  1. I seriously question whether TK had “the feels” for Jeff Reboulet in the same way that Gardy gushed over Little Nicky Punto. But I guess these two frustrated middle infielder father figures were living out their own baseball dreams through these two slightly more talented, equally “gritty” major leaguers.
  2. Another benefit for the 2023 Lollygagging Twins! Rest up down the stretch and get ready for the playoffs. Sure, give a few SVO’s to Jax, Pagan, Balazovic, whomever. Slip back into “closer by committee” until October. Guardians lost their mojo, Tigers just not there yet, White Sox at dysfunction junction, Royals trying out different pieces. The Lollygagging Twins have 40 games to play. 20-20 gets them to a division title at 83-79.
  3. The Bomba Squad is now four years gone by. Ed-DEE!, Boomstick and GarvSauce will always be wonderful summertime memories, while Sano remains in the camp of regret. As the two longest tenured Twins, Polanco and Kepler look rather unlikely to survive the process of “cost benefit analysis”. We are in bondage to Buxton and Correa and cannot free ourselves. They will need to be the ones to “provide veteran leadership”. The supporting (or leading!) cast needs to start rolling over to Lewis, Kirilloff, Julien, Wallner, Larnach, Jeffers, Lee, Martin, Walker, et. al. Of course, Polanco and Kepler could also lead us into November… then the options would be more than covered by the new round of cap and T-shirt sales! (And we’d all have a Merry Christmas 🎄)
  4. Shannon Stewart was a stone cold ballplayer who indeed turned the 2003 Twins around. One of my all time favorite Twins. Save the curse upon the church in Laodicea for the Chicago White Sox. The 2023 edition of our club may yet be clothed in white garments by the baseball gods.
  5. How wonderful to keep the faith with Joey Gallo! Wow, Thad Levine must really have a handle on who Gallo is and what kind of character he brings to the club! More seriously, “The Joey Gallo Experiment” could only have been done in Minnesota, in 2023. We are all such nice, patient and _stoic_ followers of the team that any other “fanbase” would have also given him the Bronx Cheer. Meanwhile, our division mates have indeed given us the opportunity to lollygag our way to the playoffs. Since the path to a World Series title is loaded with the sense of “if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we’d all have a Merry Christmas”, let’s add “if Joey Gallo plays like an All-Star in October and November” to the pile. (nota bene, Nick Nelson!) 😊
  6. Well, the “only sad thing” was that his teams never even won a single playoff game. 0-10 and now 0-18. No need to carry a team to a victory when “you don’t try to do too much.” Sad.
  7. You’re not really an Edhead until you’ve started an “Ed-Dee” chant from the outfield bleachers…
  8. Whatever. We have 15 games against also-rans and 13 games against playoff level teams before playing CLE on August 28. Yep, “snatched defeat from the jaws of victory” and all that, but 9-3 since the break. Win a few. Lose a few.
  9. Sonny could also decide to retire and spend more time with his family! He mentioned at the All-Star break that he had been selected three times over a ten year career - maybe time to hang it up. Nice way to put a pox on the Twins. 😜
  10. Well, we don’t really know about how many private complaints and frustrations have been voiced, either. 😜 I really don’t think Baldelli is a “player’s manager.” He seems to have a sort of emotional detachment to most things, before some switch gets tripped and he flips out. Just “Mr. Cool” until he turns into a Frankenstein, getting defensive and testy about his decisions. Has anyone ever really stated “yeah, I love playing for Rocco?” The extended argument in the dugout was bush league. Baldelli was all into Gray’s space and wouldn’t let it go. Save the posturing for after the game - or away from the cameras. Yep, the chances of Gray being back in 2024 are slim to none, with Slim getting on the railroad out of town.
  11. Looks like the AL Central winner could have the 10th best record in the league… behind everyone else but Oakland and the AL Central also-rans. The Minnesota Lollygaggers.
  12. Yep, hard to understand why you need to pull the starter after 6 IP and 78 pitches.
  13. The Guardians have fallen apart. The Tigers are doing it with smoke and mirrors. The White Sox have embraced dysfunction. The Royals are AWOL. The Twins of 2023 are going to be able to lollygag around their roster construction in June and July before trading for whatever pieces they may need in the playoffs. Relax and enjoy the view of the forest. The trees will be sorted out eventually!
