  1. per old nurse "2 years managing, 2 division titles. One bad week and Baldelli is an idiot." Last year means nothing. Repeat; last year means nothing. 2019 the Twins went on a home run rampage that had nothing to do with managing and will never be repeated by this team. Donaldson pulls a ham string in game one so I guess he should have been rested in game 1. MOY jinx now in effect. Its a long season anyway but this will be a real long season for this team. No breaks or "should win" games any time soon. Seems like most every team is improved except one.
  2. What about riot gear and hand warmers? What a home field advantage. Please cover the place.
  3. Only the Nationals in either league have won less than 3 games and no one in AL has won more than 6 games in this very young season but I bet that it continues this way into August and September. Twins are good enough to stay around the .500 mark all year but they are definitely not a powerhouse this year. Without Buxton's start the offense is anemic. Sano should be on a very short leash and I predict that this season will be his last as a MLB regular starting player. He is simply way too undisciplined and unreliable. Twins will continue to struggle offensively as they did in the Grapefruit League and hopefully the starting pitching will keep them at the .500 mark,
  4. Did they call an actual game yesterday? Can't find any reference to it on MTT..
  5. 2 days.
  6. A week from today the stats start to actually count again and the speculation will be over. I agree that as Azviking said, Cruz and Donaldson are really the only proven reliable hitters on the roster. The rest have been streaky at best and unreliable at worst. We will soon find out about the 2021 version.
  7. Makes perfect sense Covid or no Covid. Playing meaningless games and spending hours and hours riding buses or driving personal vehicles (for the privileged) makes little sense. Takes way too much time from the golf course.
  8. "The Twins were 5th in starter ERA last season so sure, okay." Nothing about the 2020 season stat wise is relevant. The schedules were so skewed that it is impossible to make any comparisons. An interesting thing to watch will be how much the supposed "deadened ball", according to MLB, impacts pitching and the adjustments, if any, that are made.
  9. As long as Gardenhire stays retired.
  10. Twins have won Central 2 years straight. What do we want? Seriously, as jud6312 posted, "Then there's the weather - not everyone enjoys the cold and - let's face it - the first and last months of the season here aren't always the nicest......" The fact that they couldn't "afford" an enclosed park is hard to fathom. Going to a Twins game should be a refuge from whatever mother nature has to offer, not a postponement. Target should be another echo chamber clear home field advantage. Check the home v away record since the 'Dome shut down. What does this have to do with free agent acquisitions? Probably more than you think.
  11. One thing about Wind Surge, no one could possibly be offended. I know a couple of local power company employees who would be very upset that a baseball team would be called Linemen. Come to think of it, Indians will soon be available.
  12. The Witchita Baseball Team.
  13. I know and they are really awful in bad weather. Most enjoyable game experience I have had was in the Metrodome. Great visibility and a party atmosphere and the Twins beat the Jays. The so called great modern old style ball parks are only great if you don't care about actually seeing the game unless you have the best seats. Worst seats I have ever had were at Camden Yards and PNC Park in Pittsburgh even though they looked great on the chart and were far from the cheapest. the reason they played the World Series in Texas was?.....fill in the blank.
  14. No and how many snow outs and 40deg games did they have to start the season in 2019?
  15. So now that its all over and all the flak I took for stating my opinion that this season was an asterisk laden good year to bow out early in the playoffs after 60 or so practice games, I ask....who cares that the LA Dodgers just won the 2020 World Series? And if you are a member of either the Rays or the Dodgers the real reaction is, "Its good to be home." The best thing about it was that game 6 may have been lost by a manager obsessed with analytics looking at a spreadsheet instead of watching his pitcher pitch.
  16. Only because they had to abandon any thought of a roof which should have been an absolute requirement. How many World Series games would have been snowed out to say nothing of April games? Starting the season with 10 consecutive road games will probably be the norm.
