  1. Too bad Bartolo lost the perfect game, no hitter, shutout and even credit for the victory in the 8th but still pitched a great game that Rangers won. Always enjoy watching him pitch.
  2. ......looks like a great place for baseball. At least for the next 3 games. Sano could practice hitting Moon shots.
  3. How about Ron Gardenhire, 4-8 with his new team. A comfortable 67 points below what I used to call the Gardenhire line of .400. No danger of Tigers finishing in second place for the manager who once said "I hate second place" while with the Twins and did his best to make sure they didn't finish as high as second.
  4. I like Sano in spite of the Ks because every team needs a "presence" in the lineup and I think he makes everyone else a little better. Sano himself can only get better. I just hope he stays healthy. He might have a titanium rod in 1 leg but there is still a lot of stress on everything else. Supposedly his leg injury was caused by fouling off pitches and I hope that was the case.
  5. I bet the Twins are looking forward to some baseball weather.
  6. I will be happy if they finish April with anything over .500 winning %. Extrapolating the first 10 games into the whole season is a good elementary school math question but not much to do with a win-loss record. Way too may variables as we all know yesterday's game being a classic example. I'll take 90 wins any day and another shot at the Yankees in the playoffs.
  7. All I know is that wins and losses are all that matter now. As I said in another thread, the Twins' identity for 2018 will be established by the end of the month so lets just say they are 4-4 and need a win tonight to avoid a losing streak. Individual player's stats don't mean much yet but wins and losses do and a 7-5 home stand (minus the Seattle postponement so I'll take 6-5) is what needs to happen. Just go out and win tonight. Unless Cleveland breaks away the Central should remain with a bunch of teams right around .500 for most of the season so just hang in there.
  8. "One could argue that the Performa era was a kind of disappearance." The Peforma was the home/consumer version of the Mac as opposed to business/education. In those markets it was still the Macintosh. Joe Mauer is not a force in the Twins lineup. He rarely has an impact on whether or not they win or lose games. He is like Castro behind the plate in that he still is a pro who does his job but is not a difference maker. He leaves it up to others.
  9. Good perspective but totally depends on how the team does as a whole. On a winner Castro is a pro who does his job. On a loser Castro becomes part of the problem due to overall lack of hitting and slightly above average behind the plate. So as the team goes, so goes Castro.
  10. Santana is unpredictable at best even when he is healthy. His performance in last year's wild card speaks volumes about what is above the neck as well as what is below it. Learn to survive without him and then go on without him. I do wish him well but I don't want to see him in a big game for the Twins again. He is a classic pitch down in the strike zone pitcher and those guys are numbered. If you can't pitch high, you can't pitch.
  11. Great win yesterday. They did exactly what was needed in the first 5 on the road and did it after losing the first game. I think if they can win 7 of the 12 games on the home stand (very doable and not too much to ask) that will put them +3 heading to Tampa. I agree August and September are when its all settled but this team is still a work in progress. If they are to contend in September I think they need to be over the .500 mark headed into May and actually headed into the Yankees series. Other than Rodney giving up the game winner to Jones in Balt, the bull pen has been lights out so far. Nice to see sano 3-5. Go Twins!
  12. Cold weather or not the 2018 version of the Minnesota Twins should be well defined by the end of this month. They really need a win this evening to avoid a losing road trip to start the season. Then a 12 game home stand in weather that the Vikings would play in doors which is ironic. Maybe the Vikings stadium could be set up for baseball. When the Twins head for Tampa on the 20th to play in doors in 80 deg weather, we should have a sold idea as to what to expect for May-September.
  13. The Houston series in cold weather should be advantage Minnesota Twins. How about just going out and winning the games. Then no one will notice the weather. Should be a series sweep. Make sure that the heat doesn't work in the Houston dugout and point a fan towards the pitchers mound when Houston is in the field. Not as many drastic measures against Seattle.
  14. This horse has been kicked to oblivion but what you need when behind by 7 runs are base runners so from a pure baseball perspective the bunt made perfect sense. Its the shift mania that is the prblem and Castro should bunt every time. If not, why not?
  15. One thing about a 162 game schedule; and I remember Buck Showalter saying a couple of years ago, that you can't hide who you are as a team. The home run is a huge part of today's game as evidenced by last year when the Twins were over 200 but still only 9th. I just hope they continue to do well in that category solo or not because it is part of a winning formula.
  16. I'll take the 7 runs any way they can get them. Dozier hitting lead off and Mauer second doesn't help. Then Sano either Ks or goes yard so that leaves nothing for Rosario. Only 3 games in but if their biggest problem continues to be too many solo homers, look out Astros, Indians and Yankees.
  17. I knew the switch would not be turned on offensively and I know that Molitor is a weak link in the team and will cost them a minimum of 15 games. Tomorrow's game really is in the really need to win if not must win category. Because they need to get off to a decent start and the Pirates showed a lot of moxy today (Twins next opponent). (Same old Gardenhire btw as Tigers manager).
  18. Saw a prediction today that the Indians would win 110 games so I guess the Twins will win 111. They better get started today.
  19. Well here we go. This morning everyone is tied for 1st and tomorrow morning some will be one up and some will be one down and the season goes from there. Always get a kick out of those who say that spring training means nothing and when the season starts for real they are able to flip a switch and presto they are in mid season form. Then when they aren't, its well I am always a slow starter. I think Baltimore is a perfect place for the Twins to start the season. Its always a good bench mark team for the Twins to play and being on the road they can just relax and let the game come to them instead of being a hero for the home crowd. Should be a fun game to watch. Go Twins and start that winning frame of mind today.
  20. To me, this is a classic "lot of potential" team but also a lot of uncertainty. This team could definitely go up from last year but also could go the other way. I think Molitor's ability to keep the team fired up will be key and , so far, he hasn't been that type of manager. Tomorrow I will be looking for their attitude and determination as much as whether or not they win the game. I want to see some fire out of Molitor and I want to see some fire out of #7. This team has to start with a winning attitude and keep it for 162, and hopefully more, games. The 60-60-42 rule always works and its the team that plays every game like it is one of the 42 is the one that goes far. Go Twins.
  21. All I know is what happened the season after the last winning season they had. It is a long season , as the famous Jim Brosnan said, and I will be happy if they are in playoff contention when Sep 1 rolls around. 90 wins would be a nice goal but everything will have to go right for that to happen.
  22. Not just Buxton. Have you checked the spring stats? I hope there is a switch that can be flipped in 4 more days. Can't wait. At least Os network is on in my market. Glad to see you and Ewen (formerly Diehard3). Go Twins!