  14. I’d like to see Headrick and Dobber come up for some innings. The longer relief guys in close ballgames are a helpful asset. Keep the game close and give the offense a chance while saving the high leverage guys for another day. Maybe just standard wisdom to hang onto Jax and Pagan, thinking they will turn back into their former selves. I’ve given up on following all the ins and outs of the roster as in previous years. I suppose Baldelli is indeed a “player’s manager”, giving his veterans many chances to fail before moving on to a different approach.
  15. Give me a break. Twins fans are way too stoic, accommodating and easy-to-please. Folks are happy to come to the ballpark and “support their team”, regardless of how they happen to play. We are so far removed from being Yankees fans that even to raise that comparison is weak. We need to have more of that competitive spirit, to actually provide some activity, rather than passively observe an event. Correa has said that boos in Yankee Stadium are like “fuel for the Ferrari”. If a grown man, marquee player hears the occasional outburst of discontent, I’d see it as evidence he’s playing for an engaged fanbase. 2-0, with two solid performances by Correa, since Tuesday night. Carlito left the Little Leagues a long time ago.
  16. Seems that Rocco must have gotten a directive from Manfred that Buxton, Polanco and Taylor needed to sit on Wednesday. And to be sure to leave Maeda in the game long enough to get properly hammered. “Yessir. Sorry to disrespect the Yankees by questioning German a week ago Saturday. I’ll be sure to sell my team down the river on Wednesday.”
  17. Spot on. Sure, when I looked at the April schedule and saw 7 games against NYY, I thought I’d be happy with a 4-3 outcome. Yet when Domingo German was allowed to continue his “performance of a lifetime” after the Twins had taken the first two games in the Bronx (and our manager was ejected), the Twins needed to add extra emphasis to this series. Save the second teamers for KC. Bring the heat and the pain each and every day to the Yankees. The series was not ordinary April baseball… set aside the “it’s a marathon, not a sprint BS” for later and take care of business in your own stadium. The Yankees have humiliated the Twins for so, so many years. When you have a chance to go for the sweep, you lay it out for the day game too. Rocco did not have the character or cojones to take down the Bombers. Sad.
  18. I also refuse to recognize the Yankee “win” from last Saturday. Domingo needed to be tossed, but the boys in blue were too timid to stand up to Boonie’s “Animals” (😂) and the fans in the Bronx Zoo. A turnabout on the pitcher’s “performance of a lifetime” would make a sweep even sweeter. 5-1 on the season series - the mega millionaire Cole beat us fair and square.
  19. The definition of “ace” that I prefer is the starter who will put an end to a losing streak. For this week, it’s _Bailey Ober_! 😂😉😃
  20. Down 3-2 in the bottom of the 9th, no outs, runners on first and second? Yeah, back in the 70’s you’d lay down a sacrifice bunt… seemed to work then!
  21. Tip your cap to the mega millionaire Gerrit Cole today. He shut us out, no question. We can deal with being beaten by a superior performance. I refuse to recognize the loss on Saturday as a valid baseball game. Let it be understood that the Twins took the series, two games to one. May the Rays, Blue Jays and Orioles overcome this false “victor-hoy”. And may the Twins not need it against the Clevelanders.
  22. WOW! That’s our signature win for the month… to stick it to those blessed Yankees in their own ballpark. “Next man up” will be Louie Varland. He pitched well on 9/7/22 in his MLB debut at Yankee Stadium. I’d be delighted with a repeat of 5.1 IP and 2 ER. A rested bullpen and a renewed offense can take it from there!
  23. Every team wins 60 games and loses 60 games. What each team does in the other 42 makes all the difference!
  24. “He Who Shall Not Be Named” is The Failed Closer, not The Proven Closer… 31 saves in 6 years is just from a hodgepodge of opportunities and a few completions. I do wish to vouch for Cory Provus and his own honesty in the booth - at the end of that no good, terrible, very bad series in Cleveland in _July_ (as opposed to September), upon yet another walk-off delivered by Our Guy, - Cory let us all know, “And I’m Going to PUKE!” Twins baseball 2022. Good times.
