My honest opinion is we are vastly improved with Keirsey. I'd be very happy with the Castro of 2024 again, even with the late season dropoff. And yes use some of the milb depth we have to obtain a promising franchise C. We have pieces to use for this besides our top 5 prospects. We have Paddack, Julien, we can even use Vazquez. We both value Vazquez but for the right return he's very much available. We have Gabriel Gonzalez. There are other prospects that should be cashed out on instead of watching them crash and burn here. I'm one who would still like to have seen a significant FA upgrade to this team. I'm not talking Bregman or Alonso. I don't even want them here. The guy I would have liked is still available. I get that he is a risk and isn't likely available to start the season. That guy is HaSeong Kim. He would do so much to stabilize our infield. I value defense more than most. He would allow us to get some of our other infielders some time at 1B without hurting the rest of the infield. I also know the chance of this team signing Kim has about a tenth of 1% chance or less. But I'd love this move for this team. If Paddack, Vazquez and Julien were used for a legitimate catcher we would easily have the money for Kim too. Just my opinion.

I am probably one of the few but I'm not in favor of salary caps. Why should anyone be limited to what they can make? If Soto can find someone to pay him 700 and whatever million why can't he go for it? Yes these numbers boggle my mind and I can't even comprehend them. But we shouldn't be limiting anyones making as much as they can. It likely only produces other problems with a cap. My honest opinion is a bigger problem for the sport is when teams like Mia, Pit, Cin go about spending little or nothing year after year. How does a cap fix that?

So many of todays OPS crazed fanatics would have never allowed Ozzie Smith to be the greatest SS the game has ever seen because he carried a .666 career OPS and an OPS+ of 87. The next time this team finds and drafts a great SS glove I sure do hope they don't allow analytic stats to cloud their view and throw him away.

Andres Gimenez is going to make 100 million dollars over the next 5 years. Because he can flat out field. We don't know if Miller will hit as well as Gimenez. He is still developing. But to be cast away for a year of Margot???? Oh but we got Doncon!!!!

Good points. Don't forget though that when this franchise finally does draft, and well on his way to developing as a bona fide SS, they trade him to the Dodgers for Manuel Margot. And then it gets excused away because "he can't hit." Which we don't yet know if he will further develop that skill or not. I believe he will. What a waste. A kid that would have been our SS until well into the 2030's. Noah Miller. For Manuel Margot. smh

I have said the same about Falvey/Zoll. 2025 is a very big year for them. With that in mind I really do expect them to be active traders in the next two months. Not much change as far as the remaining FA market and their involvement.

Should The Twins Be Investing In The Rotation?
sweetmusicviola16 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You know Tony to be honest I don't really know. SD gave up a low top 10 and a top 25 prospect for him and a couple of flyers. They had him for most of a season at fewer dollars and he is now a one year rental himself. So the payout has to be quite a bit lower now of course. I would say something like another lower top 10 and a flyer. Maybe start with someone along the lines of Gabriel Gonzalez and one flyer in return. At 14mil Arraez too doesn't warrant an overpay, maybe the opposite. If you go much by WAR his 2024 doesn't quite match his 2025 salary. However his previous marks of being a 4WAR player would make his 2025 salary look very good. If there could be a good match on players and money, finding room for Arraez I think would be a good addition to this club.- 107 replies

Should The Twins Be Investing In The Rotation?
sweetmusicviola16 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I've laid out in the other thread on Cease what I'd be OK with giving for him. He's a great talent and I'd love to have him but not on an overpay. We have enough SP not to overpay. But I'm of the opinion that the guy we really should be pursuing off of SD is Arraez. Is he a impact bat? If you're looking for HR's obviously not. But the team doesn't need more HR hitters. It does need offense. That's what Arraez does. He wins batting titles. He smacks some doubles. He gets on base to the tune of a .375 OBP. He would give us an adequate 1B. Other than the 14mil he wouldn't come at a high price. SD needs to move him and they aren't going to recoup the prospect capital that they paid for him. Falvey/Zoll might be in a tough position with the ownership change. They need to impress in 2025. Another 82 win season might be their end here. Though I don't see Cease being traded here from SD a deal with them might just fill a lot of our needs. 1B, LHRP and a future franchise C.- 107 replies

idk, I kept my windows closed this past couple of weeks. Would've froze my *** off if I hadn't and the pipes would have frozen. Frozen pipes reminds me a bit of Zoll's first off season as GM.

Danny De Andrade still looks like a SS. But so much can happen to a player at A ball between now and then.

If you're talking our top 3 of Jenkins, Erod and Keaschell they are very much an overpay. Cease is a one year rental to the Padres. Based on last seasons Burnes to Bal trade Culpepper, Lewis and Diaw would be paying as much if not more than Baltimore did for Burnes. But I get it, watching prospects you are told are the next latest and greatest while they crash and burn is frustrating to say the least. Dylan Cease isn't available everyday, if he is now.

