My own opinion on a 6 man staff. No. It will make the bottom of the rotation weaker. It will take Lopez, Ryan and Ober from being in the 180's IP to probably in the 150's IP and make them less advantageous. The theory is that they'll pitch better and longer by having an extra day of rest. But my hunch is analytics will kick into its normal gear and state that they don't do as well after 3 times through the order and still get the early shower. Leave it alone. If they do switch to the 6 man the advantages of having TOR arms will be lost. If they did expand to the 6 man then imo trade Lopez and Ober, Ryan and replace them with top bats. Losing 80-90 IP's from these guys holds no appeal to me anyway. Just my opinions.

Like. I grew up on the farm and still do farm. The old sayings can be Golden. To sum up the ending of the Twins '24 with one would be, "everything's gone haywire." And "like a bump on a log" would sum up the Twins off-season thus far pretty well.

Maybe the new owners will open up the vault and sign Sasaki after he departs the Dodgers in 6 years. That looks like a good future move.

What Is Carlos Correa's Mindset Right Now?
sweetmusicviola16 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would say with 37mil getting deposited in the bank this year that his mindset is pretty good. -
Sano for sure had weight problems. Did he have a "lack of work ethic?" I didn't see that at all. What I did see was a guy that did what he was asked to do by the organization. I don't feel bad for Miguel. He made his millions. Now he's long gone. But what is left behind is the same organizational problems.

OK, what am I missing here? The Twins have improved by 1.2 WAR. But they've added nobody. So it must be that they are better by subtraction?

When a player "fails" to develop, is it A. the player, B. the organization, C. the propaganda and hype that failed? Sadly this article mirrors the consensus, the player gets almost the entire block of blame. Kepler imo was a very valuable piece for the Twins for most of his 10 years with the team. There was marginal failure. The propaganda may be the biggest failure. In Sano's case the organization failed as much as he did, likely more so. They signed him as a SS to start. He played SS. They moved him to 3B. He played third. Sent him to LF. He went. He never became comfortable at 3B and the team couldn't see this. They told him to hit HR's, which is what he focused on. But as you mentioned he became prone to the SO because of this. The org dropped the ball but gets little of the blame for it.

I have heard the Royals connected to Kim. Who of course isn't opening day ready but when he is that would be a big boost to KC if they signed him.

I don't have a problem with either player. The problem in looking back at the career of both players for me is in the Propaganda Machine. Kepler, he produced 21 WAR and a 102 OPS+ league average bat with very good defense. He was a bargain as far as his pay went. Was he frustrating at times? Sure. But to get an overall above average player for 10 years is hard to beat. It's the propaganda that insisted he was a superstar caliber player. Max did nothing wrong here. Sano, his 2015-21 numbers in the FA world today would net him a 20mil contract. His numbers were close to those of Alonzo. I would attribute his downfall to the organization. The one that insisted that he be a 3B, and a horrible failure in LF, instead of making him a 1B from the start. I get Joe was at 1B thru '18. But Joe could have DHed more to allow Sano to take over 1B. Joe could have played some RF. This is on the org, Sano played where he was told. My bet is had he been able to focus on the bat and 1B it would have made a great difference in his offense. When all was said and done Sano owed the org nothing. They got their moneys worth out of him. The propaganda was no benefit to Sano either. Neither does it help the Kiriloff's or the Larnach's or Lee either.

I am really high on Cartaya. As a potential future project who might become a core member of the Twins future. But, if he is a member of the Twins 2025 catching tandem then we are in trouble. I'm not against a trade of Vazquez. If he is dealt, it needs to be soon, then we should sign Elias Diaz as the best option. Won't be much savings in this. If Jeffers were traded, I'm not against this either, then it needs to be done in a creative way to attain Minnesota's future and present ML catcher. Cartaya would possibly be this catchers partner in 2026. If Jeffers is traded then Vazquez stays this season. Cartaya is not ready.

This confirms what I have thought for some time now, that the 130mil budget either never truly existed or has been abandoned. When Castro was tendered this was evident. If the budget was hard he would have either been traded before being tendered or let loose. If the budget was hard you couldn't take a 6.4mil risk. Seeing Vazquez and Paddack not getting moved was further confirmation. But with that said, now that they have put out the PR I am holding them to improving the team in the next 2 and a half months before opening day. Enough talk. Put your money where your mouth is. There are still a few players left on the board, though dwindling, who could help the 2025 team win. The reality is the present team will finish under 80 wins.
-
In looking at both of these proposals, no. I'm not against trading Jeffers but we'd need to get an ML ready Catcher in return. It would likely need to be a 3 team deal then. Trade Jeffers alone then you're left with Vazquez as the starter. No.

I'm in full agreement on Eeles. Let's hope he gets a legitimate chance and that Gasper and Ford aren't given the advantage for the sole reason of they are veterans.

I could be very wrong Nick, I often am, but I thought this exercise wasn't about trade value. I thought I perceived that in the opening article. When it comes down to it Correa actually in a way has zero trade value since he has a NTC in his contract. Thanks for posting. Edit: Correa was never signed to be traded. His value isn't in trading him. His value is as an All Star caliber SS. Which after him we have no other in the organization.

I still have yet to see anyone on the list that is a greater organizational asset than Correa. And I'm not his greatest fan. But he is our top asset.

imo the market for Paddack just isn't there yet. Sasaki, Flaherty, Pivetta, Quintana, Scherzer, Heaney, Gibson, Turnbull are all still available. Flaherty and Pivetta market is different as they would require forfeiting a draft pick. Sasaki is just IFA money. as for the other five, all they require is FA cash. Why try to trade for an oft injured Paddack when you can sign an oft injured Turnbull for likely less money? My best guess is Paddack is not traded until Mid March at the earliest. Maybe even well into the season. I think teams will only look to Paddack when they see if he is healthy and as an injury replacement for their team.

A couple of deals that just happened. Royals resign Michael Lornzen for 7mil. That may explain a little of why Paddack hasn't been moved. When you can get Lorenzen for less money and give up nothing. I'd take Lornzen everyday of the week over fragile Paddack. Also, I sure would have liked to see Lux on this team over Julien. This team is what it is. What you see is probably pretty much what you'll see breaking camp. We'll have to hang out hopes on a bunch of hopefuls.

I would explore the trade avenue before I extend. He hasn't been able to handle a full load and be successful. Hence you need another catcher to share the duties. Good chance his trade value goes down from here. Anyway the team is in a budget crunch so it is a moot point anyway. My guess is what little he would agree to defer to the back of the contract is not going to help this seasons budget. And he may not have that willingness to defer at all unless it were extremely lucrative for him. Why handcuff the team further. Not happening.

Julien. Hitting went south, will he recover? Not a 2B, black hole. Call me pessimistic. SWR spot in the rank I think is fair. I probably would have left Raya out as well. He's done and proven nothing to warrant tying our wagon to him.

I don't get Correa being rated at #16 at all. imo he should be at #1. We have 120mil invested in him for the next 4 years and if he doesn't perform at that level the team can't recover from that. Yes it would sting if we don't hit on Jenkins, but that wouldn't limit the team like a Correa failure would. That is a very poor placement.

Any of them on an milb is fine. Acquiring more Gaspers and Fords is certainly one way to inspire the fan base.
