  1. Simply tells me our managers, manager of the year trophy was earned ..
  2. Potentially having to learn how to say his name makes me want to trade him For now, I'm going to pretend he isn't on our team and hope to be surprised in the future. 38% strike out ratio? To have a hit tool don't you first have to hit the ball. The best way to judge whether we made a good pick at #13 is to see how picks 14-18 develop.
  3. Ten million dollars for Luke is a good deal considering he probably wouldn't have been a fixture in our outfield anyway. Also is another indicator of how well the trades from two years ago have paid off. It will be interesting to see who we get as the player to be named later although the odds of that player making the big leagues is probably remote. Does everyone enjoy following our minor league box scores nightly like I do? It's really a great way to cap off the day before turning in. If some of you haven't tried it here is a good link to easily check .. http://www.startribune.com/daily-updates-twins-minor-league-results-player-statistics/299332361/ Cheers!
  4. You can never make a good trade (in any business) unless you are willing to walk away.
  5. I don't think nightmare is the right word to use. Maybe good or adequate. Or better than against left handers. I did enjoy the states however but refuse to think of Maeda as not to jink the trade. Although I would be fine if the trade did not go through. If I were the Twins I would only offer up a top 20 prospect if they really want to make the trade but I would simply say, take it or leave it ..
  6. What's your solution, cut Cruz, Donaldson, Garver and Sano ...or trade them for left handed batters ..
  7. 5 years for 75 mill would be worth it .. That's probably what he would get paid if he was a free agent this year. But the only reason I would pay it is because our starting pitching staff is our achilles heel right now.
  8. There is NO RISK associated with this move. If he doesn't revert to form in spring training he's gone. This is like throwing as many starting pitchers up against to wall to see what sticks ..
  9. If my math is correct he just turned 22. I too ave high hopes for the kid but feel he needs to master AA before we can even think about him in the majors. My guess is that he will not be a factor with the Twins this year and possibly not until late next year but that's okay with me. I don't think there is any need to rush him ..
  10. One more thing since we don't know whether the ball will be juiced or not is how many home runs we hit vs the top home run teams in the league. You wouldn't need to project the whole league. Probably just about 4 other teams
  11. I really like the way you did it by position instead of player Andrew. But you forgot pitchers batting in National League games
  12. Yes, these statistics show great potential. BUT, the only way he can realize his potential is to stay on the field. YES, he might make 5 or so fewer catched is he plays it safe at the wall like say, Max Kepler. This Tori Hunter macho attitude about catching ball is brave but even Tori stopped being so aggressive later in his career. Why can't Tori impart his experience to Buxton and shorten this process. So, my point is, what is more detrimental to the Twins and Buxton's career. Giving up 5 catches per year or making those 5 catches and spending half the year on the bench. Remember, those five attempts only present themselves because of Buxton's phenomenal speed. Any replacement not only would never HAVE an opportunity to make those five attempts but due to elite speed will not make the 20 or more catches Bryon MAKES because of speed. Buxton needs to let balls go that require him to run into the wall at high speed. Remember, the faster you run the harder the hit. No one in baseball can run into a wall harder than Bryon. This is precisely why he SHOULD NOT run into the wall at higher speed than anyone else in baseball could ever do. Only Buxton can decide whether he wants the stay on the field the majority of the year to help the Twins. How many times have we heard that the Twins have a higher winning percentage with Buxton on the field. Let's hope that Bryon makes a consensus decision to limit the chances of injury's not only for the benefit of the Twins but his chances to ever play enough innings to potentially be the Hall of Fame candidate his skill set may allow.
  13. The whole world knew it was only a matter of time.
  14. Signing an extension is like taking out insurance. Some people are risk averse and some people aren't .. There is nothing that obligates Berios to signing now vs banking on the come. If the Twins weren't trying to sign him to a longer deal I would be upset but they are so can't get upset at either Berios or the front office. We as fans can want it to happen but we as fans have no say over the matter.
