed the PO's last season then?
  13. Whatever he probably needs to work on is his conditioning. He's averaged like 4.2 IP for his whole career. That doesn't cut it. It taxes the BP big time even if his individual numbers are OK. Kick it up an inning would help.
  14. Today LAD is signing Kirby Yates. Yesterday Tanner Scott. I guess they are signing a bunch of guys and seeing what works. Scavengers can't be as fussy though. Zoll needs to be ringing the phone off the hook and seeing who the Dodgers will be moving to make room for the three most recent signings, including Sasaki.
  15. I'll propose a trade, that is no more ridiculus than considering playing Gasper and Cartaya. Jeffers to Seattle for Harry Ford. We throw in Julien and work any other pieces into a deal from either side to make it work. Then we expand the budget to sign Diaz or McCann to help this year. Dipota likes to deal and the Mariners need a bat. Jeffers does this for them. The Mariners still have Raleigh to catch a long with now Jeffers to catch and DH. We're going to lose Jeffers in two years anyway.
  16. Yeah CWS. They're going to stink for a couple of more years. But if they ever get a good management team in place and the support of a good owner they will become a major force. Farm system is looking really good and they have no long term bad contracts. Whoever wants to be on top of the Central should take advantage of 2025 and 26 while they can.
  17. Envision if you will a defense of Gasper at C. Miranda at 1B. Julien at 2B. Even Lewis at 3B. Larnach in LF. Kiersey in CF, the best of the bunch for D. We better be able to score 14 runs a game. Worse yet might even be is when Julien gets shifted to 1st and Miranda back to 3rd and Martin plays 2B. PU. Let's just trade Vazquez for salary relief and keep on regressing defensively.
  18. Myles Straw is a 7 WAR career player. So maybe that says a little about WAR. Vazquez is worlds better than the 3 AAA depth players we have. If Vazquez is traded then the first thing to do is sign Diaz if he's still available by then. Camargo,Gasper or Cartaya in 2025 will kill the team imo.
  19. I'm not against trading Jeffers. But yes the return would have to be a guy that is going to be ready by 2026. Hopefully late this season even. But if this was done we better darn well be right about the guy we acquire. Jeffers could be traded and we sign McCann or Diaz to tandem with Vazquez. I'm not suggesting or promoting this but it is a possible scenario. Vazquez could be traded and one of the aforementioned is signed to team with Jeffers. This could be done. But imo playing Camargo, Gasper or Cartaya in 2025 is not an option. We have a major problem actually if Feffers or Vazquez go down and we have to bring one of these up to play. Honestly we still have zero catching depth.
  20. I'm very positive about Cartaya. But he's a project. We gave up next to nothing for him. But he should by no means be looked at as a Minnesota Twin for 2025. Maybe he can benefit by working with Vazquez. Which having Cartaya in St.Paul this can happen.
  21. You don't trade Jeffers unless he brings back someone who is going to be able to catch and catch long-term. You don't trade Vazquez unless you can bring in someone who you feel will be able to fill his role adequately this season. The only FA's remaining who have any appeal at all would be McCann or Elias Diaz. You don't trade either with the idea that Gasper, Camargo or Cartaya are going to be relied on for 2025. If they are relied on we have left ourselves with a huge black hole. If they are then we are punting on 2025. I could care less about this stupid Budget scenario. Asa fan I care about winning not what kind of cheap player you can put on the roster that fits in budget.
  22. They signed LHRP Anthony Misiewicz yesterday. What more could you want?
  23. I don't see Mil doing that deal. Sea might. But we need Castro for 2025. How about if we spend even a little FA money and bring Coloumbe back? Yeah I know there is "budget," every TD article mentions it. If no money for a Coloumbe maybe we should not have resigned Topa and Tonkin.
  24. Not to mention someone will be moved for Sasaki. Make gains where you can and be the team to take advantageous of their mass surplus.
  25. Now that LAD has signed Tanner Scott for 4 years maybe Zoll could work out the next deal for who they have to move to make room for Scott.
