  1. More innings, better WHIP, more strikeouts I'd guess.
  2. Mine would go to Cruz, but both Maeda and Dobnak have been elite. Maeda has been untouchable for multiple innings at a time. I'm more than surprised at how well he just knows how to pitch.
  3. For what it's worth, Duran worked out in Fort Myers during quarantine with Polanco and Arraez, and Arraez said he was throwing gas and was every bit as good as other MLB arms.
  4. When are we going to see Duran make a start?
  5. I'm pleased with the record and run differential; we have the same record as the Yankees. I'm not worried about Garver or Sano starting slow either. They're good major league hitters and will adjust. What concerns me is the players who are already on the IL, especially in the rotation. Already there is way too much reliance on the bullpen with consecutive short starts. However, starting pitching injuries in particular seem to be happening all across MLB.
  6. I would definitely not prefer Rooker, Kiriloff or Larnach to make their debut this season. If that occurs, something bad has happened. Wade needs some AB's but Cave has not played himself out of the lineup.
  7. I've been really impressed with Avila's defense and pitch calling as well. He's a good framer back there.
  8. Hmm. Buxton back out of the lineup. Interesting with Kepler also getting a day off.
  9. White Sox and Rangers off to rough starts. Gibson looked pretty good for Tex though.
  10. Does Bauer count? I have a feeling he might be a Twin. He's arguably the best free agent starter at the end of this season. Pickings are thinner than last year. Stroman? Robbie Ray? Chris Archer? Paxton? Odorizzi? Mike Minor? Corey Kluber? Kluber should be cheap after missing most of 2019 and looks like he'll miss all/most of 2020 too.
  11. my educated guess would be service time consideration. That or they really wanted another Aussie to keep Thorpe company?
  12. Depth: there are 6 guys on the team who have received MVP votes. Last year, there were five. Cruz, Polanco, Rosie, Kepler and Donaldson. However, Buxton received mvp votes in '17 with an OPS+ of 93. Just let that sink in. He was a 5 War player who hit worse than the league average hitter.
  13. Buxton has the highest ceiling of anybody on the team. His (healthy) presence changes the team so much. But this discussion shows just how deep the team is. No 8 war guys, but a bunch of 4-5 War guys.
  14. Hmm. Well it's not a poor mans version because all five of those starters in Tex are on big contracts. No question marks with Berrios either. But yes, not really sure what we're going to get from Hill or Bailey or Maeda. Hill, Maeda and Bailey are all on cheap deals though.
  15. Kluber, Lynn, Mike Minor, Kyle Gibson and Jordan Lyles is interesting. They could be really good, or they could be really awful, or have injury issues. Only one of those guys is under 30 (Lyles is 29). Lots of question marks. I love Gibby and hope he shoves. I kinda expect him to do well honestly; his stuff is just too good.
  16. That post didn't age well. Still, he is the x factor and probably the team's MVP if he plays 50 games and bats like he did last year.
  17. As much as I love Max, have to disagree here. Through four seasons he's been barely an above average hitter, and he's already 27. He was arguably the team MVP last year though. (I would go Cruz but you could make the argument)
  18. I think the consensus is that Tatis and Bogaerts will also be better than Polanco this year. Semien was an absolute monster last year. I don't see Polanco taking that step but hope I'm wrong. There are a lot of elite shortstops in the A.L. right now. Tim Anderson is really good too.
  19. Buxton is too low. He could very easily lead the team in WAR.
  20. Course there were hardly any tests back in March. Now testing is widely available.
  21. You're going to take Cruz, our best hitter, out of the lineup? Garver himself stated he'd like to catch 40-45 games. I wouldn't want to take Sano out of the lineup either.
  22. Agree that Kiriloff has the highest ceiling of the options, including Marwin. Then Rooker. I think it's notable that Wiel received a lot of ST AB's. I recall he hit well in spring training as well but that probably means nothing. I doubt any prospects will receive regular at bats this season though, as others have stated. If that happens, there have been lots of positive tests and likely MLB would shut the season down at that point.
  23. I'm glad we have veteran guys with postseason experience and a history of doing well in the postseason. (Donaldson, Cruz, Clippard, Romo) This season will feel like a September game where the standings are tight, the whole 60 games. I like the Twins chances on paper, how can you not?
  24. Revisiting this thread because someone on instagram, as well as the general consensus, says Scherzer should be in the HOF if he retired today. If he retired today I think he's an interesting Santana comp. Through their best seven seasons, guess who had the better era+? Johan. Innings pitched are almost equal, but Scherzer had a better WHIP and more strikeouts. I'll concede that Scherzer's resume is better, plus he has postseason cred. He also has higher counting stats overall but their peaks are not that different if you give Santana the 2006 Cy he deserved. Both 3 Cy youngs. Scherzer had 7 straight years of top 5 in Cy young voting. Johan had 6/7 years where he was top 7. Oh, and I agree- Scherzer should be in if he retires today. There's no way he shouldn't be in.
  25. Also, through 11 starts another Twins pitcher was 7-1 with a 2.95 ERA. His name is Martin Perez. I guess that's exhibit A of what a small sample size 60 games is and how regression to the mean may not necessarily happen in 60 games. Hey, maybe Luis Arraez will hit .400 for the season.