  15. Donaldson is the best third basemen the Twins have had since Harmon Killebrew and that was a long, long, time ago .. I'm down with it ..
  16. Come on guys. They are only $400,000 apart. This is not a crisis. They will get it done. But my hope is they get an extension done. Those are the numbers I'm interested in. What is Berrios asking?
  17. Funny, not sure why but I went through the same exercise a couple days ago and came up with the same answer. Arraez it is!!!
  18. We need to make room for Kirilloff and Larnach in the outfield possibly by next year but then where will Sano eventually land? Too early for DH ... Fun to have options though
  19. Seems like management has made a conscious decision to leave Krillof, Lewis, Larnach, Rooker, Duran Balazovic Gordon and Jeffers. in the minors to ripen making sure they are MLB ready when they come up next year and fill the holes with veterans. But other than a potential acquisition of Donaldson (which I give only a 20% chance at best). The fact we can't get top tier talent to sign with us leads me to believe we are better off with developing the team from within where the players have no choice and are under team control for years. It also makes me believe that next year, although promising, is not going to be our year to break through which I'm fine with. We still only have tow starting pitchers signed for 2021 and one through 2022. Probably an open position at first base. In 2021 Andriansa, Austudilla, Avilla and Cave are all expendable and Gonzalez' contract will run out. That's 5 open slots that can be filled by Krillof, Larnach, Jeffers, Lewis and either Rookers or Gordon. And 3 open starting pitching spots for Graterol, Balazovic and Duran with possibly Acala for the bullpen. That would be a dramatically different team with the potential to break the glass ceiling in say, 2022. I hope this is the long term plan as I for one am willing to wait for it to play out. Taking down a team like the Yankees is no small task and to think we are ready next year I think is wishful thinking.
  20. Randy Dobnak, Lewis Thorpe, and Devin Smetzler are just placeholders waiting for Graterol, Jhoan Duran, and Jordan Balazovic to arrive. Then we should use Dobnak, Thorpe and Smelzler as trade bait once they have another year of seasoning in the majors. In fact, I would trade all three right now to Arizona for Ray if they would take the deal and then sign Walker and Wood. Berios, Odorizzi, Ray, Walker and Wood would be a pretty powerful starting group with Penida coming back and replacing Walker or Wood. Penida would also be insurance against either Walker or Wood getting injured or not returning to form.
  21. This is so obvious I can't believe the Twins aren't thinking it. Or are they.. Everyone says we have 3 starting pitchers spots filled but for the first 40 games we don't. With days off in our schedule I would assume we will need someone to take Pineda's place 6 or 7 starts. Why not have Graterol be a full time starter those first 7 games and then move to the pin. Assuming he pitches 6 innings per start that would be 42 innings. And assuming he could be good for 120 total innings particularly with most coming from shorter stints Graterol would have 78 innings left. Enough for late inning bullpen stints and enough left for the play offs. =SA=
  22. I've always thought Buxton's swing was too long. With his speed it's more important making contact and getting on base than trying to hit for power. I'd love to see him use a heavier, thicker bat and make a shorter, more compact swing. The heavier bat would help keep him from swinging in front of the plate. The goal should be better contact and more line drives as well a fewer strikeouts.
  23. Rook has plenty of time to work on his swing as I see him as the perfect replacement for Cruz in 2021 ... One thing a designated hitter has to have is power, and he has that going for him .. In fact, the lack of homeruns have held the Twins back for decades. Just watch how many more runs we score and how much more exciting the games will be this year. I cut my teeth on Killebrew and Allison. Nothing like a big tator ...
  24. Making a blockbuster trade comes with great risk. With bold trades comes high expectations. The kind that cost GM's their jobs when they don't work. When you go into a sesonn with less than a 100 million payroll the expectations are much lower. A 500 season is acceptable. That said, I'm not exactly blaming the Twins for not making a big splash as even with a big splash they need to be on the right side of the trade. Nobody is going to risk their necks for a bad blockbuster trade. It may be that the right oe hasn't presented itself yet ..
