  1. Not just Twins' followers have stopped watching. MLB is in big trouble with the pitching dominance and all of the strikeouts and long low scoring games. Twins are actually 9th in team batting average but what difference does that make? Evidently none. Hard to believe they actually trail Detroit in the standings. Berrios and pray for rain. Tonight its Happ with his 5+ era which just won't cut it the way the game is today. Nothing to suggest that the Twins will not continue to hover around the .400 mark for the rest of the year. They are off of the pot.
  2. I can't (well maybe I can ) believe that 2 errors opened the gates for the Yankees and it seems that in some games Baldelli keeps running pitchers out there until he finally finds one that fails. Every game from now on, this team is hanging on the precipice and on the verge of falling off. Tonight is must win. Where is Pedro Ramos?
  3. Ok..you averted total disaster after losing the Os series and dropping a 14-5 mess to the Royals by salvaging a split in that series. Now 6 at home starting with 3 with a slumping team from New York that has their own problems. So are you going to let those Yankee uniforms scare you to death again or are you going to actually win a series and maybe even win the entire home stand? Just asking.
  4. I think a fair question to ask the decision makers in the Minnesota Twins organization is; "What was your goal for the 2021 season?" PR goals stated to the press don't count. For their sake, I bet the behind the scenes goal was simply to field a respectable team but not a serious "deep into playoffs" team. It almost seems like they are hoping that 2 AL Central titles merit a honeymoon season in which they can give the younger players enough playing time to see what they really have down the road. It is obvious that Sano and Buxton are not the mainstays they hoped they would be and free agency acquisitions and trades are a crap shoot. So who will form the core of the team in 2022 and beyond? I hope this season provides some answers.
  5. Pretty hard to get the work in when they have had about 1 day off in the past month and a half. The lineup is the problem. The talent level has been decimated since the '19 season and that is all on the bean counters and suit and tie (excuse me golf attire) clowns in the non playing jobs. They have assembled a cast of no names , and underachievers. Berrios is the sole player on the roster who puts the Twins in the "should win" category and that is every 5 games.
  6. Partial from Dodecahedron......"We all know this Twins team has ample talent to hold its own in the MLB, yet they are not stepping up......" And this talent is comprised of exactly which players? I watched most of the entire Os series because I get MASN in my market which carries the Os. The only established upper tier MLB player on the roster is Donaldson and he is still in the journeyman category who plays MLB level defense (as long as the shift isn't on) and has power( POTENTIAL). Name one other playoff winning talent on the entire roster. Polanco? Sano? Street clothes Buxton? (I am stealing Charles Barkley's perfect term for Anthony Davis with the Lakers who basically stays injured. So Street clothes Buxton it is). I am waiting. I bet less than 1% of Twins' fans could name last nights starting roster. By the way, Sano's grace period is over. Last nights ph appearance was pathetic to put it mildly.
  7. Any way they can play more than 2 more games against Baltimore? Problem is they have beaten Os 16 straight and something has to give in the next 2. Then the fun really starts against KC and Yankees. Almost every game now is make or break. Hate to say it but Berrios did look like trade bait yesterday. 8 great innings and Rogers gets the win.
  8. It is very possible that Rocco pays more attention to analytics than he does to fundamentals. Berrios could have cost himself the game last night when he went for the spectacular double play and threw a 90 mph slider to Simmons who was charged with the error. Take the sure easy out in that situation every time. My main issue with the bull pen is they keep running Colome out there in game situations when my guess is that he is ineffective about 2/3 of the time. By the way, my main issue with analytics is that sports is not chess. Chess is pure strategy and tactics. In sports you are dealing with unpredictable human performance not chess pieces. Execution trumps strategy every time in sports.
  9. I don't know what I was thinking when I suggested .250 as a goal for Sano's ba. No question, with all of the strikeouts MLB wide, averages are way down and the Mendoza line needs to be lowered by about 50 points. Jim Palmer made the comment in last night's game that the league wide batting average relative to balls put in play is .300. So if a player is up 10 times and puts the ball in play all 10 times he should get 3 hits on average. if they strike out 5 times out of the 10, there's your .150. So the goal for Sano as was stated should simply be to lower his strikeouts. One way would be to not swing the way he did on an off speed pitch last night with 2 strikes. I think his shoes are still next to home plate.
  10. I have been negative Sano for most of his time with the Twins. However, this is such a pitcher dominated season so far, that getting runs on the board somehow, some way is at a premium. He at least deserves a temporary grace period after big contribution to 3 must wins. Now that they have won a series and run totals are creeping up I hope he can at least give opponents some concern and get the average up to close to the .250 mark by All Star break. If not, this should probably be his last with the Twins.
  11. After saying that Sano should be on a short leash and was "toast", he is solely responsible offensively for the last 3 Twins victories. Were it not for him, they would be on a long double digit losing streak. Not that it means he is over the hump so to speak but give credit where credit is due. In the year of the no hitter, maybe a .150 batting average with a few game winning home runs is ok.
