  1. 5 game sweep on the road. Unheard of. So thank goodness Rodgers blew the save and took a L yesterday.
  2. 21..That is the number of consecutive games in August against 3 teams; Pirates, Royals and Brewers. Jim Brosnan needs to write a new book if he is still alive. Title; "The Short Season".
  3. At least the rowdy Yankee Stadium crowd won't be a factor unless they simulate that.
  4. Two things are already obvious about this patchwork simulation of a MLB season. The regular season is already a fiasco with numerous virus (not weather) postponements, players sitting out the season and schedules determined by a disease, not actual competition. The other thing already obvious is that the Twins and Yankees will both be in the reconstructed playoffs unless the disease ends the season in the same way that it started the season. So one constant will remain from Twins of recent years, even decades. The New York Yankees are lurking and until that meeting happens, nothing else matters.
  5. ".......Polanco seems to be playing defense more smoothly, consistently, and confidently with Donaldson on his side...." That is a great point and I hope it gets the monkey off his back that he is not a good defensive shortstop. When you score double digit runs you should almost always win but its the 3-0 pitching/defense games that win championships or at least division titles and playoff series.
  6. Whoever it is and whatever announcers for whatever network or team, I wish they wouldn't feel like they have to make continuous chatter no matter how irrelevant or nonsensical. Today's so called communications experts seem to think that any silence is like the plague. Sometimes they get so wrapped up in what they think are stories for the ages that they actually ignore the action on the field. Just call the game and don't feel like every pitch has to be analyzed or some topic explored having nothing to do with the game simply to make noise.
  7. No such thing as a regular roster anyway. I do hope that Sano plays all 60 games with no relief at first base. What are the chances of that happening? Great time to see how serious he really is about a long career.
  8. I think they would rather win the back yard Wiffle Ball game than one of these 60 TV exhibition games. The "standings" will show a bunch of .500 +/- teams and resemble Grapefruit lineups for the most part. Maybe even some split squad games if they fall behind in the schedule.
  9. Arraez should definitely hit lead off this year in the 60 practice games he will have to get used to hitting lead off. Does anyone really care where their team finishes in the standings this year? I mean really? I am sure that the players have been coached repeatedly on what to say when asked if these games really mean anything to them. If you caught most of them in an off the record situation like at the next stool having a cold one (not) you would get the truth.Noise from video games in the stadiums? Blue Jays just trying to find a place to play? Go Twins.
  10. Now in one of the scrimmages ahead of the real spring training games, Buxton sprains a foot just "tracking" a fly ball. No need to worry about walls evidently. Between Sano's inability to avoid issue after issue and Buxton being another injury waiting to happen, Twins need to use these games to plan for a future without either one of these 2.
  11. As will, as I posted earlier but what the..... , Rocco Baldelli's job after the MOY award. He could go 0-60 or 0 and whatever and not be fired.
  12. Dominating those 1963 Senators was no small feat so I am surprised that Siebler didn't get more opportunities. The insight to how he was treated by Griffith in the pre Curt Flood era I guess was typical of pre free agent baseball.
  13. Listened to the whole thing right away and enjoyed every minute. Checked a box score I had from Aug. 1, 1963 doubleheader between the Senators and Twins in Washington. Low and behold it was the game Siebler talked about in the interview which was his first start in the majors after his less than great relief appearance 2 days earlier. Line was 9ip, 3hits, 1 run 2bb, 4ks. Allen, Hall Killebrew and Versailles homered. Twins won 10-1 and Siebler had 5 plate appearances with 1 hit,1 run and 1rbi. Quite a first start. Twins won game 1 14-1 so I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. I was 16 at the time.
  14. Zero interest or zero on the IL? If you really think 0 on the IL, I would respectfully disagree. More like several on every team.
  15. Thank you. I tried to explain that before I began my admitted rant. More and more it appears that essentially a glorified exhibition season is what we are about to witness (or not). The whole purpose is to get some games on TV come haides or high water. I hope the Twins use it to their advantage and not be concerned about where they finish in the 2020 standings. At least no way Rocco will be fired the year after his MOY award. It will be interesting to see how many players go on the IL for "unspecified illness" since they can't even say that it is the virus.