If you look though pretty much the entirety of the 31.4 mil will get eaten up by the arbitration cases of some 9 players. Which if the guys are receiving these raises it probably means they have done OK. You also have to hope that someone will step up to replace Castro. Matthews, Raya, Soto, etc should be able to replace Paddack easy enough. That leaves us with still needing to find a backup C. I also hope that our 1B depth is figured out soon.

If we could trade Vazquez and 3.5mil for someones milb flyer and then sign Diaz/McCann for 5mil I'm all for this. Then use the 1.5 mil to sign a player who can actually help, I'm for this. It's a risk but I think a safe enough one. If we're trading Vazquez and leaning on any of our in house options this will be a disaster. I'm good with this whether there is a Cease or not even. But Cease would be an amazing get. Get Cease and Arraez Zoll. Arraez out of your slumber.

OPS+. It's a stat. I look at it and use it. But it's just a stat. Not the only one. Baseball survived 100 years or more without OPS. We never had it. But we knew good ballplayers when we saw them. We knew Bench was a great player. Monson, Fisk. These guys could all hit even if we never used OPS. Jim Sundberg could field, we knew that. Tony Pena, Ernie Whitt, Lance Parrish could do decent at both. There's some names from the past. Sometimes stats are over used. Some of the guys I just mentioned would have never become very good to great at what they did and where they did it if we held them to modern day stats as the end all. Get Cease and Arraez.
-
I had the same thoughts about Larnach and Julien. SD does need Larnach. Twins keep Erod as they need him. SD could hope that Julien reverts back to 2023 model and if he did he's cheap and they could use him. We need Arraez back. Good calls. Cease would look amazing at Target heading the staff. New ownership would have 9 months to try to extend him. He doesn't have to be a rental for a new owner looking to make a huge splash with the fan base.
-
imo doctor Cease as a one year rental is worth pursuing. But no not at the price of most of the guys you listed. A similar deal to what Baltimore paid for Burnes last season would be Culpepper sent to SD. He would be our Joey Ortiz. Not as highly rated at the moment but his stock is rising instead of having leveled off. Someone like Winokur, Doncon or Corey Lewis would be our DL Hall. Actually any of these are better than the always injured Hall. Milwaukee also received a comp pick I believe. We would need to throw in someone to serve that. We also however do need salary relief from SD. From the rumors SD doesn't want Paddack back. The more it looks like this is not happening anyway. But it is fun thought to break up a nothing off season. But we can't at this point afford to give up Jenkins, Erod or Keschell. I do think this team should take on salary and go for a more realistic add. Arraez. He would be our 1B. We would have offense at 1B with him and an adequate glove there. I could care less that his power doesn't profile. His offense does. That is our biggest need. Gabriel Gonzalez for Arraez and they take Paddack and his salary. Or pay half of Arraez salary and we can trade Paddack elsewhere.
-
People automatically assume that Cease would be a one year rental. With new ownership coming aboard that might not be so. What bigger opening splash could Ishbia's do? Acquiring him now and extending him this season would also allow for the possibility of a bigger next off season trade of maybe Joe Ryan. Get this done Zoll.
-
I for one am very intrigued and interested that we would even discuss and consider acquiring Dylan Cease. He's one of the best SP in baseball. I too am hesitant to trade Vazquez. Not because I'm a big fan but because of the quality of depth behind him. If we traded Vazquez and could either sign Diaz/McCann or trade for another more established backup C I would expect this. Can't go into a season with Gasper as the backup C. With that as the backdrop I propose Paddack, Vazquez and Kyle DeBarge and Tanner Schobel for Cease then signing of Diaz/McCann. Emma Rodriguez? No. I'd like to see him start the year at Target. I'm also in favor of bringing Arraez back in an expanded deal. Arraez for Gabriel Gonzalez. Pads get salary relief and we get a year of Arraez for a prospect. Budget? I'm sick of the budget hogging every discussion on here. Go for it. Cease, Arraez, Rodriguez and Keaschell in a couple of months and we then have an AL WS contender for 2025.

The Minnesota Twins Are Active In the Trade Market
sweetmusicviola16 replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I would. Festa for Cease. Yes a high price for 1 year Cease. Castro for Arraez. SD gets a solid player buts gets salary relief. If the Twins would take on the salary though..... Cease and Arraez make the Twins clear Central favorites and with Cease give us a big advantage to start a PO series. Followed up by Pablo and Ober. -

I would assume there has been talk for Johan Duran as well. Some teams really still wanting a big Pen addition. I like Duran but I'm not opposed for the right guy/s. -

Castro and his 6.4 could be moved and be replaced by maybe a Kiki Hernandez or Jose Iglessias. Not flashy moves but might net us 2.5mil. Maybe. Vazquez gets moved. we pay out 4 mil of his salary. Sign Diaz for 4.5. Then Paddack is traded by paying 1.5 of his salary and pickup a prospect or something. This does net us 10 mil. I don't know if any of this happens but it would net us what we need to acquire Cease and not make the team much different. Only different pieces. idk But yes we would still have to give up a really good prospect. But if it puts us on top in 2025 it needs considering. That's the price of operating. -

And the Twins if rumors are correct need to shed as well. If a deal happens someone would need to give up their grand dream of being the poster child of budget cutting.