  12. How would you like to pitch for a team that can't hit and can't play defense? This team has rapidly gone from reigning Central champs, to mediocre to disaster to embarrassment. Pitchers have just thrown in the towel knowing there is no margin for error. The roster seems to have no resemblance to recent teams and every move the relatively new regime makes seems to backfire. Only salvation is that mediocrity seems to be the norm in MLB so far this season but any type of winning streak for this Twins team appears to be out of the question. Twins will rely on the 60-60-42 rule this season and will probably squeak out the 60 wins but could lose all 42 of the difference makers.
  13. I don't know about hitting coaches but did the Twins really hire Baffert, the horse trainer, as a consultant or was that a one month plus late April Fools joke? Old horse racing joke....I bet on a great horse; it took 10 horses to beat it. Now, Twins are a great team; it takes 29 teams to beat them.
  14. Per Dodecahedron..." If you think a .525 winning percentage wins this division, it's simple to calculate how many games the Twins are actually behind. (It's 5, if that's the estimate). If you think the division champion will have a .545 finish, well, then the Twins are 5.5 games behind pace. I think .545 is a reasonable if not worst case, and .525 is possible if not likely. And heck, the difference between the two is just half a game at this point in the season. The Twins can make this up for sure. Will they make it up? Not without a lot changes, in my opinion, but it's far from impossible....." To reach the possible but not likely .525 Twins would have to go about 72-56 over the remaining 128 games. Not no way not no how.
  15. looking at the lineups the Twins have been running out there and the continuous shuffling of the bull pen I think 75 wins might be a very optimistic forecast. Now Polanco is the hot hitter. What does that tell you? Baldelli's refusal to allow a starter to go more than 6 innings regardless of his performance is truly perplexing. What is he doing, saving then for the Yankees in the playoffs?
  16. Don't forget the 7 inning rule for double headers which compounds the runner on second rule since that now effectively goes into effect in the 8th inning of those games. What does that do? It gives teams that have weaker bullpens and less bench depth a huge break. What parity exists is because no one is knocking the cover off the ball.
  17. So much for the "Trade Buxton" thread. Anyone could see this coming. I didn't think it would be so soon. Buxton is simply too fragile for his style of play. If he did continue his offensive performance (doubtful) he should be moved to left or right field to try to eliminate the extra dangers in center.
  18. Why all the discussion about pitching when the problem is clearly not pitching? Anyone notice Buxton hobbling down to first in his last ab yesterday? Sano 0-5? AAraez (sp) clearly turning out to not be MLB caliber? Basically a AAA lineup in the AL Central. Pitching is the strength of this team. They had best win the upcoming Tigers series.
  19. So 28 games into the season and Buxton is playing out of his mind. That is the known. The unknown is in the next 134 games. I predict Buxton will play about 100 of those games, if that many, and will finish about .270/25 home runs. Truly is amazing that the discussion now is to go into another rebuild mode after 1 good season (again, 2020 doesn't count) and tanking in the playoffs as usual. Re visit all of this after the next 50 games or so. Until the last 28 games Buxton has been an overall pain in the backside and he has far to go to prove himself as a day to day reliable player instead of a player who can sit out over a headache at any time. Don't forget Cruze will be gone as well and Sano is toast.
  20. Good to see them win a 6-5 game. That is the scoring range that has been missing so far this year.
  21. Offense is general and balls put in play in particular are a recognized major problem in today's MLB. You don't need a spread sheet to figure that out. All you need to do is watch a few innings of practically any game. A recent article mentioned that this so far compares with 1968 after which they lowered the height of the pitchers' mound to give hitters a better chance. Twins will not finish the season with a .385 winning percentage. They are a middle of the pack team that should win around 75 games. The real problem is baseball in general and overall more and more Who Cares? Watching these games can literally be brutal.
  22. Other than his continuing to run Colomo (sp) out there in key situations and not allowing starters to even go the distance in a Little League game, on what basis would he be fired? This roster is proving to be a hodge podge at best. Even though they don't hit very well, neither do they have team speed or play great defense and the pitching is proving to be very vanilla. Baldelli should draw names out of a hat for the lineup and just sit back and watch. Whoever decided that no serious off season moves needed to be made and that this collection could actually compete for another CD title, is the one that should be fired.
  23. It doesn't matter who plays for the Minnesota Twins this season. They are an average team at best and have to play at 100% to be average. Luckily, there are no great teams any more and at 6-11 only 4 games out of first. If I was Rocco, I would throw darts at the roster and that's my lineup. By the way, Rocco, stop managing and just let 'em play. Just watch the flow of the game and stop reading analytics spreadsheets.
  24. No runs is bad news. Doubleheader shutout sweep. Doesn't get any worse than that. Sano line is .100 putting Mendoza to shame. It really does seem like this is just a very poor hitting team with no end in sight. One possible saving grace is that pitching does seem to dominate league wide and most games are low scoring. One minor league even considering moving the mound back 1.5 feet to give hitters a better chance. When a team relies on home runs for most of its scoring and doesn't hit home runs........
  25. First Twins - Angels game was supposed to be on FS1 but guess what? Just not playing at all takes care of any scheduling problem. Especially with Buxton injured (imagine that) and Sano hitting .130 last time I checked. This will be the most uninteresting Twins season in many years anyway. 10,000 would be a normal crowd.