  16. Well the bottom line is this and there is no way not to get off topic a little because the underlying cause of all of this can't be ignored. In my opinion, that cause is the total lack of common sense displayed by the so called geniuses that run things; in this case government and health care. First they destroy the economy supposedly to protect hospitals which exist to deal with viruses among many other things. Then after the economy has been sufficiently destroyed they open things back up to a degree, including MLB, with all kinds of strings attached. Then they act shocked that there are more cases when absolutely nothing has been done about the virus itself. We are at the mercy of educated idiots compounded by so called professional athletes who whine and complain that they have to play a few games for a paltry multi 6 figures or more in many cases while 60mil Americans are out of work. Good luck.
  17. It will probably count but it won't count. For one thing, how many times do you think the A lineups of the teams will start in this now 60 game season? How many key rotation pitchers will be on a strict pitch count? How many players will mysteriously test "positive" during this 60 game exhibition series? The Tigers will probably win it all. Go Ron (I hate second place) Gardenhire.
  18. No matter what kind of patch work 2020 season MLB comes up with, if anything at this point, it will amount to no more than a glorified pre spring training for the 2021 season and will be totally irrelevant in the scheme of things. I just hope that by late Feb. 2021 they can pick up where they left off in March 2020. If the pandemic madness is not over by then, just forget organized sports at all levels for the foreseeable future. Roman Coliseums are now scattered all over the country.
  19. So lets get this straight. Someone allegedly assaults Sano's brother and then wants to blackmail Sano after he has committed the assault? So apart from everything else, the story makes no logical sense. At least this season it makes no difference whether Sano can play or not. Most games will be played like exhibitions anyway if there are any games.
  20. Well that is exactly what MLB top to bottom is acting like; a bunch of kids packing up their toys and going home. Maybe that is the answer, let the real kids run the whole show and ban the adults who are acting like kids. Anyone over the age of 18 is banned from the game for 2 years.
  21. I've had it with these whiny players who are more concerned with getting their "fair share" than getting paid plenty to play a game. You would think that they would be happy to simply get back on the field because they are ball players first and foremost but instead, yes, its only about the money. I absolutely could not care less about any baseball this year, or next for that matter. I'm surprised they didn't complain about not getting a stimulus check. The virus should not have any effect on future attendance. No one should show up regardless. So updated answers to 2 other threads....Would you attend a game? NO. Is it really about the money? Obviously YES and ONLY YES. Baseball is finished thanks to the players union who must think they are steel workers.
  22. I would hope that there would be a bunch of folks with your approach to going so that I could just roam the stadium at will and grab a cold brewski without waiting. Maybe check the scoreboard every now and then.
  23. If it was an 80deg beautiful day and the ticket prices reflected the current situation and concessions were reasonably available, I would go to a game for the same reason that people go to Grapefruit League games. I would not go expecting anything of significance to happen. The season is now an exhibition season and the W-L record means nothing.
  24. Don't know the year exactly but I was listening to an Os - Twins game on the Baltimore radio station when I still lived in Northern VA. Chuck Thompson was the Os play by play guy (who did a fantastic job by the way). Hrbek was at the plate and the call went something like this. "Hrbek swings ...that ball is out of here." The ball was in the right field bleachers before Thompson could get the words out of his mouth. Having been to old Memorial Stadium several times, I could easily picture a laser shot into those bleachers. I would bet that Hrbek would say that was the sweetest contact he ever made.
  25. The only analytic I care about is 101 victories. I am very suspicious that analytics had anything to do with the Twins setting a MLB 4bagger record in the process of winning 101 games. Earl Weaver was the big proponent of the 3 run homer combined with good pitching and he probably couldn't spell analytics. Maybe Falvine read Weaver's book. Analytics just gives a bunch of geeks jobs in sports who probably would buy a right handed glove if they were right handed. How many analysts were laid off during the pandemic? Show me a team that meets the eye test and show me a team that meets the spreadsheet test. I'll take the team that meets the eye test every time.