  17. Battle ur tail off postyed "You want to scapegoat someone on this team it comes down to 2 players and we all know who they are. Supposed to be the core of this team, yet neither have been more than complimentary players, hurt all the time, or go into prolonged slumps. If those 2 can't get it together over a full season or in the playoffs, this team will just flat out not be what it can be." And we all know who those 2 players are. Both have physical talent but are very unreliable and injury prone. I think its time that the Twins' brass starts making plans minus both. As far as Polanco is concerned, i agree that no fingers need be pointed at him. He is an adequate to good major league ss and that is all that should be expected. Bigger question is what the h happened to the number 1 pick in the entire MLB draft who also plays that position? I think Arreaz (sp?) is more of a concern than Polanco.
  18. Don't know if you call this doom or gloom but anyone notice the pitching in the playoffs post Twins exit? Braves v Dodgers featured one after another throwing 95+ fastballs up in the strike zone. None of this nibbling with breaking balls and off speed stuff which Twins pitching seems to be. Possibly the whole idea of the big contract starting pitching will be replaced by simply having as many young arms as a team can lay its hands on. Money will be spent on home run power and speed along with defense. May be just a short season playoff aberration but was very noticeable.
  19. Excuse me for my opinion. Whoever wins the 2020 World Series will celebrate at the Rangers park, go to the clubhouse, take their masks off, have some champagne, and head for home asap to join those who already have. The victory will be quickly lost in the annals of MLB history and the only talk will be for the prospects of 2021. If you want to say that Miguel Sano would rather be playing Tampa instead of at home in the DR, go ahead. Only his friends there know the real answer.
  20. Part of the doom part is that teams like Tampa, Oakland, and even those wascally Yankees keep coming up with players that no one ever heard of and remain very competitive. In the mean time the Twins seem to have number one picks that go no where or sign FAs that stay on the IL. That is why 2021 has to be a year of reckoning for this franchise. If a 2021 reload doesn't pan out, it will probably be another rebuild in 2022.
  21. I totally discount this year. Good year to get in some real game practice. 2021 is the unknown and not just for MLB. One thing 2020 has done is to marginalize sports at all levels. I am willing to bet that the Twins' players and staff are content to have this season over and get home to family and friends. The Yankees, Tampa, or Maybe Dodgers or Braves would have been lurking anyway.
  22. Result...18 game playoff losing streak. I think getting swept is the only way to accomplish that. It must be the uniform because they were totally different teams on both sides.
  23. Even though the winner of this year's World Series played in Texas will be officially crowned as such, the 2020 MLB season is actually a series of practice games to garner enough TV revenue for MLB to justify the huge bonanza it receives from the networks and other media sources. 2020 is a great season to bow out early and get ready for 2021. The 2021 season is what will really be interesting as there is no certainty that it will be "normal" either. Actually, the word "normal" should be deleted from the English language.
  24. Frustration and fandom go hand in hand. 32 teams, 1 World Series Champion speaks for itself. I honestly did not want the Twins to go all the way this year because the asterisk will be there whether it is visible or not. I did very much want them to at least get through the first round because, curse or not, that monkey will be on their collective backs whenever they do return to the playoffs. Losing is a lot easier than winning. Whenever the return is, they should hire the best sports psychologist they can find prior to the first playoff game. Meanwhile lets hope for a normal return to spring training and a 162 game schedule in 2021 with live fans in the stands.. I do think the Twins organization is making a sincere attempt to put a quality product on the field and that is all a fan can really ask. When it appears that attempt is not being made, frustration turns to aggravation and it can become difficult to be a fan.
  25. The irony is that all of a sudden pitching seems to be the strength of the team. The real quandary, in my unprofessional view, is will the real Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton please stand up? It seems that the entire regular lineup is either very unreliable or injury prone or both. Arraez maybe even has already seen his best days as a major league player. The Broom Stick can't be expected to last forever. All of a sudden a good young team has many question marks. I see no choice but to reload, play out 2021 with modest expectations and go from there.
