  1. Pretty good synopsis. I had no idea the FIP's of our bullpen arms are currently that bad. Two bullpen arms, maybe a starter better than Archer. OR, Pagan and Duffey suddenly turn it around and become trusted relievers again, and the Twins feel confident enough in Archer or Smeltzer to get them through the lineup twice in the playoffs and the Twins do nothing at the deadline.
  2. Yeah Miranda is hitting well currently. Urshela and Larnach and Kepler are struggling recently but I wouldn't send any of those three guys down right now to bring up AK. Maybe if Larnach is still struggling two weeks from now and AK is still raking?
  3. Yeah Carew probably had more steals of home in a season than Arraez had total steals of any base in one season.
  4. Here's how you measure. It's not subjective. Jeffers is top ten among 60 qualified catchers. Sanchez is 28th. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/catcher_framing?year=2022&team=&min=q&type=catcher&sort=4,1
  5. He's a FA at the end of this year! We could sign him for only money! For real though, he's been basically the equivalent of Chris Archer this year. Not terrible, and useful to eat innings and keep you in games, but not a needle mover or a guy you want starting a playoff game.
  6. You're being old school. Baldelli manages pitchers the same way every other manager in the game manages pitchers. In fact, the Twins leave starters in slightly longer than league average. I think his primary impact on the team has to do with clubhouse chemistry. He's not a yell in your face, motivate by telling you how much you suck type guy. He encourages players, has their backs, and puts them in spots to succeed. He also has confidence (false or not) that they will succeed. That does go a long way in knowing hey, the manager believes in my skills, my role, and here's what I need to do to get better and help the team win. For how much the Twins have been banged up, he's done a pretty good job managing who can pitch when, who can play where, etc. The Twins have already had to go what, 14 starters deep? Top 4 starters are ALL unavailable right now and the team is still in first place.
  7. He's leading the team in doubles. That's certainly unexpected.
  8. AK is a much better 1B than Arraez or Miranda. I'd assume the Twins would DH arraez instead of Kirilloff. Keep Arraez's bum knees healthier too.
  9. Yeah...looking at his underlying data I'd say he regresses. I doubt he'll receive Cy Young votes.
  10. The location data is interesting. I also wonder why the demographics of this site, as opposed to the Athletic, ST PPP, Strib, KFAN, seems to be older and more out-state?
  11. I agree with you that it's pretty much baseless and frustrating. But I have elderly relatives in Brookings and Sioux Falls, and they said they won't go to their typical 2-3 Twins games this year because of their perceived crime risk. I think it's pretty much all coming from people who haven't actually been to Minneapolis in years.
  12. I go to 4-8 games/month. I'd say the main reasons for low attendance, in order: 1.The weather has been awful. Really cold and wet April. Heck, even yesterday it was cold. It was like 35 degrees the whole Dodgers series. 2. The team sucked last year. 3. It's very difficult to watch the Twins games. (most people don't have cable or directv and the blackouts...) 4. There are a number of people who either are afraid to go downtown or don't want to support downtown businesses 5. People are afraid of covid and still not really traveling to places with large crowds of maskless people. 6. Casual fans don't go to games until school gets out and the weather gets nice, regardless of how good the team is. Most game attenders are casual fans who have no idea the lockout even happened. Most casual fans have no idea offense is way down across the league.
  13. I'd have PNC park, T-Mobile, Fenway, Target Field, Busch Stadium, Oracle, Kauffman and Coors field ahead of Wrigley. Wrigley is a dump. One game I was there it only smelled like beer and urine.
  14. Where is Yasmani Grandal? How much is CWS paying him again? Interesting that Jeffers is higher than Sanchez and both are higher than Garver.
  15. Urshela is under team control for 2023 as well. Sanchez is only for 2022, maybe that's what you're thinking.
  16. Right. If Garver was hitting like Johnny Bench it would make it feel worse. But like all the Rangers hitters, he is struggling big-time.
  17. To be honest it's clear he put in some work this offseason. He didn't go back to the DR, stayed in Florida with a trainer, and got himself in great shape, and even had a solid spring. I expected he'd be good as it's a contract year, or at least make the buyout decision interesting. He may be ready to play by late July or August, but I hope the Twins don't consider bringing him back next year. Maybe he needs a change of scenery. Or to follow Cruz. Neither a boom or a bust, but closer to a boom. He was drafted as a teenager, made the majors, and was an all-star. 8 career WAR. Definitely better than a lot of top prospects. I mean, is Nick Gordon going to have 8 career WAR?
  18. Oof, Verlander, Urquidy, Bieber, McKenzie, Plesac? We might score 5 runs this week.
  19. Rosenthal's recent article in the Athletic said it's the lowest in 2022 as it has been since 2018. It's right around 1.1 percent. Last year it was slightly higher, 1.3 percent. It's up since the 1980's though.
  20. I've watched several Saints games and Twins ST games and even Ft. Myers miracle games to see Lewis in person. I'm not a baseball scout, but I've watched plenty of shortstops. I don't agree with the "he can't stick at SS" narrative. Lewis has far less shortcomings at SS than Polanco or Gordon. Arm strength, instincts, speed, it's all there. His hands aren't quite as good as Simmons or Correa but that's a pretty high bar to clear. Hopefully he proves the doubters wrong here with a few games as an MLB shortstop.
  21. Larnach and Kiriloff also need to play every day and Larnach is hitting and playing a capable LF. The only reason Royce would stay at SS for the Twins July-Aug-Sept is if the Twins are awful when Correa comes back so they sell at the deadline and trade Correa. Hopefully he goes back to St. Paul.
  22. Yikes, depth is certainly going to be tested already. I wouldn't have a problem with Smeltzer making a start but he's not on the 40 man so I'd prefer not to bump anyone else off. We will need Godoy later in the year.
  23. TBH, if he pitches himself out of the rotation, I'd rather just cut him. Who do you bump from the long relief role in the bullpen currently? I'd rather have Winder Archer Ober or Jax in that role. Then you have Sands also on the 40man, and Smeltzer pitching really well at AAA.
  24. Gio is a way better third baseman defensively than Arraez or Miranda, so unless he stops hitting, Gio will be playing third and Arraez or Miranda will play first.
