  1. Harsh. He was the second best hitter on the team, behind Cruz. And the best defensive infielder on the team. Not really fair to ding him for the injuries when so many other guys were injured in this weird season. I'd grade the Odo signing at least as bad by your criteria. When he pitched, he wasn't good. At least when Donaldson played he was effective.
  2. Huh. Definitely surprising. Sano has a nagging injury, so maybe he plays some at first. Otherwise, an upgrade over anyone on the bench to pinch hit.
  3. 2nd paragraph should be "dominant" instead of dominate.
  4. Remember when we beat Bieber and Plesac just a short time ago?
  5. Ryu has been very good. Maeda has more innings, more K's, a lower whip and ERA, but Ryu has a higher war (probably bc of facing better division); Ryu is 4-1 with a 3.0 ERA. They're about the same age. Of course, Maeda is much, much cheaper and doesn't have an injury history like Ryu.
  6. The Yankees also did nothing. This was definitely a different trade deadline, with only a couple teams making significant moves. It's 2020. This year is different.
  7. Blankenship? Are you a running fan? Ben Blankenship is a former gopher, sub 4 miler and pro 1500 meter runner. I can infer you mean Travis Blankenhorn.
  8. How are the Angels so incredibly awful with Rendon and Trout and LaStella all hitting? Cruz is out of HOF discussion because of the PED positive anyway, but does a theoretical triple crown this year +an mvp and a productive year next year vault him into fringe category? He doesn't have 500 hr's or 2000 hits but both are possible.
  9. I was thinking this as well. There will be some teams, like the Rangers, Giants, Phillies, where if I was the GM I'm trying to play for future full seasons where there's no doubt the playoffs will actually finish. Why buy for this year when there's a chance half your team could get COVID 19? I'd sell if I can, even if I think we might be in the expanded playoffs. Unless you think your team is a definitive world series contender this year, sell. There is so much uncertainty.
  10. More innings, better WHIP, more strikeouts I'd guess.
  11. Mine would go to Cruz, but both Maeda and Dobnak have been elite. Maeda has been untouchable for multiple innings at a time. I'm more than surprised at how well he just knows how to pitch.
  12. For what it's worth, Duran worked out in Fort Myers during quarantine with Polanco and Arraez, and Arraez said he was throwing gas and was every bit as good as other MLB arms.
  13. When are we going to see Duran make a start?
  14. I'm pleased with the record and run differential; we have the same record as the Yankees. I'm not worried about Garver or Sano starting slow either. They're good major league hitters and will adjust. What concerns me is the players who are already on the IL, especially in the rotation. Already there is way too much reliance on the bullpen with consecutive short starts. However, starting pitching injuries in particular seem to be happening all across MLB.
  15. I would definitely not prefer Rooker, Kiriloff or Larnach to make their debut this season. If that occurs, something bad has happened. Wade needs some AB's but Cave has not played himself out of the lineup.
  16. I've been really impressed with Avila's defense and pitch calling as well. He's a good framer back there.
  17. Hmm. Buxton back out of the lineup. Interesting with Kepler also getting a day off.
  18. White Sox and Rangers off to rough starts. Gibson looked pretty good for Tex though.
  19. Does Bauer count? I have a feeling he might be a Twin. He's arguably the best free agent starter at the end of this season. Pickings are thinner than last year. Stroman? Robbie Ray? Chris Archer? Paxton? Odorizzi? Mike Minor? Corey Kluber? Kluber should be cheap after missing most of 2019 and looks like he'll miss all/most of 2020 too.
  20. my educated guess would be service time consideration. That or they really wanted another Aussie to keep Thorpe company?
  21. Depth: there are 6 guys on the team who have received MVP votes. Last year, there were five. Cruz, Polanco, Rosie, Kepler and Donaldson. However, Buxton received mvp votes in '17 with an OPS+ of 93. Just let that sink in. He was a 5 War player who hit worse than the league average hitter.
  22. Buxton has the highest ceiling of anybody on the team. His (healthy) presence changes the team so much. But this discussion shows just how deep the team is. No 8 war guys, but a bunch of 4-5 War guys.
  23. Hmm. Well it's not a poor mans version because all five of those starters in Tex are on big contracts. No question marks with Berrios either. But yes, not really sure what we're going to get from Hill or Bailey or Maeda. Hill, Maeda and Bailey are all on cheap deals though.
  24. Kluber, Lynn, Mike Minor, Kyle Gibson and Jordan Lyles is interesting. They could be really good, or they could be really awful, or have injury issues. Only one of those guys is under 30 (Lyles is 29). Lots of question marks. I love Gibby and hope he shoves. I kinda expect him to do well honestly; his stuff is just too good.
  25. That post didn't age well. Still, he is the x factor and probably the team's MVP if he plays 50 games and bats like he did last year.
