  1. If you look at when guys get in, the usual is 1st ballot, like Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Ken Griffey Jr. If you're not first ballot, then you get in the second year. Like Guerrero or Carlton Fisk. If you're not second, you get in the third year, or you have to wait until your final year of eligibility. I agree we could reduce the # of years guys are on the ballot, but only if you can vote for more than 10 players. Often there is a logjam and a deserving player has to wait for other more deserving players to get in until there's a lean year, then he gets in (Larry Walker). There was no Larry Walker on this years' ballot. I wouldn't have voted for Vizquel because he's a poor hitter, only has 45 WAR despite playing forever, and isn't in the same defensive realm as Ozzie Smith or Andrelton Simmons.
  2. Agreed. My stance on PED users has changed over time. Initially I wouldn't have voted for any of them, suspected or not. Since Bud Selig is in there now, and Piazza, and Pudge, and everybody is going to vote for Ortiz, why not put Sosa in? Sosa's PED suspicion is the exact same as Big Papi. The league wasn't enforcing it at all. There was no testing. We don't even know what Sosa tested positive for. As for Schilling, I hate both the press he is getting, because it's not about his accomplishments on the baseball field, and the fact that he's an obvious HOF'er and won't be voted in by the writers because they don't like him personally. I don't like him personally either, but I would vote for him because he's a huge part of baseball in the 2000's, especially the postseason.
  3. Compared to what Marcus Semien got, this signing is a steal.
  4. Moose could replace Arraez's offense at 2b. Completely different type of hitter but he would fit in with Twins clubhouse. Both are average at best defensively. Don't need Castellanos with our abundance of corner outfielders and first basemen. Arraez for Moustakas and Gray would easily get the job done if the Twins are concerned about Arraez's knees long term. I'd do that. Makes the team better in 2021 and 2022.
  5. Semien really only had that one good year, in 2019. The other years were all consistently average. However, 2019 was a legitimate MVP year from him, something the Twins have not had since 2009 Mauer. Not sure I'm a believer in Semien or not. Depends what the cost is, but he might be a nice low risk high potential reward signing.
  6. Story is an absolute stud, but I wouldn't give up a lot for a 1 year rental. The home/road splits for Colorado players are more stark than other ballparks because it's dang hard to adjust for seeing balls at elevation vs sea level. Sliders break different at sea level than they do at 5300ft. Plus, sleeping and recovery are difficult when you're constantly going from elevation back down to sea level and back to elevation. If you're high level athlete playing and performing every day, recovery matters a ton. Ask Arenado or Blackmon. It's not so much the field dimensions or the ball carrying further in the air as it is all the other stuff.
  7. I'm so ticked about the TV deals, as a former dish network and former youtube tv subscriber. I would gladly pay mlb 15/month just to watch the Twins, but of course I can't. (without using a vpn workaround) I also can't see highlights trending on twitter, IG or facebook. It's like MLB is trying to keep baseball from being popular with millennials and gen z.
  8. You don't own a sports franchise as the best or wisest way to make money. You own a sports franchise because you want to own a sports franchise. Sure, making money could and should be a secondary concern, but like you said, there are better ways to securely make more money. That said, if you want to own a sports franchise, I don't understand when owners don't have fun with it. Don't be a cheapskate and make it all about making money. It does seem that the Pohlads (this generation) are having fun with it and running the organization the right way, from what I can see. If they only cared about making $ they wouldn't have paid employees who weren't working during the pandemic.
  9. I'd love Bauer but I'd bet he goes to the Mets, Angels, or Padres. Would pass on Simmons. The bat is too light for someone playing every day
  10. I'm close to 100% sure Cruz will still hit at a high level for the next two years. I'm about 50% sure he can actually stay healthy and play 80% of games for the next two years. He would be a very expensive coach at that point. I see why the Twins are smart to wait. But go ahead and get some other help in the meantime, which I think the Twins will do. Get one more starter and 2-3 bullpen guys.
  11. Bauer has stated he wants to pitch every fourth day.
  12. I love Jose, but this isn't even a close comparison. Bauer has deservedly won one Cy young and finished 6th another year. Berrios has never received Cy Young votes. Bauer was very good in 2017 and 2018; he's not a two month wonder. Berrios is a solid #2 or very good #3 rotation option. Bauer is an ace. Both are very durable and pitch lots of innings.
  13. The mets have been a dysfunctional franchise for most of my fandom years. Does a new owner change all of that? I don't see the Mets as a WS contender in 2021. If I were Bauer I would not go there but NYC is a great opportunity to promote his brand.
  14. Good to know. That's a lot to give up for one season of Lance Lynn.
  15. Twins won. Smeltzer has already given the big league club more value than half a season of Dozier, who has been downright bad ever since he left the Twins. I really liked Doz, but the Twins were smart to trade him and get something of value.
  16. If the Twins use someone already in the organization for the utility/Marwin role, it will be Travis Blankenhorn or Nick Gordon, not Royce Lewis. Gordon can play SS. Lewis has played what, 40 games above A ball? Not mlb ready.
  17. Easy. Tony Oliva. Well, Mauer would be in that discussion as well but I think he'll get in.
  18. I'd go with no, yes, and ....yes?
  19. Story is an absolute 2 way star, but do you really want to give up Berrios, Arraez or Kiriloff to get one year of Trevor Story (at 14 million)? He's a FA after 2021.
  20. I don't know, I was pretty pumped when the Twins signed him but I thought he had his calf issues figured out. When he played, he was as good as expected. I fully expect him to be the leader of this team when Cruz is gone.
  21. Bauer will be way more than 30 million unless we're signing him to a 6 year/180 million dollar deal, which I highly doubt he would accept. Would you offer him 1 year at 43 million?
  22. Bauer is certainly going to require more than 30-35 mil if he takes a one year deal. There are probably ten teams that will offer him more than that. 43 mil for a one year deal seems about right. You want the Twins to offer that?
  23. Donaldson's contract definitely has negative value at this point.
  24. I appreciated Jake's comments after the game, but also got the underlying messages that he is sorry for the fans, sorry that he could not help this year, and sorry to see the organization fail again. This was the most excited I've ever been for a mlb season. I went to five ST games. Spent way too much time on Twinsdaily and the athletic. Now I'm realizing I should probably not be so attached to this team.
  25. Buxton is OPS'ing over 1.000 in September. He needs to be at the top of the lineup, period. Polanco looks to be playing hurt. He's been a below average hitter this year after receiving MVP votes last year, something's not right. Maybe he really has been hurt by no video in the dugout.
